That was a shame, thought Morocco deserved more- good technically, really gave it a strong go even accounting for France's comfort without the ball. Much better contest than Tuesday, had they scored in that little phase before HT when they hit the post, well who knows.

France arguably won twice, certainly in the quarter final despite not being the better side.

Always thought he was over-rated but you’re right, he’s been excellent in this World Cup

He was, but I still don't think he should be on the pitch. He was booked quite early against England then made a couple of challenges that a tougher ref would have considered bookings. Very lucky man.

Heard commentators last night saying that France were not at their best. Also read some posts on here saying the same thing after our quarter final defeat, and effectively criticising Southgate for not beating France when they were not at their best.

What about France not being at their best due to the performance of both England and Morocco?

Yes, France, with their experience at the sharp end of tournaments, seem to have the knack of getting the job done even when they are not dominating, but it always seems to denigrate the opposition when the suggestion is just that France underperformed, as though they all got out of bed the wrong side or were all feeling a bit under the weather.

Would love to have the opportunity to rebut those sort of comments. i.e How would you describe France at their best or When have seen France better than reaching consecutive World Cup Finals ?

Agree with both of these posts. Us, England and at times in 1st half Poland, at times in and half Denmark and admittedly a dead rubber Tunisia caused France trouble at times- especially their games vs us and Morocco where France were no better than, worse than the opposition.

I suppose one case for the defence might be, if France had a 3rd man in CM with say Giroud out this may give them more control- Kante, a front 3 of Mbappe-Griezmann-Dembele can be very dynamic and fluid. Possibly even Pogba who for his country and first time round at Juventus can be really good. Maybe when they beat Portugal in Portugal in a winner take a all in the Nations League in 2020 would have been a powerful, World Champion performance.

However that is also perhaps down to how Deschamps sets them up as able without the ball- I think they have players to be a more dominant side in terms of performance. It's very effective right now of course.

However yes it does seem like sucking up to the favourites on the part of the commentators.

In the last World Cup I thought they got a bit lucky in the final, a questionable penalty not long after Croatia equalised- and indeed some fortune in the 4-3 v Argentina in 2nd Round.

I see that Infanto has said that this is the best WC ever.

It seems to have been very well organised and run, with some shock results and exciting games - especially in the last set of group games and during the knock out stages.

However, does all of this overide the morality of it being awarded to Qatar in the first place. In particular, that it necessitated the change from summer to winter - contrary to the basis on which the tournament was awarded?

Looks like a bug is going through the French team at least 3 players are so far doubtful for the game Sunday but there is talk of Benzema making a surprise comeback.

Here’s a question to us all, if he makes the squad, how do we think all the others will feel about him playing? I guess he helped them qualify for the World Cup, but not played in this World Cup and now suddenly he could be fit for the final

I do remember similar claims after 2018 world cup with it being said it was the best ever. I think World Cup's are probably best to be judged some time after they've taken place to really say how good it was.

Of course Infantino would say that though, whilst he's fifa president.

I suppose there are certain players that the manager will pick if he at all can, Benzema probably falls into that category, it must be a little annoying especially the player he might replace but it does go on all the time even we have done it at city, but yes I think it can cause a bit of disquiet amongst the rest of the team.

I must admit their proposal to increase the number of teams to 48 just smacks of commercialism, 16 groups of three with the top two going through, I mean come on.
