I'm going to defend Stoke fans. I used to live there and they are really passionate about their club (and to be fair, Vale fans are equally committed). It is a deprived area, but the people are genuine, friendly and will help anyone out. It is very cold, I'm not going to lie and it certainly doesn't have the appeal of Bristol - but let's be fair, few cities in England do have. As regards the N40, many clubs have/had hooligan firms, so it is a bit rich us criticising Stoke for having a pretty active and 'successful' firm.

To be fair at least they have thought of pensioners. In the Riverside stand they are doing £20 off for Senior Citizens. It will only cost them £140.

Like Thatcher paid a cockney police 'army' to beat up miners in Yorkshire, the West Midlands force loved beating up football fans.

It is very much rose tinted glasses, people remember the big games of the 1980s when there were 20,000+ v the Rovers etc and say 'there was non stop singing'. The reality was that 80% of games saw gates of 8,000 ish (very good back then mind) with some very quiet periods. That is not to slag off the City, I travelled all over the country in the 1980s and our home support was as passionate as many of the home supports. Many grounds in the early 80s still had huge capacities due to the terracing, , but were only 20% full a lot of the time. It is nonsense to say the atmosphere was lots better. it was certainly different - far fewer women, far fewer families, more threatening etc. but not loads different bar the biggest games.

The Gestapo were friendlier than the West Midlands Police.

Footballer Maddy Cusack passes away aged 27
sglosbcfc replied to shahanshahan's topic in Football Chat
Had a look on the Blades forum, a lot of desperately sad supporters. Only 27 years old, awful for her family and friends. RIP Maddy from everyone at Bristol City FC. -

Softies, floating around the arena, afraid to step on one another's toes while wearing awful attire, with a dreadful noise playing in the background...or watch Strictly (boom boom)

Their Kuwaiti multi billionaires are probably buying out City now, so the Gas can take over Ashton...unlucky da sh*t.

Darren Byfield interview
sglosbcfc replied to Never to the dark side's topic in All Things Ex Players and Managers
He did show in flashes what a good player he was during his short time with us. His celebrity girlfriend and Trundle's brought a bit of 'Wrexham' to the club also. -

Thanks Agent Wael, but don't do anything quite as outlandish as this again for some time or your cover is certain to be blown -

That is not true. For many different reasons there are different levels of commitment, from the City fan who goes to every single game home and away in every competition, to the fans that goes once a season, but still would say they are a City supporter. When the team is winning every week, or as the team goes higher in the league then fans shift their level of commitment e.g. more of the once a season brigade will go 4 or 5 times a season. Therefore, if City make the Prem and have a capacity of 23,000 home tickets, 99% of those fans will be 'City supporters' (I'm not doubting the odd ticket will go to a tourist or away fan).

Taylor Gardner-Hickman - Signing confirmed
sglosbcfc replied to CyderInACan's topic in Football Chat
There is zero chance that TGH was signed unless Pearson was keen to bring him to the club. I fully expect him to be involved on Friday night, if not starting then from the bench. -

Another big away following on the cards
sglosbcfc replied to Mr Popodopolous's topic in Football Chat
After far too many seasons of watching City in the third tier where the majority of clubs cannot even muster 1000 travelling fans, I love it in the Championship where over half the clubs are capable of filling the away end. We'd be nuts not to take the money generated by 3500 away fans. As regards any advantage, the noisy away following should inspire us to sing louder. It will be another 20,000 + crowd v WBA, let us roar on the reds. -
Sam Gilligan - Wikipedia A very impressive goalscoring record, in a Bristol City team that made a FA Cup final and were runners up in the top tier. It is interesting that he is referred to as a Bristol City fans' favourite as I cannot recall much being said/written about him. He had three brothers who all played league football north and/or south of the border. I have read that he has close relatives, still living in the Dundee area. It would be a nice touch to get them down to a home match (maybe in January close to his birthday) and mark his contribution to our rich history. Maybe some posters on here, may recall Grandfathers waxing lyrical about his exploits?
