Puma Founder Was A Nazi

A Dutch author called Barbara Smit has written what looks like a fascinating story about the founding of two of the world's first and now top sports brands, Adidas and Puma. Both German, both from a small town of just 23,000 people just outside Nuremburg and both run by feuding brothers. Both were also quite keen Nazis which is the black mark on their record and seems the companies curried favour with the 1930's brutal regime in return for probable business benefits. Ms Smit writes.....

The war exacerbated tensions between the two brothers and their wives. Although both Dasslers joined the Nazi party and signed their letters with a "Heil Hitler" salutation, Rudolf was a more devoted Nazi, according to Smit. end quote.

Rudolf was head of Puma, City's new kit supplier.

Its all ancient history now I say to myself and we have moved on. But have the companies?... Both are still owned, run and managed by the Dassler families. Had they not got through the war years in such a healthy state they might not be where they are today.

I guess you can say that about VW - very blemished record. Well I don't drive one but i might find it hard not to buy a City shirt because I love my team above the problems of the past. But at least its worth sparing a thought for the small part a lot of companies played in germany in tacitly supporting the gov't of the day.

So I suppose we should forgive Maradona for his hand of god then?!!!

Still, pity City did not go with Umbro - British through and through.

Discuss.

couldn't give a tinkers cuss to be honest, its in the past. the individuals involved are gone, if I commit a crime should my son serve the prison sentence for me?,

Based on your theory we should not buy anything Italian because Romans invaded us a couple of thousand years ago!!

Almost every German supported the government of the 1930's, the people did not have our "hindsight", all they saw was a broken country getting back on its feet, feeling good and people being feed properly (many starved in the 1920's). It was the miracles of these years that lead so many good people to blindly follow their leadership to war and ruin.

Our problem is that we in England still have pumped into us much of the anti German war propaganda from the 40's we also keep harping back to it because we were then a great country / power.

If you go to modern day Germany you will find they are hard working, friendly lot that like a beer and football (just like us really, apart from they still favour waddle style mullets!!)

Don't think it matters, people still buy bayer's products (most household cleaning products are made by bayer) and they helped the nazis iirc they provided the zyklon B for the gas chambers. VW were set up by the Nazis, there are many companies in Germany and throughout Europe that helped the Nazis at one time or another, iirc Phillips helped them. Businesses are usually not political but they do what they need to to continue so many helped the nazis because it would have been the end othewise so it is not a problem in my eyes. Porsche also made tank parts and made a turret for the king tiger.

Although VW won't let them use a beetle in the transformers film for bumblebee because it's a film about war and they don't want to be assosiated with any film to do with any kind of war because of their links to WWII.

Hands up all those that drive a British car. And watch a British telly? And blame Oliver Cromwell?

That'll be just you Red Gobsh1te.

I will not hear a bad word said against the man that invented gravity, he is up there, on a par with the likes of Jebus and Stalin.

Doubt we should shop in Aldi or Lidl either

Not if you don't want a sh1tload of genetically modified body parts

So because a Dutch author has written a fascinating story and "believes" that Rudolf Dassler was a more devoted Nazi and it "seems" they curried favour with the Nazi regime to build up their businesses (over 60 years ago) you think people should question buying a new City shirt? Not me pal - I will be buying my son's kit the day it is on sale. Sorry!!

British car :o

please tell me more of this mythical machine?

WARNING - A TOTAL DIGRESSION - but it is the close season.

british made, or british owned? if the latter there is not a lot left but here are a few...

BRISTOL [YEAH]

MORGAN

CATERHAM

NOBLE

ULTIMA

CONNAUGHT

PRODRIVE - they actually build all the rally cars for Subaru as well.

there are a few more companies as well tucked away producing seriously fast and fabulously put together machines. We have, for some time, been number one in the world for ultra specialist car manufacturing...

MOST FORMULA ONE TEAMS - are based in oxfordshire, northants area whether british or not.

TRIUMPH MOTORBIKES - just overtaken BMW as number one best selling import in the USA

BRITISH NAMES AND BUILT - FOREIGN OWNED:-

TVR - russian kid

MINI - bmw

LANDROVER - ford

JAGUAR - ford

ASTON MARTIN - ford

BENTLEY - vw

ROLLS ROYCE - bmw

VAUXHALL ASTRA - gm [since the 1930's?]

No Fords are built in the UK anymore. Only engines in south wales.

FOREIGN OWNED BUILT IN BRITAIN

HONDA CIVIC [not hybrid]

HONDA ACCORD

NISSAN MICRA AND PRIMERA

TOYOTA AVENSIS AND LITTLE CAR

PEUGEOT 206 - NOT FOR MUCH LONGER

fascinatingly boring!

we may yet see production re-start for MG at Longbridge - its 50:50.

There is also a deal on the table for the Smart Roadster to re-appear, british owned, re-built in Coventry and licenced as the MG Midget with a different body. And also rumours the Healey will re-appear now the name is being purchased by a UK/US consortium.

something to cheer about despite all the tabloid bollox. cars, as we know them today, are not the future anyway.

I too drive a new british made car and it is a fabulously put together piece of machinery. :englandsmile4wf:

Hang on - are you saying Steve Phillips is a nazi? No wonder he's on the transfer list.

The Puma founder was a Nazi that's nice. But how long ago was that?

That's like saying "oh no, that person is white that must mean he looks down to black people and was is involved in slave trading!" No, because that was ###### years back also.

Times change. People change. Things change. Stupid threads always reappear though. Why, why, why!

What's brought this on MaloneFM?! :D

Perhaps you should also blame Oliver Cromwell, John Lilburne and Co for the rights you now enjoy with regard to freedom of speech and expression in today's England. Ordinary Englishmen/women are actually represented by a House of Commons that is, more or less, free from tyrannical toff/snob royalist interference - thank Cromwell and Co for that as well. Or would you rather be on your knees to some royalist snob/toff landlord with you having to ask permission to write on this forum for instance?

I also drive a German car and watch a Japanese TV because they're reliable - and that's due to freedom of choice and is a benefit of the free market economy. Free trade and freedom to buy what you want was another concept endorsed by Oliver Cromwell and Co. :farmer:

Well, seeing that the FA of Israel have forgiven Puma I think we should too. I believe that Puma also make the Israel international team kit!!!!

Nothing to forgive though, as I have said twice now Adolf Dassler the founder of Adidas was in the SS, his brother Rudolph the founder of Puma shopped him to the US authorities at the end of the war.
