22A
OK; approaching halftime and Stanley are 2-0 up. A few minutes before that second goal, Town had an attempt that the goalie missed \and a defender cleared off the line. Doing so, he kicked it forward straight into the 'keeper's hands. I expected the ref to still classify that as a back pass and award a free kick. Is it actually laid down in the rules that a goalie can handle a ball kicked forward to him? Davefevs
Was it a clearance or a genuine pass? If a pass then not allowed. Doesn’t have to be backwards.
italian dave
Not seen it, but about to post similar to @Davefevs. If you're clearing off the line it's about getting the ball away anywhere, not passing it to someone. Refs do seem to have become much more relaxed about the rule last few years though I feel (probably rightly so) and it has to be a very clear and obvious pass with intent nowadays. Meh
As said if he had time and passed intentionally to the keeper it is a back pass. Not seen incident but normally a player is not that calm on his own line so even if it trickles to the keeper a foot away it would be considered a block and not a pass.
