Sad news

We at Somerset County Cricket Club are devastated to hear about the death of young Somerset cricketer Barnaby Webber in Nottingham earlier today. Sending our wishes to Barnaby’s friends and family at this extremely difficult time

#WeAreSomerset

Nice mark of respect from Essex and Somerset cricket clubs before the start of play this morning

Lets face it we lost it within the first 20 overs of our first innings.  Can't dwell on it too much,

As you say the game was over ages ago. The second innings encouraged me a little though, wouldn't have been surprised at a total of around 100.

So, what with Craig O yesterday and the two Toms today, we shall no doubt be receiving a letter of apology from the umpires’ assessor - or does it not work like that in cricket?

In all seriousness, though, why were we even facing that last over?

A few balls before the end of the previous over, Tom K-C was adjusting his pads, and surely one of the two Toms could have changed their gloves, especially as we had already gone past the minimum over requirement.

Now we know that if the scores had been reversed it would have rained from lunch time on day three til the end of day 4!?

There was something inevitable about this match from the moment Essex won the toss. They would score a shed load of runs, we’d struggle under the pressure of those runs then we’d bowl and bat much better but the game would already be lost.

I think we’ve seen this pattern before a number of times but when we get a game where we start on the front foot then we’re easily capable of winning.

Fair play to Surrey, that’s an incredible run chase.
