  1. Completely agree @JonDolman For me Kalas is a decent centre back, that on his day is one of the top defenders in the division. In a competant back line he complements the others, and provides a strong defensive unit. However in my opinion, when he is in a poor backline, he doesn't lead by example; and his own personal performance starts to suffer. We need an upgrade in both full back postions, plus another CB to probably replace Baker, Moore, Vyner & possibly Klose (Christ possibly 2 needed then). With Kalas a fixture of the backline, the last two seasons have been abject defensively. Not all his fault of course, but he is cupable at times. He is a saleable asset, one of our highest earners; and to get him to sign a new contract, it would surely take up a huge percentage of our budget for next season. We need to completely restructure our back line in reality. Tough decisions ahead for RG, and NP this summer i think. But the balance of high earners at present in the side (Wells, Kalas, Palmer, JD, Bentley) is unbalancing the budget at present.
  2. Thanks @Mr Popodopolous @Davefevs and i spoke about FFP after the FBC podcast the other day. Unlike yourself, Dave; and possibly @Hxj i'm no accountant. But i think looking at FFP as a whole the fairest way is to increase the allowances over the 3 year period. A PL club gets i believe about £90m over the 3 years of the PP upon relegation. The championship is such an uncompetitive division because of these payments in my opinion. The last team that arguably can say they got up to the PL the traditional way is perhaps Brentford (and Dave made the point, if they didn't go up last season, they would have had to change their approach). The £39m threshold is far too low. In my view it should be closer to £60m. This would allow, some of the clubs to at least compete without the metaphorical one hand tied behind their back. I don't think that is too large a figure, and would certainly still preclude certain teams trying unsuccessfully to buy themselves out of the division like Fulham, Bournemouth, Villa, and others did. When you see that as a club we are only allowed to lose £13m in a season (pro rata), and relegated clubs are going out and spending that on one player; you know that the EFL has been party to making this division an unpalatable one at times.
  3. This is the issue though. If a large number are going to try to pull a metaphorical fast one. I'm not sure how the EFL can apply a ruling; when so much is up in the air. It's not like the Derby/Reading situations that are a lot more clear cut in a way.
  4. Thanks @Mr Popodopolous. I was going to ask about this concept of covid impairment. Seems to me that a number of clubs that have published their results so far, have included large amounts under this form of proviso (Stoke and Derby spring to mind, but there will be others of course). Stoke seem very bullish that this will get through, even after the EFL passed their own regulations update on the £5m impairment. I'm confused as to how any club next year can be bought up on breaching FFP if others have just thrown caution to the wind, and come up with their own figures. If that was the case, let's intergrate our own £20m loss into our own figures, and go along the Stoke et al lines. Or am i missing something?
  5. Just confirmed this with Supporter services. Thought it was Feb 1st, and had an extra £85 next month.?
  6. I apologise if my comments came across as disrespectful. Without Jon being a fan, Steve Lansdown would never have invested in us. So by default, Jon is one of the best things to ever have happened to the club.? However he's a fan, not a chairman; and his use of language over the last few years has never been his best facet. For me the nadir, was when after a 6 week "exhaustive search" we appointed LJ's assistant; followed by his Churchillian speech describing him as a good human. Brilliant stuff.....
  7. @GrahamC well i thought he was 33, but when Ian indicated 34; i thought Oh well whats in a year. Stick with what i said about Klose being Captain next season (if he stays of course). After both our goals, Klose and Williams got called over by NP to take on/pass on instructions. I think Pearson will be aware of who are the leaders in the group.
  8. You could definitely see him at Palace, if Zaha was to move on. They've already bought Olise, and Eze from the champ; so are aware, and willing to buy the best players from this division. Lets see if they come back in for him.
  9. Plenty to choose from over the last 35 years. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Maynard's at QPR; and this one from the beast from the east Ivan Testimiranu.
  10. Thanks, now how many have we had for dissent? ??. I reckon we probably quite high up the table on yellows for that.
  11. How many of his 6 were for dissent? @Davefevs not sure there is a breakdown for this or not? But we've had a fair few bookings for dissent this season haven't we??
  12. Have to admit, i thought it was Wigan as well at their own ground (Springfield?).
  13. He was excellent yesterday I thought. That dribble back towards his own keeper; before the out pass to Bell was so composed, a real highlight. Having him, and klose at the back bought a calmness to our defending at times; and i think Kalas benefited from that as well.
  14. I think he's got 6 yellows this season. 1 in each of the last 4 games, plus Blackburn(h); and Millwall(a). I feared the worst a bit when he got booked so early(8th min, during the card tribute in the Dolman i think); but thereafter impressed me with his ability to not only not pick up a second yellow; but also keeping his gob shut for once and not getting done for dissent.
  15. Yep, agree with that. What you have with HNM is a lot of potential (we've all been saying that for the last two years of course), but actually only two assists ever. That's almost COD like figures?. When he lost the ball in injury time, after trying to wriggle through and shoot, i thought NP was going to have a heart attack; and as for that back pass in the first half. Still very much a work in progress, and for me Scott has overtaken him in terms of potential. A lot will depend on whether we can get Semenyeo to sign a new contract this summer. You can imagine his demands (via agent) have gone up significantly in the last few months. With James, and Williams hopefully coming back to fitness; and possibly a further addition; and with Benerous in the wings as well, for me if HNM doesn't sign a new contract; he can be sold without too much detrimental effect to the team. It'll be intersting to see how he develops. Could go on to great things, or spend the rest of his career in Ligue 2, or Bundesliga B. Just can't tell with him for sure at the moment.
  16. Nice one @headhunter as Dante says it was Boro.?
  17. Closer to £25-30K i reckon.
  18. Ah, the 65-70th minute bring on Taylor, Wakins, COD moments. Same subs all the time around the same period of the game. Got so boring, and predictable
  19. Interesting as to how this shows on Bristol City's Profit and loss balance sheet with regard to sponsorship/finance. I'm guessing that the greater amount of money from the deal will be accounted for by City; and then on a pro rata basis for the other teams? Or does it go straight to Bristol Sport, and won't be in the separate Bristol City accounts? @Mr Popodopolous might be better sighted on this?
  20. I remember the home game against St Albans (where i subsequently ending up living 10 years later). I was praying for the 10th goal, in the knowledge i'd probably never see the opportunity again. Coming up on nearly 30 years later, that proved to be correct.
  21. That'll be the Birmingham game on the 5th March then?
  22. Well we certainly conceded a lot less goals. Always give ourselves mountains to climb at the moment.
