Danny knew coming in to last season no promotion meant no job. I reckon Barlow leaving kind of sucks and Buster leaving was well in a word wrong.

Why am I posting, We, myself included need to be looking forward not backwards.

The only coach I'd bring in would be a set piece specialist, whom is very much overdue.

Brian was already a first team coach last season so the number of coaches / backroom staff lost has to also include DW.

I see what you're saying, and losing Danny's expertise and experience from the coaching side cannot have been a good thing. I don't think there's any major cause for concern though. For one thing, Brian has reorganised the coaching structure in a better way, making more use of what is available to him, rather than needing additional resources.

I worry that DW (with a career in football) is more likely to be right about the need for backroom staff in a football club than SL (with a career in financial services) is.

As I've posted previously, over the past 12-18 months, SL's business has seen the departure of experienced managers and technical staff and seen them replaced with youthful internal appointments. This works when you are a massive firm of independent financial advisers because there are currently product providers (ie insurance companies) keen to receive their support who provide the technical resource and training 'free of charge'. It is a business model that works well when there are others who will freely fill in the gaps but I cannot see that it is a business model that can be applied to a football club.

I hope I'm wrong, but the continued weakening of the backroom staff seen again today really worries me.

Too true.

The other thing is that in financial services/telephone sales type companies you promote with youth to get the extra effort and early burnout as there is always another sucker in the queue. Football management strikes me as being about building a team that works co-operatively not hierarchicaly (spelling -sorry) I have a personal hatred of 'business models' as in my mind every business exists in it's own dynamic environment and by definition of the individuals who work there, must be individual.

Sure there are some rules that might loosely apply to business, but if we could repeat sucessful business models, we'd all be millionares.

There are too many charlatans who claim to have an overall ability to help you with your business, and most of them work for the DTi!! and other business help schemes up and down the country.

anyhow, sorry 'bout that, but I did think your point was good.
