Couple of points...

Looks a little washed out to start with>
I thought you couldn't have 2 different badges in a season , could be wrong.
I wonder if these kits are stop gaps and the badges will be sewn on later.

That said, I don't hate it.

That badge reminded me of G-Force from Battle of the Planets

Dreadful kit.

But more annoying is the fact the club have decided to change the front of shirt club badge with zero fan consultation. Thought we'd got past the club taking the piss like this. I can't imagine this would have happened under Richard Gould.

Ironically, the new football governance bill would likely prevent the club doing something like this, unless it had carried out a proper consultation with fans.

A useful reminder

How can a badge design be changed so randomly without consultation, this is really part of a club's identity and heritage.

Whilst everyone has an opinion, how did we go from 3 Hummel kits that looked modern, professional, attractive and cutting edge, to the amateur offerings we have now? Hummel is still in business, they are manufacturing. It was the UK distributor that went bust.

Hell, you can even buy our kit from them .... Home and away, all sizes.

So why on earth are we dealing with a new supplier mid-season when Hummel is still able to provide a solution?

The best kits generally these days are the ones that are very simple designs and can be worn casually. Going back to old style kits isn't really what I consider to be unoriginal anymore.

We try and be different all the time, but we're not. The new badge itself is just a copy of Brentford's and it still is absolutely shocking.

I am glad there is no Purple kit this season anyway.

I wonder if you’d actually get one if you ordered one?! If the club couldn’t get any more, I be surprised….tempted to try!

Its JL thinking hes got a cool bone in his body. Every kit/video is so ******* cliche and run of the mill shit any ******** with an iphone and computer could do.

The most stupid thing is if everyone loved this badge and it took off like JL thought it would anyone could use it and stick it on merch and City wouldnt be able to do a thing about it

Having a secondary logo is absolutely ******* pointless and this just reminds me of when we tried to put hashtags on our shirts for a year. Why do this club feel the need to try be different? It's unnecessary and honestly just looks shit.

A secondary logo is an American sports thing. No idea why JL feels like we need some Americanization at this club when it comes to something like kit. What is the point?

I guess that the club are trying to bring a casual feel to the third kit by not having the logo on it.

This video is from March 2019 when the Crest was redesigned. Some selected quotes are below.

On the reason for changing from the "City crest" to the crest we've used for the past 4 years “...to give something that was instantly recognisable and something that we could truly own as a club, something that children and younger fans could relate to more, and also just something that gives us that identity to take forward.” So why would you now relegate that "instantly recognisable" crest to the back of the shirt? If that crest is our identity why hide it back there? Why move it from it's normal proud position above the hearts of our players and fans?

On the importance and value of consultation “Back in early autumn [of 2018] we sent out a survey to the fans and we wanted to be really clear and upfront about what that was about…we had well over 3,000 responses and obviously the passion that came with that, because people knew what it was for and that really did help shape the design process and the thought process. Following that we set up a fan feedback group which covered various sections and demographics of the fanbase to make sure we could hone those answers and those responses…to make sure we had interpreted that correctly and had done the best process we could.”

On collaboration with fan representative groups “[in relation to the 1894 date]...we’ve collaborated with the supporters club and trust to make sure we’ve got our facts straight, so taking a collective effort.

So 4 years ago Jon Lansdown and the Club knew that they should consult, discuss, and plan a change to the Crest. But this time they've unilaterally replaced it - albeit on the third kit and with the official crest present on the nape of the neck - without so much as a notification to any of us. Why this change in attitude? Why the change in approach? Do they see a third kit as a plaything, a kit so meaningless that it can be the place for experimentation? If so then why not say that?

I've looked at all the tweets and articles released by the club around this new kit and not once is there an open acknowledgement that the crest has been moved and replaced with this Robin. No explanation of why it's been done, no reasoning, not even making it part of the announcement. What? Did they think we'd all just not notice?

This is complete amateur hour. I really hope this isn't a sign of post-Gould City.

To be fair, that logo was first used on kits designed under Gould. Used then as a secondary logo on the back of the third kit. Now promoted to the breast area where the Crest should be.

I'm sure it was 1st used in the season before the new badge was released? I'm sure it was either on some letters or on season tickets? Something like that.

Which one? The flying robin with wings spread or the stylised robin on the football?

I was talking about the flying robin with wings spread - which was trademarked in October 2022 - https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmowner/page/search?id=1759295&domain=1

The stylised Robin was trademarked in April 2019 just before the new crest was launched https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmowner/page/search?id=336069&domain=1

Fair enough, though it isn't difficult to work out who is really behind this. I suppose the Lansdowns have built up a high level of trust over the years amongst most supporters. But can you imagine if we'd been taken over by a Chinese investment group at the end of last year, and this "badgeless" kit was dropped? People would be in uproar!

The flying robin. I'm sure it appeared on some sort of literature before the robin badge was reveled which gave us a clue that we were returning to the robin.

I could be thinking of something else tho.

Surprised you can trademark a tracing of a stock image ?

If the IPO doesn't think its' too similar to other trademarks, and if no one protested or opposed it when it was published then I'm not surprised. There's only a small requirement for 'originality' in that a trademark cannot be too common and non-distinctive, and cannot be just a generic shape associated with your business. I guess the tracing has been stylised enough that it is deemed distinctive.

Are we trying to be a bit Man City and dump the badge off a kit?

The thing is, everyone says how terrible that Man City kit is....but at least you know it's Man City, cos it literally says it in huge letters!

Plus they still have their crest woven into the front of the kit...

Plus that's a training/leisure kit not a match kit. There's no regulation or rules on training kits.

There was another (!) Robin used on the season tickets. Kind of a side on landing view

Kind of like this. But without the other bird being attacked
