We have not been brilliant but Sunderland are definitely there for the taking if we find some fluidity in the second half.

Solid half from us, restricted them and created a couple of chances ourselves AM really unlucky thought it was going in off the post.

Expect Sunderland to come out fired up.

Hope Atkinson hasn’t done long term damage it looked innocent enough but he was clearly in pain.

Mehmeti is a little wind up merchant, the type you’d hate on another team. One who can play too. We’ve needed something like that for a while.

Sunderland came into their own at the end of the half with Diallo and Clarke looking dangerous. City have been steady, with that standout move on 19, with Bell to Sykes who backheeled to Mehmeti,  who's curling shot well saved by Paterson and the follow up corner blocked. 

Atkinson looks to have twisted his knee after shepherding the ball out for a throw under pressure from Diallo.

As much as Kalas is an excellent defender, we have lost our passing game since Atkinson came off as both Kalas and Vyner seem more comfortable with the long balls, which dosnt suit our small front 3. Let’s hope Atkinson injury isn’t serious as having him and Naismith out at same time will effect our general play

Solid half. Defensively good, kept them pretty quiet and minimal chances.

We’ve had the best chance, Mehmeti very very unlucky, a super save.

Interesting front 3 - don’t know why he chose them and then we keep going long to big centre backs eating the ball up all day long. We need to get the ball down and play - but to be fair to Sunderland they’ve left very little space for us to work in.

Referee - very questionable half, some odd decisions - on the penalty, I’m saying on balance it’s probably a soft one - defender stood his ground, he can’t just disappear, so probably just right, but you’ve seen them given!!

Need to get some service to Bell, he could have the beating of the 2 CBs but unless we pass to him (or near) we won't know. 
Unlucky with the post again, and the Ref again, but I'd say slightly the better side and probably deserve to be ahead.
The Pen decision may possibly have been right, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's given against us.

we are defending well but that Atkinson injury hit( looks serious!) our Rhythm and Kalas's distrubtion isn't the same and we are missing Naismith's playmaking but very positive signs from Scott and Mehmet unlucky not to score. Bell had a lovely touch for the Mehmet chance but has had limited service, expect to see Wells on early 2nd half .

Positive performance so far: City played better for 35 minutes and had some good chances (unlucky Mehmeti!), strong end of half by Sunderland. Shame about Rob's injury (a bad one I fear) and no surprise for the umpteenth penalty not given - soft or not -  by another cheater.
