Yes. I was thinking about these comments too.
He mentioned it a few times and was very very keen to stress that he’d “led the negotiations”.
Almost TOO keen to stress that!
It seems that Phil was the one talking to the other clubs and agents whilst he wasn’t actually able to agree on anything and had to go back to get Steve’s agreement on anything.
“Yep, thanks for the offer, I’ll just need to check that with my boss and I’ll come back to”.
    That’s not a great look.
In my opinion, I believe Steve looked upon Alex Scott as his own pet project. Guernsey lad recommended to Steve through personal connections in Guernsey. Steve took this one personally and wanted this to be a big tick on an achievement box stating “great things that have happened because of my Guernsey status”.

Steve needs to shit or get off the pot. Either he is in charge of the financial dealings of the club or he’s appointed others to manage that. A CEO having to “just check with the boss” is bloody ridiculous.

I think the Alex Scott sale is another example of Steve showing his egotistical side. It’s an example of him wanting to do the best for his reputation as a Guernsey resident as much as it was for the benefit of Bristol City.

In the corporate world, a CEO having to check with the majority shareholder over every deal just doesnt happen. Too hands on still, but then it’s his money isn’t it as we keep being told. Clear that there is a loss of appetite with a hope to being able to fluke the Luton model which is like saying I hope to win the lottery next year!

    1) doesn't particularly like/rate the current manager

    2) doesn't get the power and influence over footballing matters that he has enjoyed under previous managers

    3) sale of the club is imminent

It's not a fortune to him, mind. It's relative peanuts.

He wasted years on the Johnson family and trying to believe Millen, Tinnion and Holden would step up and be the next big thing. It all failed. I think the majority are over it, 20 plus years is a long time, we need change.

Not really buying in to that, we all expected Scott to be sold, what I hadn't appreciated was that the transfer activity was 'Plan A' and that we would have been spannered if Scott had stayed.

On the Transfer Window, quite impressed.

Less impressed when I understand that this was a Plan A Window.

We were told a plan B without Scott. It is what it is but we are one of the most expensive clubs to watch in this league too. All we wanted was some decent cover to help us push on. Clear as day that change is afoot. Time for the owners to move on now and also not convinced at all by PA!

Gary had significantly more bang for his buck than Lee tbh. Spend to position ratio.

That said no FFP then and maybe wages in general were lower so swings and roundabouts but Gary Johnson was IMO significantly superior at the end of the day to Lee Johnson.

Both incredibly limited hence why no bigger club has ever taken either on in any capacity. Cannot manage big players.

This is my sentiment. Robins would be right at the top of my list of choices of replacements but I'd not be looking to replace.

My take is that I think people can very easily overstate and over-romanticise the value of change over consistency. There's obviously points where you do need to make a change in management and you get to a point with some managers - even good ones - where it becomes clear they've run their course. Gary Johnson did a brilliant job but reached a point where he was confounded by too many options at his disposal and had lost touch with how he wanted to play. Cotterill's relationship with the board had obviously sapped his enthusiasm for the job and Lee Johnson, whilst never brilliant, had clearly lost sense of a strategy or system in his last season and it was obvious his time was up.

Whilst you never know what is going to happen by the end of the season, I don't feel that at all with Pearson. I feel he knows the players and - even if he was frustrated by some of our transfer policy - he's brought in the types of player he wants. He seems to have a clear direction he's taking the club in and my sense is he still has a hunger and enthusiasm for it. I'd certainly argue the squad needs two or three players added to it but there's very few, if any, I'd actively get rid of and the roots are there for a strong side. If Pearson wanted to carry on, I don't see any good reason to make a change.

Gary Johnson’s team achieved the most but we were very lucky with backs to wall performances (remember Sheff Wed away) and even our promotion side was average, we were never great to watch under Gary but he got results. Proved however what a limited coach he was once we backed him, a bit like his son. There is a reason why bigger clubs than us didn’t go for either.

Pretty much every game this season I’ve seen opposition players cramping up against us.  Unfortunately our quality hasn’t always matched our fitness levels…but we do look very fit.

Agree, I messaged @petehinton about two mins before his sub and said Tanner for TGH he’s blowing.  Not exactly claiming tactical genius, but clear he was struggling, especially with a fresh Ginnelly directly up against him

    I’m sure he is, but…⬇️⬇️⬇️

…what do you want from your RB?

Need to forget old fashioned positions and look at need for the team.  It’s just a blob on a whiteboard team sheet.  What he does is more about capability and role required.  Look at Alexander-Arnold.

From very limited minutes he’s pretty much (imho) what we need “OUR right back” to be…a technical, ball-playing, passing outlet.  And he takes a wicked set-piece.

There will be times when we need a more defensive minded Tanner to play, because of tactical reasons, e.g. a skilful Left Winger or flying wingback.

Lets not close our minds after 82 minutes of football!

Don’t get the set piece thing, thought they were poor deliveries like James. Naismith has to be on them.

If you fancy a laugh have a look at his comments after Stoke’s 2-0 defeat at home to Preston.

Preston’s first goal was a penalty (I know, I know) and Neil is quoted as saying his players are adamant that it was a clear dive.

Preston winning a penalty, with a blatant dive, I know Alex, who could possibly have started them off being like that?

Despite the reaction on here afterwards we’re still the only team to get a point off them, by the way..

Glad we didn’t go for him.

I’m very much let him have this season and move on. Done a great job but think it’s better, providing the club get it right (if you trust them too) to have a fresh approach and a better style of play. He’s been here a while now and imo the football is still rather poor/boring. Deserves this season but I’d like to see someone else taking charge next season, but that’s just me

The football we played yesterday was the best since the Cotts promotion team in my view. Exciting to watch and on the front foot, albeit Swansea were awful.

  9. Think he will be a decent signing, we certainly looked better down the right hand side. He could definitely be a good option in CM, such a shame that McCrorie is out as believe he was going to be an asset going forward with his energy. Don’t understand why he kept taking corners and free kicks, they were flat Matty James type deliveries, Naismith has to be on set pieces with that wand of a left foot. Best left foot since a certain Brian Tinnion IMO.

  10. He played well yesterday but he needs to find consistency. Swansea were a very poor side and they made it fairly easy for us. We always play well against sides who don’t sit back. Which is why we need more creative players to break down stubborn defences. Not taking away anything but we need to see some better consistency.

  11. The Exiled Robin on Twitter is getting all the likes from BT on what a great window we have had. Appears to me there is a divide happening with just Nigel and the fans feeling frustrated over the window. Not sure BT should be liking fan posts as a senior employee of the club to be honest. Imagine that happening at Arsenal or Man C! It wouldn’t.

I’m just not a happy clapper! I refuse to accept second best in life, treading water isn’t fun, it’s dull. As I said before, it gets more frustrating when every game is an away game, aside from London matches I travel six hour round trips home and away to watch us. Believe me if you don’t have to do that it makes it less painful.

  13. Left a disappointing taste in the mouth the way they have announced this. Good to see him sign but to try and make out its positive news amid a very disappointing end to the window is something else! Zak actually deserved it to be announced on a different day. Anyway window is shut now, let’s get on with it.
