Doing maths in my head I couldn’t work out if we’d done 40 or about to complete our 40th.

I do know I’ve been there the whole way and it is some record. You can look at many other similar size clubs but just look at our neighbours over the bridge, both Cardiff and Swansea have had top flight football and Wembley cup finals and Swansea even Europe for winning their final.

Why can’t we ever have nice things?

The joke is both were in the fourth tier more recently than us too.

    Swansea as late as 2005.

Preston are pretty dull and like us have spent a long time in the same two divisions, not quite as long as us though.

Approaching 40 years in those same two middle divisions must be close to a record

This is our 40th season spent consecutively in tiers 2 and 3.

21 seasons in tier 2 and 19 in tier 3.

We are the reincarnated version of Ipswich under Mick McCarthy

    Worse.

If you look at Ipswich's wage bill and transfer spend in McCarthy's last couple of years, it was bottom 3.

He was doing a good job keeping them midtable each season.

To prove my point Adam Webster was on £4.5pw there and we near enough trebled his wages.

I still think the manager can carry the rest of the shit show.

No, not in the modern game with how club's are set up now.

Nige couldn't do it and there aren't many old school "manager" types like him around, in any case.

Tinnion won't be appointing that type anyway. It'll be another young un that they can exercise control over. One that will be used to working in a professional environment, not "owner's son & friends" amateur hour.

    I couldn’t disagree more.

A different head-coach / manager is capable of galvanising this group.  The right one can operate without incompetence above him.

Maybe in the short term, Dave. A new man may be able to deliver a few more points and a more attractive style of football.

But medium-long term the club will not succeed with the current set-up.

In fact, even with a better man in the head coach role, I predict we are now seeing the early signs of regression which could start to get worse rather quickly unless something fundamental changes.

Honestly the Cribbs players looked rattled by the atmosphere when the players were coming out.

After a quieter opening 20 from the fans and own goal by the Cribbs keeper was the perfect opportunity for the fans to leap onto and they never looked back.

Still there now as when I left the building I saw my last train already pulling in, so a long walk back to Kingswood soon.

Still, worth it for the night, and redemption after the defeat at Cribbs earlier this season in a game with the worst refereeing performance I have ever seen between games I was at live or televised.

Georgie Kellow, he left cause they're shit!

Absolutely love to see it mate.  Best non league club in this area to follow!

Over 500 at Manor Farm tonight for their win v Cribbs.

A new competitive attendance record for the club, fair play to all involved in making that happen.

Heres hoping the two clubs meet again in the play off final!

Superb attendance and I'm guessing Luffers wasn't celebrating down the touchline as usual. Farmy army!

Farm looking OK for the play offs

I disagree with this I think. My jam is rock and roll but that doesn't mean I haven't respected and looked forward to headliners from other genres in the past.

Adele, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Jay-z, Beyonce, Kanye west, the prodigy, stormyzy, David Bowie. All artists from genres I dont like at all but at least respected and had a buzz about because they are icons from their respective genres.

This years lineup seems like a shit show in comparison but I'm old and grumpy so maybe its just I dont get the kids.🤣

OK mate, as a little taster then this is Janelle Monae on her TV debut on Letterman.

If you like rock and hip hop then you should have no problem appreciating this performance.

One for @Lew-T as well as plenty of soul and a bit of funk on show too.

    Plus her dancing!

I saw her at the Academy years ago and, like I say, one of the best all round artistic performances I've ever seen.

Fair enough. I personally wouldn’t call that list ‘elite’ is all. But you like what you like!

I don’t see many of those playing to the crowd either. @And Its Smith Dua Lipa isn’t for me, but I agree, I think she’ll be the best there.

It does come down to what you like and I've got a pretty eclectic music taste.

You strike me as someone who probably likes male rock/indie bands and so are unlikely to find an eclectic line-up of much interest.

Elite is going some isn’t it?

Not at all. Janelle Monae and Little Simz are two of the best live acts I've ever seen.

PJ Harvey is literally one of the best female artists the UK has ever produced.

SZA is great, and a huge act in the States.

LCD Soundsystem imo one of the greats bands of the 21st century so far.

And Kiwanuka also looks superb live.

    Absolutely all elite imo

Went to Noahs the other night. Missus had Fish and chips which was delicious (best, she reckoned, she had eaten other than up in Whitby), and i had a Monkfish tail on the bone. My god - so delicious and fresh. Just grilled with a garlicy pesto butter.

Hope they were not affected by the high tide yesterday. Really good joint and good value. 80 quid for 2 with drinks and nibbles/mains.

Think Noah's has to be an early contender for OTIB's restaurant of the year 🤣

I've been invited to the soft opening of this new Mexican place at the weekend. It's where Burger Joint used to be.

No they absolutely could not. Good lord.

We all have separate national teams so of course English, Scottish, Northern Irish and Scottish are nationalities in football. Sweet Jesus lad.

The only way any of those you mentioned could play for Wales under FIFA rules is by living there for 5 years. Except the Home Nations all have a gentlemen’s agreement to not pick any naturalised players.

    Alex Scott could.

I think it’s because they have Gavin and Tom, that feel they don’t need a CEO!

Yes, fair point. Though I expect partly due to Jon too.

I might be wrong here but the impression always seemed to be Warburton left because he wouldn't get on board with the footballing operation being remodelled to fit the Benham moneyball style?

Looks like Warburton did the original restructure, then became manager, and then left due to philosophical differences over a new restructure that wouldn't have given the manager a veto over potential transfers. He still had a very successful time there taking Brentford from L1 to the cusp of the Prem. His communication skills and analysis are excellent imo.

    He absolutely should be.

Given their firesale and lack of funds, what he's achieved is spectacular.

It's about the whole organisation though, so I'm not sure he'd be able to replicate the relative success here in our stellar set up.

He didn't even have much of a pre-season with the players as he came in right at the end of the summer. Very impressive.

Agree, put simply, someone like O'Neil would not be given the chance to be the best version of himself here because of the incompetent set-up. We're setting people up to fail, time and time again.

Totally agree. It's actually quite scary that Tinnion actually believes he is the right man for the job, the line of 'i have earnt this role' (or words to that effect) really did summarise how delusional the man is.

This has also got me thinking, what do we think Tinnion is on salary wise now?...Wouldn't at all surprise me if he is earning more now than he ever did earn here as a player. The money is undoubtedly a huge factor in him 'giving it a go' IMO.

Comfortably six figures. Mark Ashton was on over £300k pa and whilst I doubt they're paying Tinnion that, it may not be a million miles off.

True but an organisation really benefits when everyone in it isn’t still wearing L plates.

A balance of experienced, subject matter experts & people growing into their role is preferable.

Yes, and with that experience and nous, young and inexperienced members of the team can really flourish.

Gary O'Neil had never taken charge of a football team until 2021 and not a first team until August 2022 - 18 months ago.

He might be named Premier League manager of the season, and he did a pretty bloody good job at Bournemouth last season too.
