So did I, my Dad took me to Eastville before Bris rugby and City.

February 1950 on a miserable wet Saturday against Palace. I can't remember any goals but as we were sliding down the Muller Road mudbank ( before concrete terracing) all of the first half, Dad decided we'd had enough and left any half time.

That brings back good memories, I had a couple of games at Bristol Rugby in the early to mid 60's alongside John Pullin & David Mann before motor bikes & girls got priority.

I often wonder what if..........................................................:gaah:

I really can't see us losing Cam or TC (this season).

And I've been saying for ages that there is no EPL club that will pay what City are asking for Scott, he'll be here for another season imo, which is good for him and good for us.

Seems to me that the club are determined to hang onto our best players this season, hence the ott 25m price tag for Scott.

Just my very relaxed opinion :)

I was having a chat with @BS15red earlier. I can see Scotty signing for someone like West Ham but them leaving him here for a year. Win win for us, Scotty and them tbh.

What are Cam and TC's contract situations? Maybe we should add Zac to that too. All very important players.

@Davefevs one for you Sir?

I think a club like West Ham would need to have a 25m player hitting the ground running in their first team.

They won't pay 25m to risk serious injury to the player in the Championship imo.

Anyway, wrong thread - should be in the Alex Scott thread.

Agreed totally but we don't know if the comments supposedly made by Moyes are true. Very strange if they are.

To keep on point, spoke to a Forest supporting colleague tonight and he, begrudgingly, reckons Knight is the real deal and said we should be excited by his signing.

55 goals last season. Not enough in 46 games. We don’t have plenty of top six quality strikers. We have one

Our issue was goals from midfield and set pieces. Especially with Atkinson out, we had no substantial threat aerially.

Add in the luck with penalties up until seasons end and sheer lack of goals outside of our forwards - we should be aiming for around around 60 to make play-offs, so not far off.

For context - Luton almost conceded a third less than us last season. 39 vs our 56.

Time will tell if we have a strike force to get us into the play offs.  I don’t see it but it does split opinion.  I’d love to see three more come in. GK, MF and ST but don’t expect to sign 3 more.

@bpexile

Did you know David "Polly" Perkins?

Born on the same day in Southmead, we lived two hundred yards from each other. Both went to Charborough Rd infants and later on to BGS.  Great person even if he did follow the Gas.

Also Maitland Horler was ex BGS and a hooker for Bris United mostly.

I have a picture with the three of us as fairies in the school play Midsummer Night's Dream. A fairy hooker. Ha ha.

To be honest the names are familiar but it was 60 years ago now (I'm now mid 70's) & details are a bit thin in the brain. Names that do stick with me from my rugby days are Brian & John Gee (twins) & Tony Shardlow (good at most sports), I'm sure other names will come back in flashes but at the moment not many.

The joys of getting old eh

See that's the type of deal I don't want. If Scott goes I don't want a spot being taken by a him as a loanee because ultimately he's no longer part of the club. That's a whole season of games that could be used to develop one of our players for the future. That's actually one of the things I like about Pearson more than any other, he doesn't want to develop other teams players, he's much rather see us develop our own talent who won't go back to their own club.

Have you actually seen Conway and cornick, both physical forwards,

We do not need a striker, it's the position we have the most cover in, we actually have about 8 players who can play there in the squad,

Nah. They are the most physical players we have, but in comparison to the rest of the league they are not typical physical forwards.

We need, and want a specialist physical forward. Because believe it or not, in some games, the Championship is a really physical league. That's why we have an interest in signing a physical forward player.

I wonder how the club are using the Bristol Post (James Piercy).

Recently he seems to be reacting to news as it comes out, either rubbishing reports (Naismith, Fiorini) or confirming them (Knight, Roberts, Dickie).

Do City tell him in advance who we are after so he can confirm or deny once they are made public via other sources?

Defence will get you in to the playoff not strikers,

You can't defend then you will not go up, it's really that simple

No we really don't and who do you drop for this physical forward, bell Conway or Wells

Time will tell I guess. I think we have made the defending acquisitions that will improve us at that end of the pitch.  If we don’t sign a striker and improve the defence then I still don’t think we will make it, especially if Conway was to get a bad injury.  Give it 6 months and we will know who was correct if we don’t sign one!

It's sort of a non point though isn't it. Where is the money coming from to buy a 20+ striker? This Knight deal is going to take us upto our financial scope this season unless we get in some money this window. As we're only going to be playing one striker up front I'd like us to stick with Conway, Wells, SPH to fight for that position with Weimann, Bell and Cornick supplementing if needs be.

Wells without a doubt, we need something better than him if we want to make a serious challenge

I honestly don’t think we will bring in a “physical” striker….just for “some games”.  It’s not the way Nige builds squads.  If there is a striker “upgrade” out there then we are always looking to improve the squad, but we aren’t buying Milan Djuric to be plan b per se (imho).

If we are looking at a striker (and I suspect we are always looking - any recruitment team should always be on the look out) and they happen to be more physical, all well and good.  But it will be on the basis of improving us, not be a bench option.

I think Cornick is that option…he just happens to be able to play in other roles too.  Hopefully pre-season will get him used to our style.  He’s a naturally fit lad, but you can end up running inefficiently when you’re not in tune with the team.  Also if you time coming short wrong, you’re not balanced to hold off the defender and / or control the ball.  That is my expectation for him for the season coming.

Seen a few mentions on Twitter about the medical being on Thursday. Has that been reported or just guess work?

Some bloke who used to work for Huboo said so.  I guess that’s where it’s come from.

He might be right, but I’ll just wait and see.  My gut feel is it will be over the next two days.

More than fair comment Spike. I hadn't thought of it like that and am inclined to agree. ?

Yeah. Why on earth would you hang around with something like this? Get him in with the lads ASAP.

Personally I think we do need a big upgrade on Chris Martin. That might just be personal preference.

I can maybe, possibly see AW leaving in the not too distant future so that will free up a space.

I do remember Nige saying in an interview not too long ago that we would like a striker, however he noted to get better than what we have got, will cost money.
