RedRaw
BT states that if Butler does sign for Blackpool he may well play against us later in the season. How come we didn't have a clause in the deal ala a certain Mr Roberts??
Cardy
Because it will be to our advantage if he does play ! Leroy will skin him...
brady bunch
good point, the one diff is that Blackpool are not local rivals I think. Butler has been great for our club and I for one thank him for is services. It will free the wage bill up and hopefully allow us to bring in Nelson or some other younger version. Hope you're right about Nelson. ← I think its freed up the wage bill so we can pay for Ireland but beofre Nelson can come in (if manangement even want him to) Coles will have to go in order to raise the funds. One transfer fee we can afford but two i think would be stretching it
deadratinmycider
I, for one, wish him all the best as he has been a good servant for BCFC. His only problem has been age catching up with him. As for the Roberts clause, SteveL could see from this forum that opinion was split on Roberts and didn't want hundreds of "i told you so" threads on his forum section!!. fRed
Millen... Lever... Butler... now Ireland The endless search for the next Shaun Taylor, every time it's a 30ish year-old
Robbored
Its a case of "Cherio,Tony" as far as I'm concerned. Butlers' departure is long overdue. He was far too one-dimensional and will never be remembered as great signing. I hope he gets a deal at B'pool. The other aspect of course in that at the time (though not now) Swindle were potential promotion rivals so Roberts could have had a bigger influence on our progress this year - Blackpool however are not so less worry about it effecting our chances. gazareth
More to the point, are we going to ensure we have a replacement signed before we commit to releasing Butler?
Wurzel of Oz
How come we didn't have a clause in the deal ala a certain Mr Roberts?? ← because it's unlikely that Butts will score a score a hatrick against us! RedTauntonian
Theres no doubting it that some people rated butler and others didn't, but when he pulled a shirt on he'd give you 110 percent.

It will free the wage bill up and hopefully allow us to bring in Nelson or some other younger version. ← Why would Nelson want to sign for us? He has a better chance of playing at a higher level with Hartlepool than us. I think he is one of the few with a bit of class in this division and it does make me wonder why he hasn't been signed by someone in the championship. Is there something we don't know? DANNY
Didn't Brooker give him a nightmare earlier in the season when with Port Vale? Although Lita will skin him to.
RedUn
How come we didn't have a clause in the deal ala a certain Mr Roberts?? ← Because the Roberts clause was a way of allowing Swindle (who haven't got any money and probably copuldn't really afford him anyway) to get him a bit cheaper by mitigating the risk to ourselves (e.g. just in case one of his random efforts on goal happened to find the target and keep us out of the play-offs)
Antman
I don't think we could question Butlers commitment. We haven't yet 'signed' Ireland so this seems a little odd to be shifting the senior player at the back first. As for Ireland, he was sure that he wasn't getting a deal here (his words) but then BT gets him back. That seems half baked! Can Ireland be 100% sure he is really wanted by BT? I'm finding myself utterly at odds with the way BT is handling things, and whats more SL has done his 'invisible man' routine I see (or don't see!) -happy to be plastered over the press when it's going 'well' I'm spending too long on here, getting dragged into a moaning mentality. I'm off. Have a nice day y'all
ballwinningcentrehalf
Ah, Tony Butler, the signing that gave birth to my forum name... Brilliant when we first brought him in, a bit dodgy at times since, but always gave 100%. Best of luck to him, apart from when/if he plays us.
