I'm pretty sure there was another angle at the time that showed the goalscorer coming out of the crowd before he got sent off.

Even then he ran the length of the pitch, plus the areas behind it, cleared a bunch of advertising for the celebration and got sent off for his troubles!

Frankly, it's a silly rule but I can sort of see the point. Having said that, there's plenty of stupid celebrations that don't involve shirt removal. I personally hate the baby cradling or 'football up the jersey' ones. And dance moves. And acrobatics. 

Mind you, I also couldn't stand Shearer's dull as shit one-armed salute

I can still see Mick Channon running along after scoring windmilling his arm.

We`ll gloss over where he went for a while later in his career though!
