Nope. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack Hunt had cost more.

Compared to the quality of left backs we’ve had we really have struggled in that position for as long as I can remember.

I understand what you are showing but to get our most expensive signings from all time must take account of financial inflation since.

Best examples I can think of without doing all the maths to prove it would be:-

Paul Cheesley at £30,000

John Galley, can't remember what his fee was but if around £20,000 what a reward we got.

And Tommy Burden, signed from Leeds when he was their captain, for £3,500. We got about nine seasons for a class midfielder.

In short it is not what you pay but what you get for the cost.

I remember being mesmerised by spending £1.2 million on Akinbiyi and £1 million on Thorpe under Ward in the late 90s. Lot of money back then but Goater replacement was desperately needed. So was a Shaun Taylor replacement considering his injury but every CB we signed that year was awful.

And Soren Andersen was 800k IIRC. And we signed Julian ******* Watts to sort the defence out!

Interesting, that's certainly more than Wednesday's most expensive 11.

I think our highest is Jordan Rhodes who was around 8 million (although the actual figure is widely disputed) after that there's Adam Reach was around 5 and then you have to go all the way back to Paulo Di Canio who was 4.5. Not many beyond 3 million other than those. We've tended to waste money more on wages over the years than fees.

Pearson 21/22 £1.900m (Atkinson and Tanner - no loans

Pearson 22/23 £1.700m (Wilson, Clark, Mehmeti and Cornick - no loans)

Pearson total: £7.450m

Manning 23/24 £2.430m (Murphy, Stokes, TGH and Bird (assumed £1.000m)) no idea of loan fees for Mebude and Twine.

Could go 3atb - puts Webster in the picture.

Ie.

Bentley - £2m. Kalas - £8m, Webster - £3.6m, Baker - £3.8m; Weimann - £2.25m, Palmer - £4m, Massengo - £4.6m, DaSilva - £2.2m; Tomlin - £3.5m, Wells - £4m, Diedhiou- £5m.

McCorie, and I could be wrong, according the Aberdeen side was £1.8m initial.
