Yes he did, but what I meant was he never played for Scotland whilst with us.

Hartley (once) is the only one to do so.

Didn't Mark Wilson make a squad and play whilst with us and we were all shocked during (I believe) the McInnes era...

Can never remember if he was a loan or if it was one of those like Lansbury recently where we had them on a short term deal

  2.                     O Leary

               Vyner               Atkinson

    Sykes           Williams                   Pring

                  James             Scott

                           Weimann

                 Wells            Conway

Williams as a 'front sweeper', can't remember what game it was last season or earlier this one but he had one of his best games for us in that position. Halfway between a CB and a CDM so can bring the ball out, press but also slot into a back 3/5. Interestingly, it's what I thought Naismith was bought into do but he seems to sweep behind the other defenders as opposed to in front....

Don't want to pick Sykes, would rather have Scott out there but can't afford to lose him in midfield, I want Weimann in the position he scored 20 goals in last season so by default leaves us with Sykes... Pring deserves a shot in his more comfortable postion after some excellent showings at CB, if Atkinson isn't fit then Pring slots into CB with a desperately out of form/poor (let you decide...) JD in front.

Think it gives us enough physicality, structure and pace to give it a go on Saturday.

I understand there are ‘other’ factors at work here, re Massengo.
Han is apparently a lovely kid but ‘allegedly’ his dad is in control of his affairs and he’s a nightmare and is sucking the life out of his kid.

Think the same was said by French Media at the time he signed for us as well so would not be surprised by this at all!

Shame really, as somebody said ultimately goes down as a very poor signing which is a real shame after his initial performances. For one reason or another has never really kicked on! Loads of rumours last summer we turned down a decent offer from Watford (I think), felt at the time we should have sold and recouped something for him as never felt he would sign a new deal with us.

Will be an interesting career to follow once he leaves!

  4. Makes the Lincoln selection interesting, I was convinced it would be used to start the introduction of Bajic but to me it makes no sense now taking Max out the team even for a cup game.

Confidence and performance is high, let the lad play!

Wonder what would have been given if the incident was the other way round?Who would bet against Sheff Utd being given the penalty?

For what it's worth, my first thought was Free Kick as thought it was outside the box.

However, it does look very similar to the Swansea appeal on Saturday (not seen a replay) which also wasn't given so at least there's been an element of consistency across the 2 games.

From what I've heard and seen he's having a poor season, as another poster mentioned the most in form England defender this year has been Chris Smalling!

If they're all fit I'd be looking at starting Stones - Dier - Smalling in a back 3. There's enough pace, aerial threat and ball playing ability there and all three have shown massive defensive improvements in recent years. All have comeback from tough places and slaughtering in the media so will be plenty of mental experience there too which is massive in tournament football. (Not that I think we'll do anything).

Would have White and Maguire as back up options based on current form and with Maguire I think it's a useful player to have around! (Sure I'm missing somebody else obvious though...)

Sure we'll end up with Coady - Maguire - Mings though...

This is Max’s best spell in the team…ever.  It’s only 5 games, but at this point he appears to have grasped the nettle.  Maybe he finally is thinking like a no1?  Maybe he can genuinely see it’s his shirt, not just a stop gap.

I’m not a huge fan of his distribution, but he seems up to speed with the game in this spell.

I hope he continues this progress / form.

I've always said he's never felt like the long term answer, just waiting for that mistake and then Bentley would be back in.

However, like you said something feels a bit different this time, seems to be an extra level of confidence there. No idea what conversations have happened behind the scenes but maybe he's been told it's his spot until the World Cup so make a claim for the first game after

  8. From where I was in the Lansdown it was clear something had happened as half the stand was waving. Looked like 0 urgency from any Stewards whatsoever so found it really odd.

I was told after that the game didn't stop because it wasn't deemed a life threatening emergency. Now how anybody can decide that without a Dr being there I don't know...

There did seem to be some fisticuffs after, was this one of the guys who went on the pitch? Was hard to tell from the other side.

Hope everybody involved makes a full recovery.

  9. I'm fortunate to have a friend who works in football in quite a Senior Level albeit at another club, he was telling me he was down here a short while ago to watch an U23 game but also have a tour around the HPC.

Kalas was in there doing some Rehab work and as he was introduced Kalas stood up, basically squared up to him and before shaking his hand put his head in really close and just sniffed him... He then said 'very good' before shaking his hand, turning round to get back to what he was doing but not before pulling up his shorts so high it resembled a Mankini by all accounts. The member of staff with him was in tears of laughter but also said he got off lightly by all accounts...

Certainly sounds like a character and one I think we will miss around the football club next season on and off the pitch

  10. I think the only issue with playing Max is he's not seen as the Long Term answer.

Just feels like we're waiting for him to make a mistake and then Bentley will be back in, it's like we're in a cycle and need to find a way to break out of it.

The fact that Max was preferred over Bajic last night was interesting as I thought he was seen as a long term answer. (Apologies if injured again) Didn't feel, to me, like Bentley's form justified him being dropped so personally felt like it could have waited until Bajic was fully fit and firmly seen as Number 2, he could then have been picked if/when Bentley's form did drop and we might finally be out of the Bentley/O'Leary loop.

Will be really interested to see who starts the Lincoln game in a few weeks...

I'm sure we'd be interested in signing Ronaldo and Messi to spearhead our drive to the Prem.  About the same likelihood of the interest going both ways though!  Gregor MacGregorface must be getting paid by the click.....

Out of interest, why wouldn't Tinns potentially be interested in having a chat?

I wouldn't want to lose him and whilst FGR are a much smaller club this would definitely be a more senior role than he has here and if he wanted to deviate away from Academies and back to Senior Team decisions can see this being a very enticing opportunity.

There's the obvious caveat that Vince seems like quite a difficult (trying to be polite) character but depending on Tinns ambitions can potentially open up many doors for him should he go there and succeed.

I don't think it will happen, but would be amazed if Tinns didn't take a look if there's genuine interest,

  12. Think the ref went with the 'safe call' for the handball as, like with every other decision Saturday, he couldn't make up his mind either way. I think based on the rules it was probably correct and not handball just based on the subsequent pictures I've seen since. It makes me laugh though, if we treat the line as 'in the box' and instead of handball Dieng fouled Wells in the exact same spot no way would the referee have backed himself to give a penalty. Would have again reverted to the safe call of Free Kick on the edge...

The Linesman Lansdown Stand was fantastically incompetent, constantly 5-10 yards behind play. The 2nd goal, the player looked a long way offside from the initial long ball from the keeper. Sadly I haven't seen a decent camera angle yet to see if that was the case however the linesman would never have known as he was stood on the halfway line in his own world...

My final point on this, Peterborough really do love the sound of their own voice in the media, don’t they?

Talk from them at the time was “3 Championship clubs after him” “bids of £2.5m, £3m”.

Sell him for £1.8m in the end, so their profit on this deal was only actually £640k.

To be fair though it does seem to work, I don't think Szmodics is a £1.8m player but because of the media image of 'Peterborough have great but expensive players' it instantly seems to add 10-15% on the price.

Hoping we can do similar, whilst I'd rather not sell our young players if we can continue the good media image of producing/having good players that are sold for a premium such as Kelly, Webster, Bryan, Reid etc. then gives us potential to add 10-15% as well. I think we are already seeing this a bit with Semenyo with the alleged asking price of £20m +

    Sounds upbeat.

Loved this as always, question from me as we've heard it from all the Players, but is this the first time that Nige has mentioned the 'P' word as a genuine target...?

The fact that we are 10 games in and this sort of talk is still being banded about is really positive. If he didn't believe it was achievable he's got enough experience not to even mention it so the fact that it's still being discussed is great!

Very well measured and careful as always with his answers and provided great insight to the conversations had with various countries and players fitness which was interesting to hear!

Phwoarrrrr we have had some shit play for us haven’t we ?

To be fair to Saborio I remember him being quite a decent foil for Maynard, hard working and did a lot of the dirty work up top.

Having had a quick look at Wikipedia (yes I know...) he seems to have had a really good scoring record both before and after us albeit predominantly in Switzerland and USA.

Was definitely better for us before he cut his hair though...

It's the one just on half time, after 3-55 on the YouTube highlights. Each time I watch it it gets worse, the keeper only has eyes for TC.

Not sure I agree with that, looks to me like Conway's momentum has taken him into the keeper? Wouldn't say there was much of a forward momentum from the keeper at all so looks to me just like an accidental collision and no foul either way.

Watching it back, I actually think Conway has bottled it slightly, taken his eyes off the ball and subsequently missed a golden chance! Potentially a big moment in the game!

I thought Sykes went down too easily but seen them given certainly.

Actually think Tinnion summed it up perfectly, if it's given for you you'd agree and if it was given against you it would be soft!

I thought it was a pen personally, but don't look at it in the same way as some of the other ones we've been turned down over the last 18 months or so. If there was VAR I don't think they would have overturned it

Whilst I understand the above, how many coaches do we have though?  It seems like a new one gets appointed every month or two.

I'm not sure its any more than previously just we are hearing about it a lot more and the club is a lot more open. It also feels like we are targeting 'up and coming' coaches who I imagine would be on a significantly lower contract than what we would have dished out previously and have abandoned the 'jobs for boys/family' approach. Yes, ex players are leading a number of roles but these individuals have been handpicked and worked for these roles, not just given them

It feels like we have a really good blend of experience and youth both on and off the pitch right now and there is a real togetherness and energy at the club. I would say there's been noticeable improvements in individuals performances and abilities over the last 12 months so by all means get as many coaches as you want!

I found the flashing pitchside adverts so bright it was almost painful last night. It seemed to tone down later in the game, but early on it was a strain to see the ball when it was on the ground. Surely this must be a distraction to players and officials as well

Agreed, first 30 minutes last night were the worst it has been for a long time from my view in lower Lansdown

  20. I think Naismith has been great, whilst the mistakes our frustrating and have cost us I think this is part of the rollercoaster and something we need to accept. As others have said I think the positives outweigh the negatives in terms of our approach and I'm hoping the more he plays that role the less mistakes get made throughout the course of the season.

I must say as well, I have been absolutely blown away by Atkinson this season, I liked him a lot last year  but he is a completely different animal right now! Genuinely think we are a fit and fighting Kalas away from having a Top 6 defence. If we can somehow keep Williams fit and playing every other game providing that cover and bite in midfield with the attacking options we have we could genuinely cause an upset this season and be there or thereabouts for top 6. Would need a lot of luck with injuries and lots of players somehow keeping form throughout the season but I'm genuinely excited.

Pearson gets some stick at times, whilst I don't agree with it I can sometimes see why, but the building blocks he's put in place since coming and the work that has been done clearing deadwood has put us in such a strong position on the pitch! Even just looking at the options on the bench last night and could make a case for most of them starting which can only be a good thing!

Hoping Kal stays fit as think he's crucial to all this

  21. Anybody who wants to know and see what kind of characters and squad we have needs to watch the Kane Wilson interview from last night, have to say that did excite me!

Something does feel different this time, the real tests are yet to come and as others have mentioned there will be lows that need reacting to and that will either bring us back down to Earth or raise the enthusiasm!

Do I think we will get promoted this year? No.

Do I think we could have a Team and group of individuals to get behind, get excited by and feel proud? Absolutely!

I watched him versus Hull in EFL Cup and thought he looked decent, decent touch, good movement, agressive in the press.

Yeah I can remember watching that and thinking we had a real player there, IIRC Taylor Moore also played really well against prem opposition that night next to Flint.

Can remember coming away really positive after that game, think Tomlin dropped an incredible 20 minute cameo too.

For once, I actually think this clarifies the position.  It’ll never be black and white, but trying to block a pass or tackle an opponent and inadvertently deflecting it to a player in an offside position, should still be offside, even though the article above confuses itself with the scenarios used.

How does this work for goalkeepers?

Having scanned the above there is no mention of them at all, assuming it will still be offside if somebody shoots, keeper saves and rebounds to somebody who was offside when the initial shot was hit?

But in that same scenario, if it hits a defender and not the keeper e.g. goal line clearance it would then become onside...?
