If you think that, I suggest you don't know Bournemouth very well.  Christchurch and the New Forest coast are the Cosata Geriatrica. Bournemouth itself has a lower-than-average wage profile and some of the best paid jobs in the south-west outside Bristol.

If you avoid the horrors of Bournemouth pier beach and Boscombe, there are 21 miles of sand, with some lovely beaches at Hengistbury Head, Southbourne, Durley Chine and Sandbanks etc.

I do apologise for not being as accurate as you'd like, I was of course using Bournemouth as a general term for the whole area, how foolish of me. I see it's average age is 44, while in Bristol it is 32.4, depending on where you research the figures, the area as a whole having one of the highest average ages in the country. In recent years it's been overtaken by it's neighbour Portsmouth as the city with most retirement properties, but still ranks second in the amount of housing for retirees. I was using my memory of historical information about the area as a whole, where traditionally people from London retired to. I bow to your greater knowledge and will try harder in the future.

I think it’s a good town - good nightlife, decent shopping and lots of really nice areas closer towards the University campus and Sandbanks.

Bournemouth itself is only part of the wider East Dorset Conurbation, which includes Poole, Christchurch and other communities. As I pointed out, Bournemouth itself is a big student town, with many employers and more nightclubs than anywhere else in the south of England outside London.

I had always thought of Bournemouth as a "retirement community" but then I lived and worked there and realised that stereotype is completely wrong.

If you want to visit God's waiting room by the sea, I suggest you go to New Milton, where the high street is a riot of mobility scooter vendors, hearing aid shops and undertakers.

I think it's a different scenario to that with Webster TBH. He's young, he's just established himself and seems to be grounded & humble with a good family around him. I'd hope that he'd listen to advice but ultimately make a decision that was right for his career, not just a move to a "big team" now when that is not necessarily the best move in terms of his potential trajectory.

Also Webster was going straight into Brighton's side as 1st choice.  Not sure that would be the case with Semenyo.

New Milton sounds a ball. The area is generally known as Bournemouth, as in the conurbation, especially to people from outside the area. Do they have political spats between the different authorities like here?

That was what I find when I used to go to the Bournemouth area with work, it's such a sprawl. The list of places that are within the area of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is almost as big as those that make up London. Working out where one starts and another finishes is equally difficult too.

Almost 2 weeks on from his shin injury and he's been recommended to see a specialist, though unclear when this will happen.

With a continuing 'anxious wait' before the severity of the injury is known

All seems a bit slow,

May have been waiting to see if the injury settled. I had a long running shin issue which, as a last resort, eventually required minor surgery. Same leg I had a complete ACL reconstruction. It now looks like a grandmother’s patch work blanket.

I’d doubt that last bit, it is a Tory one party state.

All 8 MPs in Dorset & 14/16 in Hampshire are Conservative, the 2 Labour being in Southampton & Portsmouth.

Bournemouth/Xchurch used to be died in the wool Liberal .

Not sure that’s true.

Bournemouth has never had an MP that wasn’t Tory & Christchurch only had one that wasn’t for one term.

The whole concept of a unitary authority for Bournemouth-Poole-Christchurch is very divisive.

Bournemouth is generally quite affluent (apart from the Scouse ghetto in Boscombe/Pokesdown) whereas bits of Poole are fairly grotty and rough, and as mentioned Christchurch is the start of the Costa Geriatrica and quite genteel - apart from the vast Somerford estate.

Basically, all three constituent parts hate the other two!

I was a fisheries scientist in the area for ten years and the Dorset countryside is worthy of the Hardy novels that describe it

I like it down there, it has a lot going for it. It pains me the bile that AFC Bournemouth fans attract on Otib, although it is perfectly true to say the club's Russian owners bought their way to success and somehow evaded the EFL rulebook on FFP.  That isn't the fault of the fans however.

I thought I'd check in on my favorite 'where to live in Bournemouth thread and see what the latest is. Coincidently (and obviously I don't want to derail the thread here), but i heard there is a possibility Semenyo might be off, and Bournemouth might be one of the clubs interested.

Keep up!  It's about the merits of Budleigh Salterton now.
