Guest mesa boogie Posted January 11, 2006 Report Share Posted January 11, 2006 and the sags nicked goodnight irene off of Plymouth who used to sing it in the 50s :Crazy:Wrong, Plymouth were up at half time and were singing towards the Rovers supporters 'Goodnight Rovers' o the tune of 'Goodnight Irene'. We then turned them over second half prompting us to sing 'Goodnight Irene'. Was then played before matches as it was a hit at the time and has stuck ever since. BigTone Posted January 11, 2006 Report Share Posted January 11, 2006 Considering that the song was written by Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers who is a Liverpudlian born and bred I think you'll find its the other way around.He also wrote "Ferry across the Mersey".Rogers & Hammerstein wrote it, not Gerry & The Pacemakers . It was adopted by Celtic before Liverpool took it on which in fairness is a little known fact. Do some homework and you'll find I am 100% correct.
