proof that MILWALL will never ever change their reputation

Recommended Posts

Thank fork they didn’t make the playoffs - the last two times Millwall have lost second tier playoff semifinals (Derby, 1994), Birmingham (2002) has seen some of the worst disorder in an around a football ground since the bad old days of the 70s and 80s.

And yes; I’m aware we are no angels on this front either, but we are nowhere near as bad as MFC.

Actually, can remember a lot of things to like about Millwall. Went midweek about 30 years ago- disaster game; we were 3-0 down after about 10 mins. Took my dad, who had just had an op and had to sit down, only it was standing only for City fans. The stewards were fantastic- got us both out into safe seating without any charge. Also went with an Arsenal mate in the late 80’s, to find all ticket and sold out. Steward quietly opened get and let us in, refusing payment, even though we were away fans. Yes, some real numpties, but a lot of passion and community, which I rather like.

This is the rub though isn't it? I spent some time working in docklands in the 90s, got a feeling for the history and identity of the area but that has nothing to do with throwing rocks endangering everyone on board. If City fans did the same I would feel the same.

I hope the police and MFC find the time to track down those captured on phone footage.

So glad they ballsed it up.

I can't think of one single thing to like about that club.

They are the other side of London and not the other side of Bristol?

Dreadful actions for which there is no excuse but if you are going to taunt Millwall fans with the West Ham anthem you have to be several sandwiches short of a picnic. Hope no one was hurt and the bricks didn't add to the numbers of holes in Blackburn, Lancashire.

Defo some Kangaroos in the top paddock for doing this.  Likewise I hope no one hurt because of a few morons on both sides.

I remember many years ago (50 ish), going to the City game v Millwall at the Gate via WEMS coach from Burnham-on-Sea. After the game, we were on the coach parked behind the East End. A Millwall coach was parked beside ours. One genius Millwall fan was about to sling a brick at our coach when he was stopped by his mate pointing out to him that as he was already on board their coach, the brick would have to break their window first……

Millwall are a real community club. Yeh got some idiots, but so has Bristol City. Passionate fans mostly and I like that. Not many happy clappers. Bristol City used to be similar club also years ago. Those that are too young, the old AG was also not a nice place to visit for away fans years ago.

All changed nowadays.

Not sure many grounds were great to visit in the 1970s or 1980s!

You talk of the past often, wider and City specific when do you think the tipping point was.

When CCTV was introduced

Similar timeframe to all seater then probably.

As for the topic in hand been to Millwall away albeit modern times. 2018 and 2019- One City win, one City loss. Some edge but not excessively so. Clearly they have a problematic minority but  they are not the only club, but I know or have known a few Millwall fans IRL and they seem or have seemed okay,  very small sample size mind you.

Football probably needed some drastic measures mid to late 1980s but aspects have gone waaay too far.

No alcohol still, all seater although some elements of Safe Standing are positive, ticket prices too high, commercialism too great.

Life bans/Banning orders, CCTV, Cost (football/beer was cheap years ago). Times have also changed. Probably changed for the best I know, but I did like the edge to going to the football back in the day.
The other point worth making, is that a football club was like a 2nd family to me as got to know know so many down AG (City was a real community club, as Millwall still are).
AG just feels different (sanitised) nowadays, but that’s progress I suppose..

I was in my local this week (one of their top pubs) and apparently they also got into it with one on their own players on Monday. Tyler Burey 22 year old winger (ironically linked to West Ham) came off the bench and didn't get stuck in then  made gestures to home fans who got on his back. Supposedly had his car with his mother in it attacked outside the ground too. Just search his name on Twitter to see the level of vitriol for him. Assume he'll be leaving them in the summer!

One way of looking at this (club) could be asking: If they did not exist would they be missed (other than by blokes that like "edge" when they go to football)?

If Millwall had never existed would English football and its history be diminished?

You could say that about the huge majority of clubs though.

Would anyone miss us?
