  1. I've heard similar stories about other clubs. An elderly relative of mine said that in the 50s when he went to Ashton Gate one week and Eastville the next, Eastville was full of fans from North and East Bristol and that was about it, Ashton on the other hand had accents from Bristol, Somerset, Bath, Wiltshire etc. A good friend who is a Sheffield Wednesday fan said it is well known that most people in Sheffield are United fans, however, Wednesday draw support from a wider geographical area including many smaller Yorkshire towns. Overseas, in Turin, Torino are known as the most popular team in the city, however, Juventus have supporters' clubs all over Italy who travel to matches.
  2. Wiemann to come on with 20 minutes left and score the winner.....please God. ?
  3. I would say MOTM tonight, did a great job in both positions.
  4. any photo? I think i know the name but a photo would confirm. RIP Rich
  5. Whitefield always had decent rugby players. Around that time, maybe a little later, John Davies joined the PE staff at the school. He was a coach at Bath rugby when they were pretty much the top club team in the Northern hemisphere. Graham Withey ex Coventry City, Rovers and a short spell at City was also a student at Whitefield in the late 70s.
  6. You can't expect Rovers to be favourites against the mighty Accrington Stanley. Let's be fair they are the third biggest side in the 10 miles between Burnley and Blackburn.
  7. I had Adidas tango balls, but not made of sponge
  8. Hanham High School Subbuteo World Cup 1990 was legendary. Understandably homework was out the window as we all focused on winning the Jules Rimet. Between us lots of the countries were represented. I brought in Jackie Charlton's Republic of Ireland team, resplendent with numbers on the back. It was Brazil who really caught the eye though in their famous yellow shirts and bright white socks. I have a feeling it was West Germany who lifted the trophy...probably won on penalties ?
  9. When he said the Gas are aiming for the Premier, I assume he means the Southern Premier. To be fair it is hard for them to compete with giants of the game like Forest Green, Morecombe and Burton!
  10. With the Queen's passing, many people have been remembering meeting her and that special occasion for them. It made me think about meeting City players over the years and some of my special memories. Probably my favourite was as a schoolboy at Ashton Gate in 1990. It was the annual awards evening and Beryl Fudge asked if I'd like to present the Player of the Year award to Bob Taylor. It would involve being sat at a table next to Bob Taylor and very close to Joe Jordan and then getting up to give Bob his trophy. It was a very special night for me and finally kept my dad quiet for a spell. He had been ribbing me since the 1989 League Cup Quarter finals at Bradford City. After City's early goal Joe Jordan had ran to the City supporters, dodging my outstretched arms to give my dad a giant hug. He still tells that story to this day 'the day Big Joe picked me out of the crowd' ? Over to you guys...
  11. I'd bunk off school to watch the City and I'm a teacher ?
  12. I hate any talk of losing, I accept the League is the priority, but City are capable of beating a decent Wycombe team even with some changes. The players coming in should be hungry and with a point to prove. Without any info on niggles etc, this would be my starting 11 for tonight - 3-4-1-2 O Leary Vyner Klose Atkinson Wilson King Massengo Pring Weimann Martin Wells Depending on how the match is going, I'd make the following changes in the 2nd half - Naismith for Atkinson Scott for Massengo Conway for Wells Tanner for Wilson or Vyner Bell for Martin This would get minutes into the legs of the players that need it and protect those that need protecting ahead of the weekend.
  13. Polite applause for COD before and after the game, but when he's performing for Cardiff out on the pitch lots of stick.
  14. Joey doesn't like making any excuses, so he only mentioned the state of the Oakwell pitch 15 times in his radio interview. The Gas, who are very similar in style to the Dutch team of the 70s, need a pristine pitch to show their real talents.
  15. As has been said a thousand times, 17350 tickets were sold for the game, therefore that is the attendance. This is what all the other clubs do as well with regards attendances. Every club has 10% minimum season ticket fans missing for run of the mill games, plus cost of living crisis, downpours, holiday time, no league wins so far etc. etc. I don't know why City fans feel the need to run down our support, we are by far the best supported team in England not to have been in the top flight in the past 42 years.
  16. I'm pretty sure after having a gate of 25,000 v Liverpool in the cup, our next home gate was less than 8,000 for a League game.
  17. 12m is nowhere near enough and some posters are claiming we'd then be able to sign a quality striker to replace him, plus a midfielder and a defender. I wouldn't consider less than £15m as it would take big money to get a replacement in.
  18. We've taken 4000 plus to the likes of Reading MK Dons and Coventry which are further distances than Burnley or Preston had to travel.
  19. Hibernian did the same thing with the East side of Edinburgh on the jersey a year ago.
  20. I would hope the club would mark his passing in some way, a photo of him in the iconic red hat before kick off v Sunderland. He has to be one of the most well known of City supporters.
  21. Very sad news, RIP Stoney. One thing you can say, he had a life well lived. 'Free cider for all' was one of his election pledges ?
