Elruliri
A true legend of the game. Football has lost a god.
Calculus
Saw him quite a few times over the years. What a player he was. Legend is an over used word but totally justified in his case. RIP Sir, thank you.
Lanterne Rouge
Is it just Roger Hunt and Geoff Hurst that are still with us now? RIP Mr Charlton, you will be sadly missed.

RIP Mr Charlton, you will be sadly missed. Sir Bobby was the last surviving member of the team that crashed in Munich. Sadly there are no more alive now...he was the last. I know it affected him terribly and he always felt guilty for surviving. We can't imagine how much that must have haunted him.
Admin Maesknoll Red Posted October 21, 2023 Admin Report Share Posted October 21, 2023 Along with some of the other Man U team of that era, he was a footballing hero in my youth, so distinctive by his style and the hair ‘flap’, 86 not a bad innings, RIP
ralphindevon
When I was a young kid Bobby Charlton was as big an ambassador for England as the Queen. One player I’d love to see play in this era, goodness knows what he’d be worth.
Erithacus
Not only England but the world as a whole has become the lesser for his departure. If you were to pick the all-time football XI his name would be on the list. And like others on that team sheet, if was not just a question of talent on the pitch, but the character and class off it. Along with the likes of Pele and Moore, the game has had no better examples.
Kid in the Riot
Football is the most popular activity on the planet, but it really took off in the 50s and 60s. Bobby was a titanic player of his time, during that period, and it's no exaggeration to say he played his part in spreading the game far and wide. An absolute global footballing icon who should never be forgotten.
Mark barton
I have some vague memories of an England X1 playing city at AG maybe mid 70,s. I thought Charlton was in that side, anyone confirm this?
W-S-M Seagull
This club doesn't get much right. But that was a very nice touch to put a tribute on the screens at the end of the game today.

downendcity
While much is rightly made of the 66 WC winners, the 1970 team was arguably better Had Sir Alf not subbed Bobby Charlton when we were in control in the quarter final against W Germany, who knows what they would have achieved - even against the mighty Brazil!
marmite
My favourite ever player. As kids in the 60's and 70's. we all wanted to play the part of Bobby Charlton. Rip Sir. A true legend.

Really worth a watch as to how good he was. Thanks for posting this, it just reminded me of how good he was. No one could strike a ball like him and as a midfielder or striker he was world class. Another one gone from the 66 team, just Hurst left now. RIP Bobby and thanks so much for the joy you gave us.
Redtucks
RIP Bobby, the best English footballer in all my years of watching football. Bobby Charlton was invariably a name brought up in any conversation abroad about English football.

Talking to a local who spoke no English he tried to find common ground, so asked if the Mexican liked football. " Ah, Bobby Charlton" the local replied. Says it all about the man - universally respected and admired. I had a similar experience in Morocco about 30 years ago. Started up a conversation with the taxi driver and when I said were fly in from England he immediately said 'Bobby Charlton'. Fantastic player and God only knows how he managed to overcome the tragedy of Munich and carry on, though it obviously changed him as a man. RIP Bobby.
