Very reactionary after a poor result (not just you but many others as well). £3m is peanuts for a modern striker who has just played in the World Cup. Semenyo has pace, power and is relatively new to the professional game. the lad is going to get better and better. If he was touted at £3m, half the Championship would put bids in never mind the likes of Palace. It does make me laugh though, if he scores a screamer v WBA, his value on here will be £50m again ?

Yes ROW have the fire power, but look at England's midfield. They should be able to dominate the middle of the park.

With England's World Cup dream over, who would win this Ashton Gate clash between England and the Rest of the World? England Bentley Tanner Vyner Atkinson Dasilva Wilson James Williams Pring Scott Bell Sub: Kadji ROW O'Leary Kalas Klose Naismith Sykes Massengo King Semenyo Weimann Conway Wells Sub: Bajic & Martin

40 years on … December 1982 …. Rochdale away … The 92nd days
sglosbcfc replied to sugarwray's topic in Football Chat
I was there, I think we left on the coaches from Ashton at 7.30am and got back to Bristol about midnight. I left dreaming of a run to Wembley, I returned thinking that was a day of my life I was never getting back. Massive disappointment at a time when an FA Cup tie was one of the biggest highlights of the season. -

There is a fair amount of match action captured from 1982-84 but what a shame that there is so little crowd pics/videos. I remember sitting in the Dolman in 82-83, the ground held 35,000 ish and the gates were around 5,000. At some matches you could hear Terry Cooper bellowing instructions from full back. -
Michael Knighton?

any pubs in Bristol not showing World cup games?
sglosbcfc replied to Never to the dark side's topic in Football Chat
Calling Belgium 'football mad', hardly, not exactly great journalism, Belgium has a mild interest in football, nothing more. I am sure the price of 10 Euros put people off at a time of world economic hardship as well. You can't expect the same fervour you'd get with a summer World Cup. -
I didn't think of that, someone needs to dig about and then digitalise it all, so it is not lost. That would be amazing to watch, or even read if there are newspaper interviews.

That is amazing, any stories? What a shame local tv didn't interview people in the 1960s when there would still have been a few around who could have told first hand stories.

why is it 12.30pm? Is it on the box? -
Yes, that is my understanding, even though footy fans might have watched matches at Ashton and Eastville they only supported one team. My Dad lived in Eastville and watched Rovers one week and City the next. However, he said the experiences were very different, with the Rovers it was just watching a match, with City he was desperate to see them win, and it felt much more at stake.

Love stories like that

My evening of flicking between the N Zealand v Australia Rugby League Semi, Brum v Sunderland footy and Hamilton v Ayr footy was ruined on the final whistle in Scotland. As top of the Championship Ayr players celebrated their victory with their travelling support, the disturbing sight of Gas flags in the away end greeted my eyes. I suppose it does prove one thing; they really are everyone's second favourite team. Or it could prove that their fans are willing to travel to Lanarkshire to avoid having to watch their own team ?
-
Disappointing for Chippenham, would have loved them to get Pompey, Ipswich or one of the other big boys. With Rovers record against non league teams you can't be sure they'll get through.

Hopefully not a fully functioning human being!

It's surely far too late in the day but...

Fleetwood will only bring 50 fans with them. Which is fortunate as the Gas sell out every week.....don't they? ? -
Good luck with the op Oscar, hope to see you at Ashton very soon.

Trust me I'm a pillar of society. I only get irate when City lose ?

Wouldn't need strong teachers if kids behaved at school, wouldn't need strong coppers if kids behaved on the street etc etc. Pie in the sky Just giving balance of my experience. I'm not naive enough to think it doesn't happen of course.

Just to give balance, I'm involved at Longwell Green and in both my son's and daughter's leagues 90% of games this season have been played in a great spirit. Similarly with the JPL, no issues at all. I think strong refs who know their powers are important. The young refs starting out should only ref the under 12s down in my opinion. When I ref games I have no issues because I won't accept I'll discipline. The ref has ultimate authority and can even abandon a game if he/she feels fit.

Swansea City at home match thread
sglosbcfc replied to Jerseybean's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
I think we'll take the three points. I prefer playing a team in form as opposed to the pressure of playing a team that haven't won for ages. I'm really up for this one (shame I'm not playing), this feels like a big game and despite the early kick off I think we're in for a great atmosphere. Just like matches against Plymouth, although there is a long geographical distance, it has a derby-ish feel. I know it is not as intense as Rovers or Cardiff, but there will be a big crowd, the England v Wales element, the added tension of historical dust ups off the pitch, this is one to get the blood pumping COYR. -
I don't know how many brothers Chris Sutton has, but his younger brother John played in the Scottish Premiership for a number of clubs, the biggest being Dundee.
