Jerseybean
50 years ago today Ray Cashley scored for City, with a long clearance from his own penalty area, against Hull City on a very gusty night. Were you there? 3
Homer Simpson
Bloody hell is it that long ago? I was there, if I remember rightly it chucked it down as well.
headhunter
Was there. Cashley kicking towards open end, wind behind him, Wealands stood on spot far, ball bounces in the D and it's a goal!!!
1960maaan
Haye this thread, I wasn't allowed to go as it was a school night. I was really pissed off reading the EP the next night.

nick jones of hereford
I was stood on the terracing in front of what is now the Dolman stand. It was pouring with rain with a high wind - which assisted. I don’t often remember individual goals but this was different
Nogbad the Bad
On the edge of the East End that night, having moved under cover from my usual spot near the back of the open terrace by the enclosure, to get out of the wind and rain. Good view of the whole event and a mixture of shock and disbelief when the ball went in. Chants were uncomplicated in those days, often little more than the player's name 'Tommmmmmmmmmmm Rit-chie', 'Super-Cheese,' 'Sir Geoffrey Merrick,' etc. and Cash's usual chant of, 'Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Cash-ley' was belted out like never before, over and over again, and the excited hubbub in the crowd continued for several minutes. Am I amazed it was 50 years ago? Well, actually no, I was 15 and that is a hell of a long time ago! 2
Rudolf Hucker
I was in the East End, right behind the goal, halfway back and had the perfect view! An unusual mixture of cheers and laughter greeted his goal. 50 years ago ffs!
Enclosure Old Timer
Was there at the back behind the open end goal, I remember the bizarre sight of all the players running to their own penalty area to congratulate the scorer.

SC&T Board Members Blagdon red Posted September 18, 2023 SC&T Board Members Report Share Posted September 18, 2023 Yes. I remember a pause of disbelief in the crowd before Cashley raised his arms and the goal celebrations began.
TV Tom
One of my earliest memories of watching City though I do remember watching Rooks, Whimhurst Parr, Gibbo and Skirton playing, got absolutely soaked walking back up the Novers that night
Sir Geoff
Yep I was there. Right behind it in the East End.
CiderJar
I remember when he bought his house in Wrington and the first thing he did was paint the garage door red. 2
Smith & Gavin
I used to get the bus from Winford into town for school. Ray would be on it, before getting off at the top of Winterstoke Rd to walk down to the ground for training. How times have changed!

Too true. I decided to try out some new waterproof trousers before going on a Winter camp, so wore them that night standing on the Open End. We had a clear view of the ball going in, but didn't realise who had hoofed it upfield.

cidered abroad
I was there in the Dolman block nearest the East (Covered) End. Amazing. Against Hull City and their keeper was, I think, Jeff Westland.

Redtucks
Yes, I was there. Normally in the open end, but due to the crap weather decided to go under cover at the East End. Don't think anyone really knew how to react straight away. Started with laughs before everyone realised that it counted.

bemmyredjeff
HTV news did a feature on it the next evening filming Cashley attempting to repeat the feat. With no gale force wind behind him he got nowhere near it.
