Apparently charging people to watch them in an "open training session" with Chelsea. League 2 Wrexham (after many attempts)!! $40 for some tickets..........

The sad thing is there will be very decent players going there and playing well below their level just to earn a quick buck. Ideal next destination for someone like Taylor Moore imo.

I don't see anything sad in a very old traditional club being rescued from decline, to be honest. If they want to progress and can afford better players to achieve it, they're only doing what any ambitious club would like to do.

And if Taylor Moore went there, he wouldn't be playing much below his level - a League One player in a team striving to reach League One.

Currently on holiday in Ibiza and there is a large family , 3 blokes and multiple sons, all decked out in Wrexham gear, round the pool singing their " we will never die" song arms aloft. Proper pisses me off.

What do you expect in Ibiza!

Another Wrexham thread ..just what is needed.

I seem to be in a minority but I prefer multiple threads that are more focussed on a particular story or event so I can instantly see if it's something I want to read.  (This one could be more specifically named if I was going to be pedantic).

These generic 'West Ham' or 'Wrexham' threads that get resurrected from ages ago are annoying.   I have to read 6 pages of some old story that lost my interest some time ago to find get to something new that may or may not be of interest now.  Sure, if two thread are started on the same story then merge them, but otherwise just leave them alone to bubble away on page one or disappear from view if they aren't of interest.

There are some stories about Rovers that I may finding of interest but I've given up now because I can't be arsed viewing thousands of pages of shite just because there may be something in there.

Is it some kind of authoritarian power trip by the mods?

It’s all about money with Americans. Films are not rated by how original, artistic, moving etc but how much they gross at the box office.

Artists , musicians the same thing.

Individuals are rated by how much they earn not how useful they may be to the society .

So why would Americans treat their football club differently. I am sure they are boasting to their entourage how much money the club will make not how many matches they won.

That is sad. I feel awful for those very decent players getting paid more, for all the unnecessary exposure non-league and now L2 will get, and for football in general that some people who wouldn't have otherwise cared are being tricked into watching and enjoying it. So sad.

Fair play to them I say

I don’t think it would be a bad bet to put money on them being yet another smaller club who reaches the prem before us

I think they'll be disco dancing past us just behind Ipswich and Salford City, an effortless saunter to the prem as we look on enviously with an oxygen mask on from mid table...

Again.

Apologies Geoff and the rest of you, I thought it was vaguely interesting in terms of the further commercialisation of the game when a League 2 club can charge $40 to hold a worthless open training session and is likely to attract one or two players who will drop down a couple of leagues just for the money (whatever excuse they come out with).

I'm distraught that I've managed to irritate so many of the Forum QA Police in one go......................do I lose my accreditation?

Shane they weren’t in the pool with their arms aloft.  It would have made “we will never die” even more ironic.

Can see any red dot on my android phone.  I am colourblind though! ?

The cookies ensure it takes me to the last post I read, but this could be pages old on the previous topic that been since added to.

Tbf I do think you have a good point, and this is in no way knocking the mods who do the job for free. I think stuff like the Rovers dustbin thread makes sense - it’s there and people know where to look.

What annoys me more is stuff like when someone starts a thread after a game about (say) Matty James and it gets merged with a thread discussing his performance from the prior week. Similarly, if (for example) we’d just announced a friendly and a post was made specifically for that game it getting merged immediately into a wider thread where it’s less likely to be seen.

Against that, when 15 threads start on the same thing on a matchday it’s only reasonable to merge.

Note that people tend to leave threads alone after a while even if new stuff is added as they think it’s an old discussion.

Again, totally not getting at the mods (it’s not a job I’d want) and a lot of this is personal preference but my general feeling is that the merging is a touch over zealous. I’d follow the following “rule of thumb”

- Things should not be merged if the original thread was more than x days old

- Things should not be merged when the subject is clearly different (or the title of original thread should change - eg if Scott signed a new deal, merge the thread we have but change the title)

- Things shouldn’t be merged in the first, say, two hours of posting (unless, again, it’s obvious - i.e 15 people starting a thread over a Scott new deal)

Theres never a perfect answer here and the forum is better than most, but I do think we go a bit too quickly on the merging here.

I put a poll up to get the Transfer Sub Forum created as that was one long thread at one stage.  Personally, I'd have 'The Other Lot' sub forum too.   It was all a bit egotistical at the time the single thread was created as some felt it was a bit pathetic that we had so many threads about them.  One massive thread is no less embarrassing if that the way you look at things.

I was being a bit provocative having a pop at the mods.  I wouldn't take it on and it's a thankless task, so I do appreciate what they do.  But if I was doing it I would definitely have a lighter touch (pure laziness) and let the threads have a bit more of their own life rather than merge.  Either than or we could just have a single 'Bristol City' thread!! ?

We may as well,  all threads on OTIB sooner or later get hijacked by Robbored and end with a slagging off of Gary Johnson or a hero worship of Danny Wilson. ?

Wrexham AFC will change the name of their stadium after striking a new sponsorship deal with US drinks company SToK Cold Brew Coffee.

The deal means the Racecourse Ground, which is the world's oldest international football stadium, will be known as SToK Racecourse, or SToK Cae Ras, from July 1.

Bless them. They have had a deserved huge slice of luck with Reynolds’s, who is a very decent businessman!

The bloke has marketed the shit out of them and the story has captured the imagination of many in the States

I heard on the radio the other day that Paul Mullen is the third most recognized European based footballer in the USA. Remarkable even if it’s not 100% accurate

Dislike everything about Wrexham at the minute. Used to moan about money clubs now revel in it whilst being far worse than all of those before them. Though I suppose in reality every club wants to be the money club.

It’s nice when things are going well but when things don’t go so well I wonder how they’ll react. As it is their owners can do no wrong but we’ll see.

I know you can hit the >> to get the last page, but that isn't necessarily the start of the latest posts in the thread.

The cookies will take me to the last post I have read, but I probably got bored with the previous topic in the thread and never got to the end of what has been posted previously.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a button that will take me to the latest post I might be interested in.  Which is exactly why separate threads on separate topics (regardless of the are for same player or club that has already been a topic) works best for me.

Yet you specifically said you cant be arsed to scroll through thousands of pages. Why not have a cursory read of the posts from the last few pages to see if there is anything of interest. One thread on Rovers is more than enough and easy to dip in and out of as it is only one thread.
