downendcity
No not beating Southampton, but that they were awarded 2 penalties in the same game! Note that VAR was in use and a late Saints equaliser was disallowed by VAR fir offside. Oh that VAR could have looked at the challenge on Sykes last night!

How can VAR be used in one game and not another in the same competition? It should be at every game or none at all. 24 1 1
mozo
Good to see the underdogs doing well though. Been a while since we had to worry about the Codheads!

Just watched our match again and seen the inconsistency in Marriners decision making. Free kick just outside our box for a nothing foul and playing on after Sykes was wrestled to the ground just outside their area!
downendcity
Just saw that Burnley beat Fleetwood with a 99th minute winner & Fleetwood played 45 mins with 10 men
RoystonFoote'snephew
According to the commentary Grimsby created FA cup history tonight by becoming the first team to beat 5 teams from a higher level during their run. A tremendous effort by any standards.

Same old story they always favour prem clubs the linesman stand there like stooges afraid to give what they actually see and wait for the refs call . Ronnie Sinclair
Southampton deserving of all they get - replacing Hassenhüttl with Jones was borderline lunacy, and now they are paying the price.

I'll be honest and admit that the penalty on Sykes would have been soft (Roy Keane summed it up perfectly) but Dias clatters straight through Bell just outside the area in the 2nd half and Marriner gave nothing!

Oh Louie louie
That was one of the funniest Warnock moments when the sheff utd gooners game got replayed, shouting at his players to Steam into Adams and vieria,! Not a good ideal!

It doesn’t favour the home side it’s just fairer (usually) to both sides. As Southampton found out last night. We certainly wouldn’t moan that we’ve got goal line technology but Grimsby don’t, you just get any help that’s available.
Nugget
Hell of a run by Grimsby, you gotta feel that they must be a little gutted to not have one of the Manchester clubs, maybe they’ll get one in the semi’s then!

It was a clear foul but I blame the lino rather than the ref. Mariner was 25 yards away looking from an angle whereas the lino was little more than 10 yards away looking straight at the players. Another reason why they should be referred to as linos and not assistant referees. Running the line is all they're (un)fit for. petehinton
I was in the away end for Leeds Saints on Saturday, and I can genuinely say it’s in my top 3 worst games I’ve ever seen live. They both need a miracle to stay up. Saints looked a poor championship side with Bednerak and Lavia dropped into it.
Red from afar
Did Grimsby actually create any chances themselves? I thought our Stoke game was bad enough for hitting the self destruct button. Edited March 2, 2023 by Red from afar
cidercity1987
I think that is one for the cliche book of 'we need a lot of luck to win the game' Two pens, one for handball without a player nearby and the other for an off the ball incident. Miraculous.
