Top 10 Favourite Films

Nothing spectaculor here but mine are:

1. Usual Suspects - Greatest twist of all time, Spacey is brilliant.

2. Pulp Fiction - The coolest film ever made, Samuel L Jackson is brilliant.

3. Go - Under-seen, under-rated, greatest film on the 'teenage' generation I've ever seen.

4. American Beauty - Brilliant story with great character acting from the whole cast.

5. LA Confidential - Crowe, Spacey, Basinger, DeVito and Pearce.

6. Traffic - Great performance from Del Toro, very realistic tale of drug wars.

7. Casino - Despite what everyone says, this is better than Goodfellas.

8. There's Something About Mary - Just beats Meet the Parents which didn't have Cameron Diaz in it.

9. Kill Bill Vol 1 - Because I've never had so much fun at the cinema.

10. Fargo - The blackest of black comedies.

Honourable mentions: 21 Grams, Eternal Sunshine..., Election, The Score, Memento, Swimming With Sharks

1. Shawshank Redemption - Fantastic story of triumphing over adversity. Apocalypse Now and American Beauty challenge it (especially the former) but just fall short, shocked it isnt in others top 10!

2. Apocalypse Now - Without a shadow of a doubt would be one of my 'desert island films.' Outstanding - produces a phenomenal narrative accompanied by historical background whilst emcompassing the American 'cowboy' attitude toward the Vietnam war. Robert Duvall perhaps at his best. Greatest war film ever.

3. American Beauty - Truly outstanding. Works on so many levels that the majority of people will be ignorant to its many subliminal implications. Sam Mendes does a superb job as director on his first outing in film since his transition from theatre.

4. Usual Suspects - Its no coincidence that 2 of my top 5 feature Kevin Spacey. Spacey carries the film which gives us one of the best endings to any film of all time. Brian Singer (director) creates an errie 'film noir' atmosphere throughout and, along with Spacey, manages to convince the audience that such an audacious act of delusion could indeed occur.

5. Wall Street - "Greed is good." Michael Douglas performance was never better in a great story of the innocent man (Charlie Sheen} corrupted by money.

6. The Untouchables - Sean Connery is brilliant. Features one of the most parodied scenes of all time. Closely battles it out with number 9 for best gangster movie of all time.

7. Gangs Of New York - Earns its right in the list because of a monumental performance by Daniel Day Lewis, perhaps the best performance by any actor ive seen.

8. Jaws - Simply a great film. Spielberg manages to create a truly terrifying 'beast', although the most remarkable thing about the film is that the first time the viewer see's the shark is over an hour into the film. After release people were scared to go into Swimming pools, let alone the ocean!

9. The Godfather (Part I) - Epitomises the word 'epic'. Brando is sensational and Pachino's decent from clean cut military man to gang land boss sets the scene for a fantastic trilogy of films.

10. The Great Escape - All star cast for this much loved movie. It could be argued that the only reason it isnt higher is due to the amount of times ive seen it!

Mentions for : The Thin Red Line, Platoon, Pulp Fiction and Toy Story (both landmarks in the film industry) and Die Hard.

You've started something here, after a great deal of thought, here goes:

1. Some Kind Of Wonderful - Brilliant feel good film in an 80's kind of way.

2. Shawshank Redemption - Morgan Freeman and Tim Robins are both excellent.

3. Schindler's List - Once seen, never forgotten.

4. Seven - Very dark and a totally evil film, Morgan Freeman in the library give me goose pimples everytime what with the background music.

5. The Big Lebowski - A masterpiece, but you have to watch it twice to appreciate it.

6. True Romance - Tarantino wrote it. Christian Slater, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hoppper, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, James Gandolfini, Val Kilmer, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Penn. How many more stars do you want?

7. Heat - Paccino v De Niro. Plus the best shoot out ever.

8. Snatch - Alan Ford, scarey as hell. Plus Pitt is fantastic as a Pikey.

9. Goodfellas - Funny? How? Am I here to amuse you? = Time to change trousers.

10. Pulp Fiction - A masterpiece.

Best films with a twist are: Arlington Road, No Escape and The Usual Suspects.

I would do a top ten but know i would keep changing my mind and editing it every five mins.

So here are a couple

Highlander.... For me the best film ever made. Great storyline, awsome soundtrack and most of all,,,,, it was original.

Shawshank..... One of the most under-rated films of all time. Morgan Freeman is just quality.

The usual suspects..... Top film, keeps you guessing right til the end.

Seven..... What a great ending. I never saw it comimg.

The great escape.... Feels me with pride every time i watch it.

And something tells me, Episode 3 when i watch it later tonight.

Great film yes, but most certainly not under rated.

its under rated as you can get it cheap in HMV (£6.99 i got it for on dvd) and it did bugger all when it came out back in the 90's, it only became well known well after it was released, and the critics at the time didn't rate it either. On the dvd i got, there is a documentary, and most of the critics said that it was just another prison movie. How how wrong they were....

I think the phrase you're searching for is 'cult classic'.

Nevertheless I agree that it is not under-rated.

oh i agree, its a legendary film, what i was getting at was that it was under rated when it first came out in the 90's.

When Channel 4 did the best hundred films ever made, Shawshank was number 3.

They did state that on it's release the critics slated it. Then people started recommending it to their mates by word of mouth, they then told their mates etc. Thus totally ignoring what the papers said.
