Alcatraz Athletic are in the market for a new manager it seems. USA could be an option.

Reminds me of the following lyrics to one of my all-time favourite songs, mate.... Not 'alf!

Alcatraz is like a home sweet home
I'm so wanted and I'm never alone
San Quentin is the place to be
I'm so happy I don't wanna be free
So happy I don't wanna be free
So happy I don't wanna be free
So happy I don't wanna be free
Yeah

Hopefully it'll be like when Garner came back to the Mem after he went to Swindon, the meltdown at the end of the game was outstanding.

I'm sure there will be usual 'we've got our Rovers back', ignoring the woman beater they signed and the faithful to Joey mob giving them grief.

Never ever get tired of watching this. Comedy Gold at it's finest

I would not be surprised if they brought Hollowank back again, for a last "hurrah" ! 🙄

Out of work, so no compensation, "one of their own", "sag legend", annoying, embarrassing, tosser, bald, clown, full of shit, failure etc..

What could possibly go wrong ?

Just seen Wael's shortlist.

  • Josef Fritzl
  • Anjem Choudary
  • Kenneth Noye
  • Abu Hamza al-Masri
  • Mark Ashton

Ashton appears to be the only one that isn't currently incarcerated, so he must be the favourite.

But as Abu Hamza al-Masri (Captain Hook) already appears on their crest, my money is on him.

Josef Fritzl has previously specialised in the basement.

No he was definitely sacked. Very short statement too, only him gone…. suggests there’s been a bit blow up of sorts.

Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that today the club has relieved First Team Manager Joey Barton of his duties.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Joey for all his efforts and wish him well in the future.

In the interim, Andy Mangan will lead the team supported by Glenn Whelan, Danny Ventre and Anssi Jaakkola who will remain in post.

I just hope it ain’t Cotts (although would always want to see him in work….just not there!)

Working (and soon be living) in Colchester now, and apparently the he's quite high up on the wanted list there.

Know where I'd go if I had my choice...

There are numerous suggestions about who might be the next Rovers manager, but no suggestions as to where Joey might go. There can only be a few clubs that match his ability - Wormwood Srubs  Wanderers, Dartmoor Dashers, Broadmoor Bashers etc

Holloway Harriers?

How about Jaily Barton to QPR? Perhaps this is why he was trying to get sacked?

Ainsworth must be on his way out soon?

As far as the webtooed brigade is concerned, I hope they get someone in that will be another Gift that keeps on giving.

Less than a mile between them!!!

I had to dig down into the lower end of the football stories on the BBC sports page to find a mention of it. It seems not to be a story worthy of much attention.

Am I right in thinking he had surrounded himself with mates there? If so this could run on a bit yet.

To save money perhaps Rovers will wait for them to move on voluntarily, perhaps rejoining their leader when he gets a new job?

It will be interesting to see how their form goes. You would think it would naturally improve without him there but if the regime is essentially the same and the coaches don't see a future there, we could see a further slide.
