Swansea City away match thread

Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing but thought that’s exactly what we’d do.

Naismith gives us a left footed CB, Tanner probably deserves to drop out, Williams played well v Norwich.

Up front Hobson’s choice after midweek.

Only comment is if we change our midfield almost certainly won’t be King coming on, but TGH or Naismith moving forward & Tanner or Dickie coming on.

Decent squad.

Tanner needed to be dropped so am relieved at that. I do like him but it does feel that he has been targeted a lot by the opposition in previous games.

Not a fan of having James, Williams and Knight in midfield together although what choice do we really have at present.

Don't rate Bell on the left at all, was youth level at best against Birmingham

Think only change if make would be Naismith into midfield in place of Williams, then Dickie at CB. But can see why you'd pick Williams instead, him and Naismith are quite different players really. Interested to see how they play.

Also interesting as we have TGH and Naismith both in defence, both of which are also comfortable in midfield.

Yep, pretty much as expected, though you have to feel for Dickie a bit: done little wrong, and he is comfortable with ball at feet and perfectly capable of playing out from the back, so it is arguably quite a tight call between him and Naismith.

Tanner I have a lot of time for and I think he will develop into a good Championship full back, but he's still young and he did have a very tough day at the office on Tuesday evening.

Mehmeti, by almost an universal consensus, was poor in midweek and, whilst technically skillful, has an awfully long way to go in terms of acquiring Champ level football intelligence. Unsurprisingly, currently low on confidence. Bell is also a  better finisher and more likely scorer.

So. all in all, given who's unavailable, hard to argue much with any of that. A good performance and some sort of result would give everybody a lift after what's been a rather deflating few days. If there is any good to come out of it, it is that expectations have undergone a realistic reset, whilst at the same time there has been a groundswell of positive sentiment towards Pearson, who previous critics are now at least prepared to cut some slack on the grounds that he's having to do the job with one hand tied behind his back. Maybe we can build on that.

So is TGH a midfielder or a right back? When we landed him in I was under the impression he was a right back but apparently he's meant to be a midfielder? Whatever Pearson brought him in to do I hope he's not just switched between the two positions, that's not going to get him consistent if one game he's a right back and the next he's in midfield.

Also, if he's a right back and he does well and we complete the signing what does that mean for McCrorie and Tanner? Will Tanner be back up and McCrorie goes into midfield? I mean I'm glad we have some players who are versatile but what ever happened to players specialising in one position?

Without being rude, there’s been enough written on here and discussed by people like Nige himself, to know that TGH can play multiple midfield roles and RB.  We have a small squad (smaller wage budget it appears!), versatility is very handy.

Why not just see how it plays out before foretelling the negative future, or alternatively foretell a positive future, where he’s not just Jack of all trades, but Master of them too.
