Didn’t Bristol lose its county status during the time the county of Avon was created and then got it reinstated after that fiasco ended?

Don't think so, as far as I know it was a royal charter and has stood since it was given.

According to my mate Chad:

The County of Bristol is an area in the southwest of England that includes the city of Bristol and the surrounding suburbs and towns. It was originally a historic county, but in 1974 it was reconstituted as a local government area known as the County of Avon, which also included parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire.

However, in 1996, the County of Avon was abolished and Bristol became a unitary authority area, meaning that it has its own local government and is not part of any larger administrative area. Today, Bristol is a vibrant and culturally diverse city, known for its historic harbor, street art, music scene, and universities.
