This is the first I have heard of it today and had actually forgotten which is really bad. In one of the worst days football in england has ever had and not a word is mentioned to remember those who lost thier lives just for the sake of 90 mins of football

I got married the day before Hillsborough. I can't remember my annerversary without thinking about the loss of life whilst standing at City v Blackpool the day after. Seeing the eternal flame memorial at Anfield is also very moving.RIP football fans everywhere.

I think it really sinks in when you write out a list of names like that.

After all the events like September 11th, Lockerbie and Madrid, we've all become a bit numbed by the numbers involved, but when you see every one as a human being it really brings the scale of the disaster home.

Good post Spud.

Awful day and when we went to Hilsbro' it was brought up in discussion which was a little strange talking about it actually where it happened. Sad to see many 14 years old as well as 10, 15 years olds etc. Their lives only just starting.

RIP

thinkin` of ole they poor souls who only turned up to

watch a game of football when we were watchin` the

February! An we be thinkin` of um ole and their family`s

yeah, it was a spooky day at sheffield sat in the lower tier

sat just a stone throw away from where all those names

lost their lives it very much changed football some for the

better and some for the worse ''hence the east end talk''

which is trivial to someones life mabe some of our

lads should think about that before jumping on a fence

if it collapsed and they get hurt hmmm well  .

but all that a side they should never be forgotten

looking at the list , you can see a lot of Fathers and son's died together , just imagine being the wife to hear your husband and son have been killed at a "football match"

Well done for reminding us, Spud55. Its a moving sight to stand by the memorial before a match at Anfield. Part of the pre-match ritual for many fans is to touch or kiss the memorial on the way past.

The way footy fans used to be herded in like animals meant that Hillsborough was a disaster waiting to happen - and it was far from the first such tragedy (Ibrox in 1971(?) springs to mind. ) Hopefully it will be the last.

For further info the link to the Liverpool rivals site may be helful:

Seeing that list of names really makes you stop and think. I was only 7 when it happened and, although I have a vague recollection of seeing it on the news, it wasn't until I got a bit older that I fully understood the scale and circumstances of the tragedy.

May they rest in peace.

That day, together with Hysel and Bradford dictated the way football grounds have developed and it is a tragedy indeed that so many lives were lost before the realisation that fans had to be seated to be safe. A further tragedy is now waiting to happen because of the increasing cry for terracing to be re-introduced. I hope it does not happen

Sorry England I happen to agree that the police were culpable in the tragedy but how often is it the law-abiding enforcement lot get successfully prosecuted? Not often. The law looks after its own and damn the rest.

Its hard to think it is 15 years; how fast time flies by. Its a sobering reminder as to why clubs have to be very careful over health and safety issues, even if some fans don't understand and argue against club actions. City do bear things like this in mind and if stupid brain-dead morons go attacking fences in the East End what else can the club do?

This is one of the reasons we are no longer allowed to stand at most grounds, and although it may be a bit of an over-reaction, at least hopefully this kind of thing will never happen again.

Just out of interest what did The Sun say? I was only a kid at the time. Was that the time when they said teh Liverpool fans lets just say didnt fully respect the dead.

Just out of interest what did The Sun say? I was only a kid at the time. Was that the time when they said teh Liverpool fans lets just say didnt fully respect the dead.

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!

Just a thing i found on the liverpool rivals site may help to explain why they will never buy the sun again.

"The Sun's dead good, it's got birds with big knockers.

Take them in work and decorate your lockers.

The sport in it's boss, especially the racin'.

And the 'oroscopes tell us the day we're all facin'."

"Don't you remember, you ignorant swine?

All the lies they told in eighty-nine.

Let me remind you just what they said.

We ###### on the bizzies and robbed our own dead."

"But the telly page's sound, they've got bingo and lotto.

And on one of the pages there's a nice little motto.

Anyway Evo I just didn't know.

It doesn't matter now it was so long ago."

"It does ######in' matter! It matters a lot.

People had children they've no longer got.

People had fathers they'll no longer see.

They said that I killed them, they said it was me!"

"Shut up will you Evo. You're always bangin' on.

Hillsborough and justice, all that carry on.

Anyway Evo get out of me face.

It's only a newspaper in any case."

"It's not a newspaper. A newspaper has news.

Not made up stories with which to abuse.

What they said was "The Truth" were scurrilous lies.

We got no apology. What a surprise!"

"All right then Evo what should I buy?

Tell me one, give me the reason why.

Which one do you think stands out from the rest?

The Mirror, The Echo, which one's the best?"

"Don't buy the Sun. It's fit only to burn.

Don't buy the Sun. There's nothing you'll learn.

I'll say it once more and then I'll be done.

Buy what you want but DON'T BUY THE SUN!"
