  1. I think the single biggest mistake was taking the original TVG inquiry too lightly. I'd say they got everything else about right. Tagging the new stadium to the world cup campaign was exactly the right thing to do. Getting the then leader of the city council on the front of the evening post waving her "bring the world cup to Bristol" flag was a classic. Even the Lib Dems had to support that and that meant supporting a new stadium. I doubt it would have got through planning without the world cup carrot. They so nearly got it right.

After that particular dream died, the council ****** up more than once over legal procedures.

  2. Glos CC is being redeveloped (horribly in my opinion) so it's not strictly true to say nothing ever gets through the nimby's.

    Ummm cricket.

I bet if the mem was just rugby (as it was) it would have got through one way or another.

  3. also when was it bad to have a back up plan? unlike the gas we are able to redevlop because our owner has the money to do so, if the gas lose to trash they are stuck with the minimal forever

Not bad to have a back up plan at all, for what it's worth I think BCFC's dealings over AV are i'm afraid to say are symptomatic of how the club has been run in recent years, the biggest mistake was putting far too much trust in the Bristol council in that they could firstly be trusted and secondly even get the legal procedures correct, had SL taken a look around Bristol he would see what barren wasteland various councils in Bristol had allowed it to become, when it comes to first class venues.

  4. There is an incredible difference between AV and what the Gas are proposing.

Our Sainsbury's application was a supermarket to replace and existing supermarket, with it's only 'real' competitor at the other end of Bedminster and the gas application was to add a 4th supermarket to an area where 3 already exist, I am surprised it got as far as it did.

    PS:- **** 'em

  5. I've not read all the posts on here, so I don't know if it's been mentioned.

JET may not want to leave.

He came here because SoD built a team around him and allowed him to play how he likes.

    JET struggled in the Championship.

Maybe if he has his head on, he's only 22... what about staying with City and trying to get them promoted next season...after all SoD has given him a lifeline.

It could all go Pete tong again if he moves...better the devil you know if you get my drify.

I suppose it all depends what's written in his contract and if City want to let him go for a fee.

But it has to be agreed by both parties...

I understand where you are coming from and of course you are correct, as we know players have all of the power in transfers these days, the club has little or no power.

But far too many footballers unfortunately don't usually think that way, for far too many it's all about money, our own Mr Killkenny is testament to that, he never joined us because we are a bigger club than Leeds or that we were going to offer him a higher standard of football, he signed for us because we offered him an amount of money that Leeds simply didn't believe his skills set were commensurate with and the rest is history.

However lets hope JET is different, it would certainly add to his 'legend' if he signed a longer contract (if offered) or just said no I want to stay, but as many have said at the right price it could be win/win.

  6. Indeed it is.  Quantify your opinion then?

i'll do it for you Harry, Glos Old Boy has been over the years on this forum a quite vociferous 'happy clapper' if you like, in fact I called him the King of the happy clappers and win, lose or draw would come on here week after week and to lighten the mood and tell us perhaps things were not as bad as many of thought they were and I would say with about 10 games to go last season I noticed even his faith was slipping somewhat and I made comment about it.

and this season and I maybe wrong here but I think he feels as though he has had the shit kicked out of him by the club that he loves and I don't know about you but I genuinely find that really sad and as I said before if this club has managed that with this guy then I also genuinely believe that there is something seriously wrong at the moment with this club.

  7. What's the Steve Lansdown part about?

Has he come out and said he wants paying back?

That he will no longer invest?

He's wealthier than he's ever been so I am not sure he needs it back right now.

I think it means he has no more to give to the managers that he employs to fritter away. Because of course none of this is his fault.

  8. Unless we go on a very impressive run of form between now and January, surely we cannot afford to let JET leave? He is the focal point of everything positive we do as a team.

You have to admire SOD's honesty, but comments like this won't exactly give our support or the squad a much needed confidence boost.

Get used to it, it's going to be the most central of the 5 pillars or whatever they are this week.

  9. This has gotta be bullshit. The post have probably spun a few words around. Would be crazy for him to say that. Maybe jet saw this as a place he could stay long term and perform at. Saying that is only going to ruin his confidence

Not bullshit at all, SOD has already said in another interview he is expecting bids in january for JET and Reid, this is just laying out the carcass for the vultures to gather.
