Port Said Red Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I was thinking this before, but watching those Sky focus videos brought it to the front of my mind. He is a talented player, he is two footed and yet he never takes a direct free kick. If he had that extra string to his bow, he would be even more sought after. If you are a team like Southampton for example, and you know that Ward-Prowse is on the move one day, you would want to replace that part of his game as much as anything else. Is it that it's not in his skill set, is it that senior players pull rank, or is the clubs feeling that a free kick routine is more effective? I would have thought that the lack of penalty decisions might not be so annoying, if we had a direct threat between 18-25 yards out. Quote
Davefevs Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 When he first came in he did take some around the box. I’d like to see him take more. Quote
1960maaan Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 When he first came into the side he seemed to take a lot of FKs, not necessarily direct as Nakhi takes priority. He took corners too , but that has dropped off. The quality of delivery definitely dropped for whatever reason. About time he started again, can deliver a good ball. EDIT: Beat me to it @Davefevs Quote
Mad Cyril Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Shhhh! If any refs read that, freekicks will join penalties on the "not to be awarded to Bristol City" directive.... Quote
Offside Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I’d like to see him take more too. Matty James’ set piece delivery was good when he first joined us. The quality of our set pieces seems to have dropped. Quote
Robbored Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It always bewilders me that Nailsmith always takes corners - surety there are other players- Scott being one capable of delivering a decent corner. Nailsmith as a CB would surely be better utilised in the opposition box? Quote
nickolas Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Scott’s delivery in general is attrocious, thats why! 2 1 Quote

Nailsmith as a CB would surely be better utilised in the opposition box? It's because Naismith has the best delivery of anyone at the club. So he takes the inswinging corners from our right hand side and James takes them from the left. Apart from Atkinson, we have a team of midgets so unfortunately they are not our most potent attack. Even Atkinson you wouldn't say dominates the air for his height. Flint would have had about 20 goals every season from Naismith deliveries. 11 minutes ago, nickolas said: Scott’s delivery in general is attrocious, thats why! It's not going to get any better if he doesn't keep going. It's not like we're particularly dangerous from James deliveries who hits the front man 3/4 times. 1 Quote

I maintain that he’d be better trying to cause chaos in the opposition box than taking corners. Quote

Out of his pie crust Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I thought naismiths corners in the last game were pretty decent in terms of where he was landing them/pace on them Quote

cellist Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 at least a couple of Naismith deliveries lead to goals early in the season iirc - away at Hull for one Quote
DaveInSA Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 have you seen the lad take a corner? my word. dreadful. but, free kicks aren't corners. so who knows...he needs to take some and then I guess we'll find out. Quote
marmite Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Our dead ball taking in general is poor, including throw ins. I think if we had a penalty we would play it back to Max! 1 Quote

Engvall’s Splinter Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 That first free kick from Naismith after about 2 minutes set the tone for the first half. Shocking !! 1 Quote
