Trying not to over react, really trying!

    But....

I believe we are in trouble, at 1-0 down I look at the team and bench and I think who can change this? Who can score out of nothing, who can send in a cross, who can find a defence splitting pass, no one really.

We are slow, predictable,  boring, and easy to play against.

No one will get 20 goals

No one will provide many assists

We won't keep many clean sheets

How are we not in a bottom half battle to stay up?

    Please prove me wrong

I think Pearson has done a good job clearing the dead wood, lowering the wage, and sorting the back room stuff, but we look a million miles off a top 6 team at the moment.

I feel completely drained after only 2 home games. I dont know what the answer is, but today, apart from the one Wells' chance was pretty dire, Preston was no better.

    Off to get very drunk

    COYR!

Don’t blame you, with what we charge for season tickets and match day (£44 in the SL central) it’s incredibly dire football! Never been so bored in the last two home games.

  2. I loved Tinman as a player, probably my all time top 3 in past 30 years, but I am not as convinced as others that he is the right person to be leading our recruitment. Let’s not forget the disaster he created as manager and poor quality of signings back then. Deserves a role for life like Scotty of course, just not sure it’s the right setup. Someone like Dembele would have been perfect for us.

Nobody is an Alex Scott replacement. They won’t but the same. But Knight, or another, can replace the importance of Scott to the way we play.

I don’t think I’ve even seen anyone suggest that Knight is a direct replacement for Scott ?‍♂️..Nige even suggested they were to play together.

Nige said again today that he signed Knight to play with Scott. We have to replace Scott with another attacking CM.

Creating wasn't the issue today. We got the ball into the box aplenty. There just wasn't anyone there to get on the end if the balls, that was the problem today.

We lack the pace and power of a Semenyo who can stretch teams. We also need a strong CF who can hold the ball and link, but crucially as we’ve always lacked year on year…..a creative goal scoring mid!

Fair shout, pretty much sees it as most of us fans do. He will know more than anyone that we need more creative additions to the squad. Over to you now Mr Lansdown..

He won’t be here at Christmas if we carry on and that’s not me wanting him gone, I just don’t think he and SL see eye to eye. We know how that ends, I think Nige deserves much better backing wise.

Lets hope McCrorie is a powerful lump when fit. We miss strength, power AND pace. Mehmeti has zero pace also.
We couldnt play any slower if we tried and must be so easy to scout and set up against for other teams.
Desperately need a couple of big powerful lumps in midfield and upfront as a minimum.
If we cant reinvest even £5m of the £25m Scott fee then League One here we come.

It’s worrying, all the League 1 and 2 friendly opponents was laughable really. Same as last season. At least we would win that league! Could be a good thing to rebuild all joking aside!

Is it just me but the following:

    Sam Bell’s pace.
O’Leary commanding his box and distribution.

Neither of these are actually true!

Bell couldnt beat an egg let alone a full back.
O’Leary doesnt command his box and no way can he distribute a ball effectively.
Apparently we have pace in the team. Im aftaid the only player we have with pace is Sykes, yet he cant get a game ahead of the raffle winner Cornick!

    absolutely baffled.

I agree completely. Bell has a good burst of pace but he lacks anything else, the front 6 are so non threatening, where is this pace that Nigel keeps referring to? And don’t get me started on Pring and Tanner, neither deserve to play at present, Tanner in particular. So poor, they don’t even move! We’ve got big problems and League One and the academy can’t be the only solutions. I’ve said before, Tinnion signed Grant Smith, Matt Heywood et al, let’s be serious.

  8. Well done to Birmingham, a well drilled side who also have guile, strength, creativity and pace. Everything we lack. Been to each game this season and we are so poor, our front 6 aside from Conway are not good enough to push above our usual 14th to 18th and we must have the most static, non creative midfield in the league. Get to the market now and sort this or let’s hope for another Tom Brady to finally take this club forward and create some excitement.

I thought worked their nuts off today.

Really unusual for Billy Mitchell not to ferret around and influence the game.  He did nothing bar one pass out right.

Their shape meant that Sykes and Bell could tuck in 5 yards and Wallace (LCB3) couldn’t find Bryan, nor Hutchinson find McNamara.  And Whatmore and Flemming never got the ball and faced up our back four either…James’s positioning at times so good.

Just posted a summary on Twitter with some pics and crayons!

Naismith is pure class, a level above Joe W, needs to start when fit.

Just because Mark Ashton's name has come up a lot on this thread I'll post this controversial and undoubtedly unpopular question here...

Are Ashton and Rolls doing a good job at Ipswich Town?

They joined the club when it was mid table league 1, and now they're in a 100% record in the Championship and won in the League Cup too (albeit against some lower league dog dirt club).

I appreciate that the financial investment fuelled the success, but Ashton was in part responsible for brokering the investment, and then oversaw the spend. Did he also recruit a new manager? And Rolls has had to keep the squad fit. Has he done so?

The pair were treated with derision and contempt when they left, but a lot of snide comments about how Ipswich will regret these appointments seem to have been misplaced. Ipswich look in a pretty good place right now?

    Just playing devil's advocate!!!

I don’t live far from Ipswich and can tell you now, their fans are very confident this season, they have an excellent high energy side and Portman Road is difficult for people to get tickets, close to 30K today. £8M bid for Armstrong at Saints being lined up.

  11. Great win today, no doubt we are a hard working side and defensively the best we’ve looked in many years, Zak and Rob were superb again, Roberts for me looks a step ahead of Cam for now, albeit Cam defended well first half. McCrorie coming back will make a difference too, feel he and Roberts will give more energetic attacking threat for us. Naismith and Mehmeti were positive as subs, Mehmeti has such different qualities to anyone else and Naismith is just a class footballer, great attitude and so calm under pressure, we were more fluid after those changes. If we can add another CM and a powerful striker to really lead that line we are in a good place.

He says we've got a great stadium, fantastic training facilities, strong squad with experienced players...

He forgot to mention a top manager ? I can never shake the feeling that he doesn't like Nige, albeit that is only based on that one strange and unnecessary comment a while ago about them not always seeing eye to eye, but also just my estimation of their very contrasting, probably conflicting, personalities.

He says the same all the time. I thought it was poor of him to say we have a better squad than Luton. Does he realise how powerful and driven Luton were as a team, they deserved to go up and were in play offs season before. Again as I’ve said before, you get the feeling not a lot of love for the manager. If we aren’t in and around it October/November don’t be surprised if he makes a change.

Jesus, you spout some bollocks! For a decade or more SL has been looking to have someone to make the most of his investment in the Academy and now we have someone at the top doing just that, you think that SL will be banging on his door telling to sign some random player on loan?

Where this idea of a lack of connectivity between Pearson and the board has come from I don't know, but it seems to me that Pearson has bought into the Academy plan just as required, and shown how it can best be utilised, so why would they be wanting him to throw that away?

IF, and it's a big IF for a reason, he was showing to loan a player it would only be with a view to buy, he has said so himself.

As he is one of the most experienced Managers in football, I am going to take his side on this, rather than someone who thinks he's crazy not to change his mindset.

Hang on, I am not criticising Nige, I’m a big fan of his. I am just saying what it feels like. I’m not the only person who has been saying that on here. I’ll move on.

Or could finally provide us with some goals from midfield that would help shoot us up the table.

My point was more than Nigel hasn't signed a loan player in 2.5 years, so seems improbable he'll start now.

He needs to move on from that, this season is his last chance, unless we really push top 6 I cannot see SL renewing his contract, not saying I agree with that but I just don’t feel the connectivity from board to management, could be wrong of course. Clubs who do well use the loan market. It’s crazy not to, we have enough assets already.

I wonder where he’d fit in.  I really like him too, but at MK he played almost like an inside left forward, and Burnley all over the place.

I find it difficult to look at his loan at Newport where he was great and evaluate him playing in midfield (with a lot of license) at Lg2 to where we are now.  Also, both MK and Burnley were high possession teams.

I’m certainly not against it, but just have a few doubts.

It’s an interesting one for sure, but he could fill so many roles, left wing, Attacking CM, maybe free up Bell to play as a striker or right wing. I think it’s a no brainer surely if Hull can afford him.

  16. 5 minutes ago, Ian M said:

I still can’t see us bringing in more than 1 player so for me it has to be a CM with some kind of creativity about him (and ideally a degree of ability to resist the opposition’s press), unless we are totally convinced Naismith can stay fit.

Without this kind of player we’re a little bit too predictable and I can’t see us improving much on last season, maybe 10th to 16th.

SL will give some money you feel, think we want a CM and striker. Surely we can get a keeper too for a decent wage.
