Seems that the message from Mr Wright has got through to our players, Semenyo in particular.

Oh , for those who don’t know , his advice to Antoine was to get into the box as often as possible.

Thank you Ian Wright.

My cat listened too

I don’t know why this is mocked. Seems like an extremely sensible stat.

There are box entries and then again there are box entries. Merely endlessly wacking the ball into the penalty area will produce a lot of box entries, but not necessarily create chances. It the same as possession stats. It’s where you have the possession, and what you do with it, that counts

You're both right.

As the great majority of goals are scored from inside the box it is a perfectly sensible measure.

But as you say you also need to look at the quality. I recall Moyes at Man Utd bragging after one game that they got in a record number of crosses. It finished 0-0.

I don't understand why people mocked LJ either.  It's so easy to get into the box........Go down Bomb Alley, turn right into The Corridor of Uncertainty and then first left and the box is straight ahead

If only we had known it would all be that simple

Yes, perspective is everything.

I'd rather give credit to the youth set up we have who clearly are doing a great job day in, day out and Semenyo himself. Not sure Wright's suggestion 2 years ago is the reason Semenyo is starting to put away chances. Think the BP tried to credit him not so long ago but think it was just a slow media day.

Any decent strikers know that getting in box as often as possible is common sense………..:cool2:

Well yes, but the trend in football is for players to do more for the team, pressing and helping out in defence etc. Some strikers can do that to the detriment of their main role, especially if they are not getting on the ball, the team are not creating chances or if they are having a period of low confidence.

Sometimes you need reminding of the ******* obvious.
