Another day and another embarrassing own goal by Rovers.

The new owners are very nice people but they don't seem to understand there is a limit to the number of  "faithful" who will put up with this kind of shambles and those "faithful" are an ageing group which is not large enough to sustain a football club above league 1 level.

There are rumours in the wind that the American financial services company TIAA will be financing the stadium build.

But with Rovers inadequate capitalisation and no attempt at a professional business strategy it can only be a matter of time before ownership reverts to the UWE .

More major developments...

http://www.fcbusiness.co.uk/news/article/newsitem=4563/title=arena+seating+transform+bristol+rovers%26%23039%3B+memorial+stadium

"The club took the decision to lower the control room at the cost of about £10,000 to the football club" How very extravagant!

"Arena Seating’s in-house CAD design and structural engineering teams combined to ensure the plans were fully approved by the clients and local licensing authorities before the South Stand was totally refurbished and given a 20% expanded capacity going from 850 to 1,056 seats. On the adjacent corner a smaller South West Stand was also installed by Arena, adding 360 seats and taking the ground’s capacity to 12,300." Feel sorry for the CAD guy who's studied his stuff and ended up designing a circus tent.

From the article linked

"Following consecutive promotions from Conference Premiership and League 2, the club was taken over by the Al Qadi family in February this year, and has since enjoyed an impressive third promotion into League 1. With the team performing well on the pitch the demand for tickets is up and the new owners have invested in upgrading the aging ground."

Third promotion, did I miss something?

Upgrading? I'd say Sidegrading, it'd be a downgrade but nothing's worse than the current mem.

Makes sense to me. Saves having to re-write the article at the end of the season, after they storm to the League one title, obviously.

How is that going by the way? Anyone seen the L1 table recently able to give a progress report?

Possibly good news, will be interesting to find the details out.

hmmm just saw they are a finance, investment, pension company for Teachers. Lot's of their funding and investment in educational linked investments - so did Wael find these people, or has UWE stepped in to save the day ?

Why would UWE want to fund this? They would never get their money back.

I think they are embarrassed with it - and rightly so, it is laughable.

They would have been better advised to just not turn up, it looks ragass, tin pot, and cobbled together on the cheap by someone working in the office.

You'd think they would have learned something from the Santas Grotto reaction.

Who the hell is running that outfit ? Whoever it is, he or she is doing a fantastic job and deserves a pay rise.

Not sure it looks like something cobbled together in the office, it looks more like something they outsourced to the local special needs infant school, which if they had, it would be a decent effort and good on them for involving the community.  But I really can't believe anyone running a professional football club would sanction such a amateur, childish effort, unless it was done by a child.

Aboslute gift, once again, how many more will they shower us with, the sags, the most generous club in the league.........

If it's true then the link would appear to be more through educational contacts than Jordanian ones.

Nicholas was told he'd have to put everything from the Mem sale into the stadium and that no debt could be attached to it. The UWE would clearly like a stadium on their campus but not one which risks damaging their prestige through the type of financial distress situation which is quite common in the football business. Imagine a dilapidated structure with weeds growing up through the tarmac and newspaper headlines with lurid details exposed as each cash crisis erupts and the owners issue pathetic appeals for help. So it is likely they would make sure any deal included a clause allowing them to take control if there was any likelihood of that happening.

How many train sets are there packed up in the loft because the kids lost interest and the parents wanted it out of sight and out of mind after all the money they had wasted on it ?

Well you will get a new home which is the important thing - I am sure the club will have something in place, ownership, long lease or something in place to make it worthwhile, and as you said I am sure UWE will have contingencies in place in the contract as well. How much footballing excitement can one city take - onwards and upwards
