Are you trying to make a point there?

The word “person I disagree with” is racist in origin and was used against people who have Down’s Syndrome.

I wasn’t having a go at Kodjias Wrist as I know people use the word without realising what it means.

I guess my post should have had “Down’s Syndrome people”, apologies for missing out a word. There were bugger all insults in my post though.

No point really it’s just the word person I disagree with isn’t mutually exclusive to Down syndrome any more than idiot or imbecile! Words and meanings change!

The word person I disagree with is sort for mongrel as far as I was aware when I was kid (not that I used it)!

No offense meant but people get far to offended for everything these days!

Words do change, but "person I disagree with" has a very clear meaning.  Nobody here was offended by the use of the word, I was just pointing out the irony of a post about racism that used the word.

It's no biggie though, I can't be arsed to argue on this.

When I was involved in kids football it was always Southampton snapping up the best kids (Brian Tinnion was involved with them).

I always thought it was a crying shame, these kids who were half decent , getting picked up at ridiculously young ages and in many cases their parents encouraging it.

Let them play with their mates, if they really are good enough the clubs will get them when it matters.

He didn’t invent it he stole the idea and patented first.

He never spoke to his wife or mother on the phone ever. Any idea why without googling it?

Both his wife and mother were deaf, hence his interest in speech and hearing  - something I remember from my junior schooldays: I may be wrong - it was a long time ago - but I seem to recall that he refused to actually use the telephone.

One thing that has always intrigued/amused me is that we often say 'I'll give him a call, or a 'bell': isn't it a lovely coincidence that the name of the telephone's inventor is so closely aligned with his actual invention?

Alexander Graham Bell is not the only inventor to have his name incorporated in to everyday language: just think of Hoover and, of course, who could ever forget the famous English plumber, Thomas Crapper?

I can certainly see another season coming where we are fighting for promotion, they are battling against relegation, our crowds are going up, theirs falling and them boasting that they have the best fans in the world because they actually have nothing to boast about and never had.

Looking forward to it, but they are coming for us ?

From an HITC article by Peter O'Rourke ...

Bristol Rovers are reluctant to lose their star striker, but they could be forced to cash-in on Clarke-Harris for the right offer due to tight finances at the club.

Clarke-Harris is understood to have a buy-out in his contract and Bristol Rovers are bracing themselves for offers for the former Oldham and Rotherham forward

I actually wish SL would buy them via some third party then sell the ground to get the purchase price back and send them to Twerton "whilst projects are being explored"

Then **** off into the sunset.

If Rovers get a bid for Clarke Harris they should accept it without question. He had a good 4 months with them, scoring some amazing goals. Prior to that his scoring record in the lower leagues was poor. He could have become an amazing striker overnight or, more likely, the spell with Rovers was a flash in the pan

Apparently, due to holidays, they are short of programme sellers tomorrow for their big pre-season game against a 2nd string Birmingham;

"Due to holidays, work etc there are very few sellers tomorrow.

If you would like a programme or 50/50 and can't see any sellers outside the ground then you may wish to go to the SC sales point in the car park.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help out just for tomorrow then they can ask for Phil at the above location.

Thanks and apologies for any inconvenience."

Well it must be hard for the sixth richest club in England - members of their supporters club get caught nicking huge amounts of money, their season ticket holders have been caught passing their tickets back over a fence after they’ve got in thus depriving their beloved club of funds - they are a joke ...

Bristol Rovers are reluctant to lose their star striker, but they could be forced to cash-in on Clarke-Harris for any offer due to tight finances at the club, meaning that he must be sold prior the the first midweek home fixture, to release money for the electric meter to power the floodlights.

Clarke-Harris is understood to have a buy-out in his contract. When this figure becomes apparent it will be Bristol City’s fault and Bristol Rovers are bracing themselves for offers for the former Oldham and Rotherham forward, from bigger clubs, such as Forest Green Rovers, Salford & Newport County. It could be that the likes of Bury & Bolton use their superior financial muscle to tempt Rovers to part with their prized asset.

Clark-Harris himself is understood to be keen on a move away from the Memorial Stadium after realising that it was not just a camping trip.

Sounds like he could be on his way.

they have to brace themselves these days - mainly because the tightening of belts caused by an owner's empty wallet has caused those belts to snap

Oddly that's not the case though; they are spending a lot of money as that's how they lost £3m last year compared to Higgs' era £600k losses.

I think they will do pretty well in the league this year, maybe even promotion, but it will be a pyrrhic victory as was the case with Bury winning promotion because the club will be drowning in debt.

Football fans tend to have fairly short term views so expect the crowing cries of "coming to get you" as the slide into selling off the ground gains momentum.

Is Twerton Championship ready?

Twerton is soon to be undergoing an almost complete rebuild redevelopment. It’s what most clubs, the size of Bath City & better are doing nowadays.

Rovers hope to one day be able to keep pace with the likes of these illustrious neighbours, but until such time as that’s realistic - they can always hope to squat and/or steal.

They're playing Birmingham at 13.00 and I don't think they realise that Brum had a strong team out yesterday against Swindon and won 6-1.

Probably be Brum squad players today - watch the Pikeys go nuts if they win, they'll be championship ready in their eyes :laughcont:

Edit - just seen the Brum team, should be a competitive game.

It really doesn't.

I see they’ve finally managed to erect that ‘big’ screen to stop wayward shots flying into the nearby houses but it doesn’t seem to be switched on, missing a huge money-making marketing opportunity.

Perhaps they don’t have enough advertisers to make it worthwhile?

If we were being run without a plan or like a circus we would have gone under by now.

I'm ******* tired of the constant knocking of everything to do with Rovers.

If it's all that sh**, take a break from it. Spend some time with your family, go for a walk. Enjoy life.

It's not just preferring them to us, it's agreeing that they are the country's greatest fans. Like all irrational belief it is wholly without evidence.

Might be a bit longer, I can't imagine as many were locked out as usual, what with it being a pre season game.

Over on SAGalogical Chat (I must start posting more) I see that "PaulPirate" predicted a very healthy 5189 to come through the turnstiles today.

Actual number seems to be 2741.  Well Mr Paul Bloody Pirate, good luck on tonights Lotto.  (If you enter 8 or 9 numbers on your ticket, it gets scrapped, mind).
