This was from a Coventry City fan after the Wolves game....food for thought.

In fairness Robins has built it over 7 years…. 7 years of pretty much non-stop success, they’ve been progressing all the time and there would have been little or no reason to consider Robins’ position.

I bet he’s not had many 5 defeat in 6 games runs or left the fans bored senseless on a regular basis.

Money is too tight to mention round these parts so when we do spend it, we have to spend it wisely.  With the blessing of hindsight can we really say we are where we need to be recruitment wise?  To spend £10m on the below, is it good enough?

    Knight - £2m

    McCrorie - £2m

    Gardner-Hickman - £1.5m

    Mehmeti.- £1m

    Dickie - £800k

    Cornick - £500k

Twine, Mebude, Stokes, Murphy - all signed for short or long term - circa £1-1.5m spent I’d guess.

Seems a mixed bag at best to me

Another (frightening) way of looking at it would be…. What’s that £10m worth today? How many have increased in value? How many have made no progress? How many are worth less? I’d suggest it’s not money well spent. The “trading” ain’t going well.

We'd be foolish to sack a manager and appoint a new one so quickly. Next appointment needs to be handled well and definitely not be the "up and coming" option. We need someome with experience at this level, someone who has good contacts so they can draw in better quality players and mostly, someone who can adapt to  changing situations and isn't steadfast in sticking to one plan.

There’s a short term option - Warnock. Not everyone’s cup of tea but he’d get some passion back into the players and stop them playing with fear and get them understanding their jobs… it’s football not rocket science despite LM’s bumbling nonsense.
Then we could breath a sigh of relief and plan for the summer but, in my opinion, the rot needs to stop now.

    Me too.
wouldn't mind seeing what McCrorie can do in midfield.

I’m pretty much with you, my concern is if we ditch him now who’s going to replace him?,  and more importantly that person is going to be chosen by the same people that chose Manning. It’s a horrible situation we’re in and I really can’t see a way out of it.

We’ve some how got to hope that the board don’t double down on their stupid strategy.  This group of players and this club needs a strong manager, not an up and coming head coach. That’s the only way we’ve ever been successful. So…. manning out and LJ in is my prediction (heaven help us!!!)

Tbh, I feel like I’m the minority, I think a load still think we should give him the summer….but seeing some of the posts above maybe not.

When I went on SOTC the other week, I genuinely think Jon Rae was shocked that I’d gone Manning out, but I do sense more moving to this view.

It’s horrible really.  I just want City to do well.  Ideally I’d only need to worry about what goes on on the pitch. But it seems bigger than that.

But you stick with your view.  You might be the sane one!

He showed today that he learned nothing from last week.

Portrays himself as intelligent. I’m increasingly unsure. He’s, no doubt, well read on coaching but where’s the emotional intelligence and where’s the passion, the love of the game for the game…. Not the wretched process.

100%. This is Pulis levels of intense dislike (didn’t want to say hate)

I’ve not been a fan of the Lansdowns for a good while now, but surely even SL with his antipathy towards the fanbase, can see this situation needs bringing to a close.

Root cause of this is the Lansdowns…. However Manning is doing himself no favours. No rapport with the fans and not playing a brand of football us fans want or understand. He needs to change dramatically or we (fans) will win, eventually.

Yeah fair point. The away support booing/mocking today concerns me as it's the absolute hardcore turning against the current situation.

To expand on my original post further . I am furious at JL and Tinnion and think how they handled the Pearson situation.

I'd normally give a manger 18 months before judging them too much but given the circumstances i was happy to pretty much write off this season and then judge manning from game 1.  FWIW I would have been getting v nervy if we had not beaten swansea and might have started thinking about mannings position more deeply. However, I think we will be safe so figure give manning the summer as it isnt his fault how he was appointed...

Also FWIW I am very sceptical about some of his decisions,  but again prepared to give him the summer to work things out and be in the top 10 minimum (JL and BTs minimum expectation)

Your view is the correct approach but I’ve a horrible feeling this won’t work out regardless. I’d pull the trigger now. One of my biggest concerns is that he’s building no rapport with the fan base and being stubborn beyond all belief.

This is Bristol City and he must produce something Bristol City supporters want and understand…. if he doesn’t flex there will be only one winner.

If anyone out there has a vacancy going for circa £1.5m salary over the next three and a half years and is prepared to let me **** up their business to start with whilst I’m learning as long as I’m “doing my best” by all means drop me a DM…………

I might have something for you but can you fit I with the business’s blame culture and charisma-free policy?

They were mixed under Manning but they seem to be mainly heading downwards now sadly.

More bad than good and increasingly so.

Under NP this season most weeks we looked cohesive. Under Manning of late not particularly. Had McCrorie not hit side netting v QPR maybe but really things are trending badly.

And under Pearson I never felt players were hiding, confused, going missing. I can’t say that now.

Im not going to Leicester game as im away ( thankfully 😂 ) but i’ll do the maths for you already - 6 from 7!

We’ve got enough time to get a new manager in before Leicester.
    But won’t.
And I meant manager not another bloody trainee head coach just out of head coach school.

Yep, it really is. I often find myself nodding along to your posts and this one is no different.

I absolutely love this football club but I was chatting to some mates the other day and saying how utterly pointless we must look to fans of other clubs. We’ll most likely stay up this season and finish somewhere towards bottom of the middle third of the league for the umpteenth year in a row. We achieve nothing tangible at this level and, eventually, we have a dreadful season and end up in division 3 having to rebuild again. It feels like that’s exactly what is going to happen now. I’ve been supporting for 41 years and it’s always been the same.

Yes, it has been worse. And yes, there are way worse owners out there than the ones we currently have. But it could also be so, so much better and it’s so depressing to see us falling into this doom spiral yet again with nobody at the club who will a clue how to run the club to change things for the better.

    Heavy sigh.

    This is it! Well said.

I keep meaning to double check but I think no club has spent longer, uninterrupted, in the middle to divisions than City.
40+ years - it’s almost the definition of a lack of ambition.

it could be worse, I was there in 82… it was worse but the football was better, things got better and ultimately we only ended up there because of gambles made in the top flight…. But at least we were there to gamble… stuff was happening, good and bad but we’ve been stagnant for too long. Sure no one watches football enjoying nothing happening? Effectively the same season over and over again.

Cocemreu aren't the best exsmll3, nriejr are Ipswich as both had quite different circs but do agree with the general point.

Not spending more of the Scott money then the almighty Clustrrfuck in the Autumn sealed it for me- SL has run his race and his son plus Tinnion are Laurel And Hardy, Chuckle Brothers etc but without the laughs.

Lansdown is now running it on a shoestring budget (by football standards) while showing no signs of getting out…. How many years has he talked about it?

Just listening to Manning and apparently the game plan was right . There was nothing in the game we controlled long spells , just a couple of unforced errors . The bloke is delusional

I am genuinely worried that he gets the summer and the whole budget  .

He has already managed to coach this bunch backwards , the thought of him bringing in more of his style players is really quite scary .

Wasn’t down to the tactics he also said…. It’s crazy, I’ve never known a manager so full of himself and so willing to throw his team under the bus.

  15. No no no it’s all wrong, in modern football you don’t reinvest in players like Ellis Simms and back an experienced manager.
What you do is create a nest egg and employ a boring rookie….. it’s the pathway to Tinnion-land AKA League One.
