My hunch is the 1st photo is the Open End, there is a lot of daylight compared to a terrace with a roof on it, it just looks right with how the shadows are and you can just see the tops of the railings behind the goal.

If correct then I should be top left somewhere as I was behind the flight of the ball when Bremner scored. I was only 12 so possibly behind someone but my Dad was 6ft+ and I can't see him either. Maybe we are just out of shot 🙁.

That's my guess also. Seems all the pics on that link are from the first game at the Gate.👍

47,000 people at a match on a midweek afternoon (when work was Mon to Fri 9 - 5 more than it is today), no wonder there was rubbish piling up on the streets, corpses left unburied, inflation of 14%, rampant unions and the worst productivity in western Europe.

Everyone of you that went to that game instead of going to work are responsible for THATCHERISM.

Great photos, Curr, by the way ....

I'm guessing said tongue in cheek...for those who don't know...

It was a time of industrial action by miners, which affected coal supplies to the power stations and, along with other contributing factors, put electricity in short supply.

Government regulations, aimed at restricting its use, demanded that all but ‘essential’ industries switched to a three-day week, while homes were regularly hit by power cuts.

Hence the 2pm kick-off time for a midweek football fixture, which normally would have been played under floodlights, and what was termed an ‘emergency issue’ of the match programme. It was priced at 7 pence and contained just 12 pages.

Why were there 2 different shirts being worn that day?

Maybe Alan Dicks in his pre- match team talk said to the players individually,"V or round neck sir?"

The warm weather kit was v neck. The long sleeved cold weather kit was round necked.

Different times back then, kits were often mismatched, old ones used, and often all slightly different.

Even the England national kit of the 70s by admiral was all over the shop. There's a documentary by Admiral that's worth watching, discusses how ' back street' kit manufacturing was back then.

yes, he's feeding IG allegedly, but who cares what he thinks?

So what's the point of listening?

And if it's true, obviously BT thinks feeding such an opinionated person is worthwhile, as people obviously listen and take on board what he thinks.

It's all a bit mindless all this itk stuff.

What difference does it make to anyone's life, to know say 24 hours before it's announced what player is signed. Why's it so important to know before? Endless rumours etc.

The players, agents, media, club officials all use platforms to get points across.

So it's not necessarily throw away comments.

Look at the traction this thread has...it obviously makes a noise so to speak.

Bless em...let em crack on playing football manager, and if people want to waste their time listening to it and making them infamous in their own kitchen...great for them.

why would they want to listen to it? There's hundreds of fan's YT channels, Twitter accounts etc for every club in the country, do you think the professionals will bother to engage?

Because they do...ermmmm BT on twitter and if suspicions are true, bit if a loose cannon.

OTIB is public, accessible to all, as is Twitter / X.  Just a different medium.

They don’t have to know the inner workings, they’re representing (in the main) a fans view of what is going on.

In my own case, the stuff I posted publicly on Twitter got noticed by the club (positively I hasten to add 😉).  That wasn’t my aim, but it was a nice bit of recognition nonetheless.

My lad was at a decent local side a couple of years ago before he went to Uni (pretty high in the pyramid) and their players used to read their forum on the way home from away trips and literally took the piss. It would be like “Smithy, you know that 25 stone lardass Dave, he reckons milk turns quicker than you”. The point being many players do read these forums and just have a laugh about it.

    Dave...Number 1 makes my point 😆👍

Perks of the job… it’s a bit like actors in that they shouldn’t read reviews (but they do), and after the guff that was served up on Saturday perhaps one or 2 of the team should be made to listen…

I'm sure they'll take on board what they say seriously. 🙈😆 It imo is why you hear from professionals that fans haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

They really aren’t, and I don’t think any fan really genuinely speaks or thinks like that. My confusion was more around your comment about how it’s “odd people put so much effort into a hobby”.

So should we all just sit inside silent and stare at a wall all day? God forbid people spend time doing what they enjoy….

The huge growth in podcasts as a platform over the last 10 years, regardless of subject matter, suggests you’re probably in a v small minority with your views - which is fine! Just like it’s fine for people to produce whatever work they wish.

You'd be surprised how many do.

I'm probably in a group of people that couldn't give a monkeys about it...but I've dared to mention it.

If you read my post...I said about doing other interests, not just football 👍

God forbid you reading that 🙈😆

It’s no different to a bloke in the pub talking who’s got a mate who’s got a mate etc etc.

if it was output that was proposing to be “official” or something that required a paid subscription then you’d have a point, but this is just 3 or 4 contributors giving their own views post match, one of whom may or may not be getting fed titbits of information on a medium that is put out for voluntary public consumption.

You miss my point...by being public it is accessible for managers, club officials players to hear. It's not a private conversation with mates.

The thought of players, managers and the like listening to it and seeing who it is so publicly makes me feel sorry for them.

Just my view...others see it differently. 👍

  8. @petehinton and @exAtyeoMax

You gave me confused looks. 😊

The point I'm making is these fans talking with such authority and opinion are giving views based on watching games and any info given out by the club.

They have no idea of the inner works and details.

If you were at work and had people giving very opinionated views without the full inside knowledge you'd be like wtf and laughing.

I’ve never looked at it like this and was considering volunteering to apply to the podcast but having read this I won’t bother!

Well how I see it...imagine speaking like it in front of a City manager, staff and the players...and what they think about it.

That thought makes my toes curl 🙈🙄😆

I guess that they are on an ego trip. Since I was a young boy, I've enjoyed "talking" with other fans of all ages in newsagents waiting for the Green In to arrive and on the train to and from Ashton Gate with eight or nine adult neighbours. But we just gave opinions on things that had happened during matches and what we'd do in the future games. It was just banter and not taken too seriously.

I know I spend too much time on here but I have so many other things to fill my day like dog walking, cooking our meals, learning another language, gardening, diy'ing and building an N gauge model railway. I'm sat here now waiting for daylight and the first dog walk on the beach. Have a happy day everyone.

I couldn't have put it better...and exactly how I feel too.

I'm passionate about City, and like you think, probably spend too much time on here in between work and doing other things.

My mind boggles how much time people put into basically a passionate hobby.

I'd get bored...variety is the spice of life.

Seems we are more like NP and have other interests, whilst others are like LJ...playing football manager and living and breathing the game.

Whatever floats their boats I guess 🤷

Each to their own, I enjoy the pod.

No one's putting them on a pedestal or thinks they're special, they're ordinary knowledgeable City fans with strong opinions. I would also class myself as having strong opinions and knowledgeable when it comes to City - after 50+ years, so I should be. The difference is they've got the gift of the gab and could talk about City on a pod all day and that certainly doesn't apply to all of us.

The pod seems to get good listening figures, ever rising last I heard, so they're obviously doing something right that appeals to a fair number of City fans.

That much of it is 'the sort of conversation you'd have with mates down the pub' is surely a good thing?

Anyway, very easy to knock it but a lot of time and effort clearly goes in to it which it's appreciated by many fans, and luckily for you watching, listening, or even commenting on it is not compulsory.

Like I said each to their own. Some people also enjoy watching people do stupid dance routines on tic tok. Same thing applies. Effort goes into that as well. If you enjoy it...so be it. 👍

But that's the whole bloody point. I set up FBC in June 2020 in the middle of lockdown because we couldn't do that!

The fact that now over 1000 people listen per episode and since we've gone on You Tube a similar number watch our "faces for radio" panel, shows there is a market for our output.

Fair enough...each to there own, whatever floats yer boat. It's just not for me...or some others it seems. Crack on

  13. I've never understood these fan podcasts.

Why do fans, want to watch and listen to other fans pretending to be television soccer pundits? It's cringe worthy..

And then put them on a pedestal like they are something special and more knowledgeable. When they obviously aren't. It's just personal views like any of us.

All seems a bit weird to me.

The forum is one thing...this however is just blokes playing at being TV pundits. It's exactly the same type of conversations you have with mates at work or down the pub.

Never understood why anyone would give it their time, and then want to comment about their views. Like these people's views are important.

    I find it very odd.

    Maybe I'm in the minority...🤷

I buy into what Manning is doing and I think after a summer turnover I think next season is going to be the best for some years

But yesterday he got pretty much everything key wrong from starters to subs to formation/tactics chasing the game

Hopefully he’ll learn a lot from it!!!

He's going to have to find more ways of playing the game.

His tactics are very basic and if organised well, easy to defend against.

Too much reliance on wide play offensively and crosses.  And trying to draw CBs outward to create space on the edge of the box to pass into.

If disciplined you just keep formation and slide with the cross field movement.

Only time we look like scoring is winning the ball from a press, an interception, or breakaway counter.

Our build up possession football that he's trying to create is sooooo obvious.

We have players that could be useful down the middle. But he chooses not to do that.

We rely on slide rule passes from wide to score.

Judging by our performances at Middlesbrough and then Southampton, I would suggest more walking football.

Teamwork, angles, passing, positioning, all without exerting themselves greatly.

Seems they took walking football literally yesterday 😆

If I’m in a generous mood I’d say it was - one game too far over recent weeks and mental and physical fatigue setting in.

A huge effort on Tuesday, the effects of that seen today.

Sharpness gone for too many players today.

I actually thought Vyner opened the ball out to McCrorie really quickly today, but others wasted several opportunities to bypass the blocker by attempting a chipped / driven a pass out to him.  A lack of bravery?  Or just mentally not seeing the pitch in-front of them.

I think others have covered the less-generous aspects!!!!

At least Manning admits he was at fault.

    Quote...

The discipline element, the emotional side, the changes I made,” Manning added, when asked what led to so much space for the opposition after half-time. “You try and impact the game, you try and chase it a little bit by making changes that don’t always help. Collectively, me included, it just wasn’t good enough.

“You could arguably change quite a few so you end up trying to have a positive impact on the game by putting people on, but it then disrupted things, we lost structure. And the actual one time that we played the pattern that we went through yesterday - Tommy has his chance; ball wide, back through the middle, if the centre-back comes across.

  17. I wonder if the Club thought to ask Joe Jordan along to be part of the meet ups with the former players of this game.

He played in both games, lives in Bristol, and obviously played for and managed us.

Shame Terry Cooper and Norman Hunter aren't both with us. Again...played in both games and for us and Terry being an absolute legend.

It would have been nice to hear Joe's view of the game.

Am I right in thinking this game was somehow ' televised' for the East end on the day, or am I mixing that up with another fixture?
