I was reading all about how you can see the improvement in players and tactics from so many recently.

    Utter nonsense.

Manning himself said players have to want to learn after the latest shit show today. Maybe they don’t want to learn from him, regardless of the pretend improvements I can’t see!

Agree with this. I don’t get the sense these players are bought into Manning’s way of doing things. That’s not to say they’re not working / trying but at times the body language doesn’t seem great and they don’t really seem quite so “teamy”.

As for players who he’s improved…. Not sure I can see anyone. Williams is finally fit and playing for a contract/move.

Bell and Conway going backwards. TGH also not looking the player he was.

O’Leary always looks decent to me but has been outstanding recently. That’s not down to coaching, just the sheer amount of shot stopping practice he’s getting!

Not heard the interview but this is disappointing to read. We were not at the races today, with no urgency whatsoever. The last two games were both difficult to watch and I’ve always felt that sort of thing falls on the manager.

Agree and I don’t remember him slagging off his own players after the Southampton.
A touch of the Johnsons? “I” when we win “they” when we lose….

I don't think he's up to the job but I actually feel a bit sorry for him...we came calling and he wasn't going to turn us down was he ? Way out of his depth and very inexperienced...such a bizarre appointment.

He’s a fully grown adult. He could have chosen to stay at Oxford and continue to learn. He chose to dump on Oxford and take the fast tack, I’d predict, to an LJ managerial trajectory.

I was against Pearson sacking at the time but realised that’s the industry we’re in. I was delighted with Manning and still am, criticising Manning for the results Pearson probably would’ve got in the last two. That’s fickle

Brought to improve things. He hasn’t.

These poll results are embarrassing 😂😂 most fickle fanbase in the league

Fickle? How many were 1) crying out for Pearson to be sacked? 2) wanted Manning as manager?

Most fans have been lumbered with a situation they didn’t want.

  6. Sack.

We’re confusing two arguments on this thread. SL, JL, BT are deluded with no track record in successful football decision making. Ideally they’d all go in my opinion.  This club needs a re-boot.

However the question is should Manning be sacked and, well, he took the job… the remit (however deluded) was clear… get this top-end championship squad performing like a top-end championship squad. If he thought that wasn’t achievable he shouldn’t have taken the role.

Is he achieving that clear objective today? No. Do I think he will by the end of the season - no. Does he have the maturity and experience to find a way to change his way or compromise to improve things? From what I’ve seen - no way. Are there fundamental problems at this football club and is Manning the man to stand up to the hierarchy and get them sorted? No…. He knows what happens to people who challenge the leadership here (and still took the job!).
Is his brand of football modern? Yes. Exciting? No. Unique? No…. It’s copying flavour of the month without creativity.

Bottom line for me, have I enjoyed watching us on his watch - no.  If we’re a run of the mill championship club… let’s at least make it enjoyable.

This season mid table is acceptable.
next season top 10, AT LEAST and then a push for the play offs the next season.

Or to paraphrase The Who…. “Meet the new three-year-plan, the same as the old three-year-plan”.

Would be great if that happened but 3x 14th place finishes seems more likely to me!

The commnication around the Cardiff kick off time was certainly a triumph....

My impeccable sources tell me that Tinnion told Ian Gay but he forgot to pass it on…

Has stood down as Palace manager - better off out of it, enjoy your retirement Roy

    Agree.
This has been awfully handled by Palace… I don’t think that even City would make such an undignified mess of getting rid of a manager… or would we/have we?

I actually thought the three subs killed what momentum we’d built up, had a few corners, crowd was lifting, then the subs kind of killed it. Bad day at office all round tbf

This! We were having our best spell and finally getting going…. But the subs seem to be made almost robotically regardless of the match situation.

Brought a tear to the eye to see AD out there.

Name the South Stand after him whilst he’s still with us, bless him.

Someone by me said at HT we should have brought Tom Ritchie on (ok, it actually was me).

Presumably he’ll have to get in line behind the “fitting tribute” we were promised for Terry Cooper (an equally important manager in our club’s history and shamefully ignored by the current hierarchy).

  12. It’s just become an extension of the BS publicity/spin machine.
Twentyman was the only person to challenge club employees.
Surely Geoff would have asked Tinnion to reflect on “top end championship squad” and the success or otherwise of the managerial change. Obviously Tinnion wouldn’t have answered, stormed out of the studio never to return… until we make the premier league…. Or until he was next invited (whichever comes quicker).

  13. We won’t get relegated but as others have said, finishing lower than last season and taken few points will be a massive backward step and make the managerial change seem even more baffling (if that’s possible!).
Should we go out of the cup, we’ll be on a stinking run with a long series of dead-rubbers ahead. If that’s the case then it would be nice to see some attacking, entertaining football and a few kids given their chance… what do you reckon are the chances of that happening?

To be honest, I don’t like the phrase and LM is a bit “buzzword bingo” but all I think it is would be the modern equivalent of “It’s still nil nil lads” - play your game and don’t get overly drawn into the situation.

Not to my taste but understand what he means.

As for whether LM has made us more passive/regressed us that’s a whole wider conversation….

My concern is that everything is “textbook” rule-based football. Do the players have the freedom to break those rules? To take risks? Does the manager have the creativity to break or bend his own way of doing it?
LM keeps talking “bravery”… personally,  I havens seen much of it.

A quick Google gives me this answer......

Quadriceps strains are typically caused by physical activity, although they can also occur if an object slams into the thigh. Athletes and runners are especially prone to quadriceps strains, although they can happen to anyone who is playing a sport, exercising in the gym, or simply stretching their legs.

Perhaps JL could buy some cotton wool for the medical team to wrap the players in?

JL will sack Manning for not giving them enough time off.

  16. So we’ve planned and celebrated the 30 year anniversary of a third round win over the worst Liverpool team in generations…. But…. Still no “fitting tribute” to Terry Cooper, as promised at the time of his passing. Tinpot, clueless and classless are the hierarchy running “our” club.

Lot comments I often read and hear is that Max is not a championship standard keeper.

Do not know how the level is being set but I would rather have Max between the sticks than that clown Man Ure signed for 43 Million Andre Onana.

Total showman and calamity slmost every game. what would Max be replaced by that would be an upgrade.
Max is pretty solid, every keeper will make odd mistake

I think the fact that goalkeeping has changed makes it confusing. Max seems to me a very modern style keeper. Commanding your box and claiming crosses now seems far less important than the ability to play the ball, start moves and be quick about it.
I like him and never understand all the fuss. Realistically there’s no reason he shouldn’t be our keeper for many years to come.
I’m happy to go with Shay Given’s view!
