This is getting cringe now. You'd think we'd lost every game

We are missing a massive opportunity by not investing in the squad. We deserve as fans to hear from the board, it’s not fair or acceptable for the hard working manager to have to continue to deal with questions from the media when it’s not his decision. Need to see some leadership and comms. How we miss Geoff Twentyman.

  2. Or indeed who are you? Thought this was supposed to be a progressive CEO appointment. How Richard Gould is being missed. Could say the same for Jon Lansdown. You can get a strong indication from the messages Tinnion likes on Twitter that the consensus outside of management and fans seem to be that we have a good squad and a positive window. How naive! Certainly feels the fans have no say or respect being shown especially when we are one of the most expensive clubs to watch at this level.

If you are Steve, just how well do you want your successor to do, though? You wouldn't want them doing too well, would you?

Imagine you're Steve, and you sell up to whoever, and they move in and swiftly make some strategic changes, new CEO, new Head Coach and so on, and then, in their first full season, Bristol City fly, finish in the top six, fail heroically, make a small fortune/nest egg, and second full season, the new owner takes us to promotion.

If you're Steve, you're thinking: Ffs!

Imagine you're Steve, and you sell up, and we go up (and stay up), and nobody misses you. Not even those that defended you to the end. That's got to hurt?

If you’re Steve, and you sell the City, you don't want the owners doing that well, do you? Not really, deep down. That's got to be a quiet thought he has to himself, once in a while?

You want to be missed, a bit. Or more than a bit. You want the gobby ****ers that told you you knew nothing about football to eat their words. And they won't be doing that if the new bloke/owner is too successful, too quickly.

Pearson should just walk. I would. An absolute farce from the owners and board. Disgusting way to treat the management and fans.

I don't think he will. Because he will be gone.

    His successor might though.

I agree. Staying up is important this year as I cannot see us bettering 14th with the injuries we have and lack of depth. Nigel will keep us up but any stupid  decision from the board could see relegation.

What’s he in it for then?

Probably bored. He took over as chairman from Laycock in 2003 ish I believe, that is 20 plus years. A shame he doesn’t go back to his ‘Ask SL’ thread on here. Was so open then. Different times.

Listen to it all, especially the last half-a second.

mods - please merge if need be

Is a takeover brewing here? Is that why for the first time in 10 years or so we haven’t had a SL interview for first game? Silence from new CEO. It’s all very very odd. Unless they have decided to sack Nige in the Int Break? Whatever happens if we sign nobody tomorrow as it seems then beware the backlash of the fans. In Nigel we trust and he will be the one we support!

I don’t think you’re alone…although I do think his first two years of quad then hamstring issues have built in some bias.

His passing is array (awry) - he is a mixed bag, granted, but he is often the one trying to drive us on, create the tempo for us, so his passing has inherent risk in it, unlike someone like James who is pretty safe in his passing.

Injury prone - yes, he’s had his probs, but last season he was injured once…and his season-ender was rehabbed quicker than expected and he came back ahead of time.  His availability over the past year and a bit has been good.  He’s probably being managed a tad too.

Ben Pearson type - he was never that.  He was a box-to-box, energetic midfielder.  Pearson is a base of the midfield disruptor.  Injury has taken some of his “skillset” away, granted.

As for this season, he’s been pretty good, fwiw I thought he was our best player on Tuesday, the one breaking up play, forcing the press, feeding Sykes, getting around the pitch etc.  I think like James, people don’t see what players like Joe do on the pitch.

I’m not saying don’t move him on…but he has a full role to play this season as part of the midfield “group”.

I just don’t think there is a “trade option” out there I’m afraid.

£15k seems to be the figure mooted by Gould.

Fair enough but not sure I agree with all your comments above (that’s the joy of football). I am OK keeping him as a squad player but feel we need better in the midfield and if the only way is to be trading players then so be it. Aside from him and it Wells/Cornick, I can’t think of many who we can realistically move on to upgrade. But as we’ve said many times, this shouldn’t even be an issue, it’s down to SL.

Would still be very surprised if he was on that much. If he is then no way he gets that in his next contract.

We signed him from relegated Wigan who can’t have been high payers, from memory the other side in for him was Preston, so same thing applies.

I can’t see him being on more than £15k absolute tops, he’s not a Wells or a Weimann in terms of stature in the division.

Said it already but even if we did move him on we’re simply tinkering at the edges, he’s featured in every single game so far.

I’d rather we kept him, I thought he was our best player v Norwich, did well at Hull & I don’t think our season will stand or fall on moving him on & then bringing one other player in.

Interesting as I just don’t see it with Williams. I think he’s been a massive disappointment and one I would be keen to move on. His passing is array, injury prone and offers no goal threat. I thought we had signed a prime Ben Pearson type but how wrong we were albeit the injury he had probably curtailed this. He seems a great guy and clearly passionate, but if there was a chance to upgrade or trade he for me is the obvious one.

Cardiff fans saying they are close to getting K Moore back in on loan for the rest of the season.

I thought their hands were tied finacally ?

They are but are taking some element of risk. Where as we have gone completely the other way. Moore would give us a focal point, he’s a clever player and a very good finisher.

Could this be a situation where our manager is actually more popular with the supporters than with the hierarchy. Quite rare for that to happen, it could be argued that Cotts achieved this too, though his reaction to backing being withheld turned a few against him.

Edit: but can we learn from this history? Unpopular manager with the board, has backing withheld when he feels close to being competitive, reacts badly, gets replaced, new manager gets backed. We have built up a little "nest egg" to support a new appointment in the January window?

It certainly feels that way. Let’s be honest would you bet on Nige being manager this time next year? I wouldn’t. I do wonder if they feel they’ve backed him this summer with a few signings and they genuinely feel we have a squad capable of being top 6. The SL Luton comment keeps coming up, I understood we were keen on Carlton Morris but naturally didn’t have the cash to splash last summer. Cornick aside I do think Nige has got a lot right signings wise considering the tight budget restraints.

But if a promotion challenge wasn't part of the "sell", why was SL quick to pushback when Twentyman probed him about a new deal for Nigel that he hadn't achieved anything yet. JL too has accused NP of under-achieving. If cost cutting and treading water was the only target then NP is meeting that very nicely and talks would already have begun.

They don’t understand what it takes to be successful on the pitch that is why. Time for change and I’ll keep saying that because seriously baffled with current events. Nige has done a good job, shame it’s not being reciprocated with backing.

Let’s just say he’s on £18k p.w (signed in boom time).

    Who is gonna buy him?

What transfer fee are they gonna pay?

How much of his wages might we need to contribute for the remaining term if his contract for him to sign elsewhere?

…and haven’t we left it too late, in reality?

We know how swiftly things can happen in the window! Look at Cole Palmer to Chelsea. It’s a reactive day as per our Afobe signing a few years ago. We could contribute towards wages to free up resource. The crazy thing about all of this is FFP wise we don’t need to trade anyone but clearly it is the SL way moving forward. Just be nice to hear the club being open around this new approach. Plus we don’t need fees clearly, it’s wage reductions. I’m sure a few clubs would be interested. QPR for example.

  13. Back to the top of the thread…..I really feel we need to move on Williams by the end of the window. I’m sure there would be some suitors and he is one of the remaining high earners. We need better.

5 Things I would like to say to our owner...(I could list 100)

    1. Steve Lansdown is a legend at Bristol City
    2. Steve Lansdown redeveloped Ashton Gate. It's amazing now (for home fans)
    3. Steve Lansdown should have never appointed Brian Tinnion as Manager
    4. Steve Lansdown - Coppell saw how you ran the club in a few weeks and walked because of that!
    5. Steve Lansdown - Give NP the required funds NOW so we have cover at GK, CB & CF (not big money required)

What do we all think of BT now in charge of recruitment etc? I mean I loved BT as a player, prob my top 3, class act and city legend, but not convinced it’s the right move, especially as someone who had a poor spell as manager and a below average recruitment record. I suppose G Smith did score v the Gas!

    For me

                               O’Leary

             Tanner    Vyner    Naismith   Pring

                                James

                           TGH   Knight

                Sykes                            Bell

                               Cornick

I’d like to see what TGH has to offer to our midfield. From reviews he’s energetic, not afraid to shoot and can operate as a number 8 so beside Knight could offer us some real energy with James given them a licence.

I’m purely starting Bell over lack of other options and feel if Mehmeti was in any type of form he’d get the nod here. But Bell wasn’t too bad vs these lot in the cup last year…

A punt with Cornick through the middle, why not at this point… he looked better for it when he came on vs Hull.

There is no way on earth that Tanner deserves to play. He’s been poor in every game and is our current weakest link. Seems to have lost confidence.

Steve Lansdown is not a director nor employee of either company. He is likely a director of the parent company of Bristol City Holdings Limited, Pula Sport Ltd, but as that is a Guernsey company it's register of directors is not publicly available.

Don’t hear from any of them. Silence.

  17. We need a change, he’s delivered a strong legacy off the pitch and forever grateful. Would never want a protest type approach as he doesn’t deserve that. But we are very stale, it’s been over 20 years now, I don’t think we will ever get to the PL unless there is a some risk with new ownership and a different direction. I live near a Birmingham fan and he is loving life, it’s exciting.
