Preston North End home match thread

The defence are doing well, some great challenges and a lot of commitment but Preston are dominating this game for the most part, we really cannot keep hold of the ball and no matter how well the defence plays if we can't take the pressure off and get a hold of the ball we're going to concede.
We really need a goal against the run of play before Preston get one as I can see them running away with the game if they get the opener.

Don’t know what game you are watching mate … Preston dominating .. you’re having a laugh… two poor teams and we should be 1 up

Not entirely sure we should have expected them to come out of the traps firing on all cylinders.

We have been strong in defence...defended well at times.

Midfield constantly looks for the options to the left....Tanner always on space on the right but this avenue requires  Cornick to not be sucked more centrally to give him a decent option to pass to....currently Tanner has no option but to pass back.  The left is congested.. Bell is covered as soon as the ball is played to him.

Knight looking lively....good couple of turns and playing to Feet in thr final third (albeit once).

Need a decent play maker in the mid-field....not non-existent but non- effective at present.

Positives....Still 0-0 all to play for.

Dominating the midfield, probably worded poorly. We've definitely had the only chance and we're certainly growing into it now but the last 30 minutes it's mostly been Preston making good passing moves, they've just not produced anything due to solid defending.

In terms of the passing game we've been second best, in terms of creating chances we've had a few and they've had none. As long as the defence continues to perform as they have we'll get a clean sheet as they've been great but the attack has been very underwhelming and the one key chance was a very poor finish. Last season the difference between a win and a loss was the opposition finishing their chances well with us being wasteful, we need to take those key chances.

I'm no expert on Preston but I think they do tend to stifle teams and hope for a goal.

Not a great game, but hardly being dominated. Neither side really doing much. Pretty much 50/50 and would imagine possion is the same + we had best chances (admittedly that's not saying much).

Edit: slow typer! Just saw your response to @Not Banksy about word dominant. ??

That half really showed how important Scott is to the way we play.

There were multiple times where the front 3 were 20+ yards from anyone else, but in those times it's usually Scott who makes the runs breaking the press and getting us further up the pitch.

Don't think it's as bad as some on here are making out, but certainly needs to improve in the final third.

As you say. Both poor. Neither team with much more than 70% pass completion. Weak.

Those stats don't tell the full story very well. Most of our successful passes have been across the back line, Preston have spent more time passing with intent.
The attacking momentum tells a better story of what we've watched:

Those peaks don't show the fact that we've done better in the final third it does show that Preston have spent more time around our final third. The promising stat is that it's 0-0 and we've had the only real chance.
