A one off.

Not convinced - he's poor when confined to wide areas. Needs a role that allows him to roam a bit more to be at his best, imo.

In the current formation, we have others better suited to the role he played last night - Mark Sykes, basically. Sykes is nowhere near as talented a player but he sure is more effective in the current system. Somehow.

So our evolution under Pearson gathers pace. Some will get left behind.

He is a runner who likes to get in behind, that’s his strength….he isn’t creative, a good passer or someone who is a natural goalscorer (last season being the anomaly). Playing him against a side like Wigan who sit deep didn’t make much sense to me.

You're right about his strengths and weaknesses.

But yesterday's selection wasn't about that - it was about the fact that the starting 3 against Norwich had run their backsides off, so the Sports Science (Dave Rennie) said that - if we want to avoid avoidable injuries - it was better to give the Norwich starters a rest and go with fresh legs. It was a selection driven by science not tactics.

Yesterday was a draw not because we switched up the front 3 but because Wigan sat deep, kept their shape and didn't allow us to play to our strength as a counter attacking team - unlike Norwich who thought they were good enough to come here and do their thing, irrespective of the opposition.

The response was to his his poor crossing stats…which were a one off.
