  1. Williams didn’t have a great game but more worryingly is the amount of moaning arguing, heads-down out there.  I counted those “behaviours” variously from: Dickie, Roberts, Williams, Sykes, Conway.
It doesn’t appear a happy or fully committed camp. At best they are very confused about their roles.

    Just watched it.

Through blocking, pulling, etc, etc, he’s got Joe off balance so that he can’t jump / defend it.  I don’t think it’s him being weak per-se.

Its poor, and its cost us a goal but I see it as “shit happens”.  That’s sounds like I’m sitting on the fence, but I think as a collective it’s a bad goal.  We know the area they want to hit, can we block that better…at the expense of marking?

I’d also question why Williams was decided to be the best man to mark their (significantly taller) top scorer at a corner.

  3. No there’s no hope for Manning.

You can simplify this even further. When we appoint managers/manager-style characters they tend to do well here…. as you’ve listed.
When we appoint young-up-and-coming or head coach types it goes wrong: LM, LJ, SOD, DMc, BT, DH…. There are probably more and you can take the manager v coach story right back to the days of Cooper, Jordan and then appointing a coach with no managerial experience (Lumsden)… why has the club not learnt?

Being serious for a moment, Gary Rowett to the end of the season anyone? At least he knows this division and can’t possibly be any worse than an out of his depth Manning.

    Good suggestion.
strong character, knows what he’s doing, would show Tinnion up for what he is…. So, sadly, there’s 3 reasons he won’t get a job here.

He looks like a rabbit in the headlights doesn't he. Dear oh dear what what a truly horrendous appointment.

Trouble is, he’s not even likeable is he?
Monotone, bland, robotic and lacking in personality are one thing… he may not be able to change but a bit of humility wouldn’t go a miss. Would it kill him to apologise to us supporters for that no-show? He genuinely thinks this is nothing to do with him. He’s a theorist, it’s learnt from books and courses but he’s showing no ability to adapt to situations, there is zero creativity on the pitch or in his decision making.

SL has pretty much zero interest in Bristol City now and only slightly more in the rugby. He actually wants out without losing an enormous amount of money. His major interest now is the environmental and ecological projects in Southern Africa (Botswana and Mozambique). Bristol City men’s and women’s teams are just a headache he probably feels he could do without.

He’s bought a dud, is well outside the warranty period, he’s maintained it but not improved it but wants his money back… he’s either left in this limbo position or going to have to take a financial hit.

To be fair in his scintillating cameo against QPR I said to my dad ‘this lad just needs to ‘learn tempo/la pausa’

Really reminded me of Rafa Leao and Vinicius Jr.

Good init, the internet. Lots of takes to be digested.

Once he’s learned “tempo/la pausa” I assume his loan will be cancelled and he’ll be transferred to Strictly Come Dancing.

It’s a bit of “just as well”.

Assumedly he can still play in the youth cup games and it’s clear he’s not touching the first team so better he has football than not.

But by God, the optics of appointing a coach who has a reputation for developing youth jettisoning youth players who have been around the first team when we have nothing to play for are pretty damning.

Edit - and now we’re out of the busy schedule wouldn’t it be sensible to take more time to see the young players in training as well..

Haha LM is showing no signs of giving youth a chance. I’d rather see Yeboah starting than Mehmeti… the very worst you’d have is zero end product -as now.

If I was SL I’d be worried about where my next nest egg booster is coming from.

The pathway working wonders I see...otoh tokenism isn't good but did think he was a bright spark, energetic late on off the bench.

    Good luck to Ephraim anyway.

The pathway is working fine. I will give you directions… head north to Man City bump into a man called Liam. Fail. Head east to Belgium. Fail. Then follow the path to Bristol City… bump into a man called Liam and be no better than what’s there already but stop them wandering up the path.

Get Geoff to replace Manming? Solve two issues at once.

A strong character who knows the game and knows what he’s doing… it’ll end badly.

Sorry for late reply, but how do you know this was the remit? Were you in the room with them when he was told this during the recruitment process? Just because JL and BT fed us fans a load of tripe, doesn't mean they said the same to LM.

I’ve no idea what was said at interview but I sure as hell wouldn’t take a job where my boss was telling me one message and telling my customers a very different one that didn’t tie up and ran the risk of throwing me under the bus.

BT/JL clearly stated to us customers that this was a top-end championship squad and things should be better NOW.  If Manning didn’t agree with this, he should not have taken the job.

It is indeed a gamble.  As above it was a bit “not my fault”.  No manager is perfect, and a lot will depend on how the relationship has been built.

Agree, “I” when we win, “they” when we lose is a bad habit for manager to get into.

Your point above about a confused game plan is well made.

I’m also a little tired LM saying he’s “overloaded” the players with info…. If you’re aware you’ve done that…. Stop bloody doing it!!!!

18 minutes ago, Ashton Fete said:

Exactly that. Not even a hint of him getting selection or tactics wrong and trying to shield the players.

He also said post match “I can’t control what fans think” and that again is just a naive comment as we will react to his pre and post match comments so actually you can to a degree.

Lets hope he’s learnt a lot from the last 2 weeks in terms of selection, tactics and communications as for me he’s got them all badly wrong

Agree. Naive is definitely the word!

Saturdays game will be very telling after LM being so critical of the players after Sheff Weds which I personally didn’t like as he puts it all on them without even a hint of his own self reflection on his selections/tactics

I do wonder once we are mathematically safe whether we’ll see more of his thinking for next season and the OOC players being on the bench at best

I tried to buy into him with the obvious great performances but the doubt now is very loud and clear after more negative performances than positive

But beat Cardiff and Swansea back to back and optimism returns!

His criticism of the players is a massive gamble. Only two weeks after those same players were outstanding against Southampton…. Should the players not like what he’s said, it’ll end badly.

So you haven't enjoyed Hull, Middlesbrough twice, Southampton, Watford and Coventry away?

Yes of course but you said “more [enjoyable] than under Pearson”. I enjoyed some games under Pearson, some under Manning. Preferred football under Pearson and felt it was slowly coming together.
You’ll also have read that I said that I respected your opinion…. By definition this is about personal preference.

Firstly would you be keen to invest and work with the Lansdowns , but have no voice

No. That’s not really the point I was making though…. Why is nothing happening. I imagine in the last 10 years the majority of clubs at our level have seen a shift in ownership of sone sort. Why can SL not make it happen?
my view is that either SL has no interest in selling or that anyone getting close to investing/buying has been put off by the BS model.

    This.

His last few interviews have consisted of him telling us how grateful we should be that he puts money in, a total lack of knowledge about the football industry & a refusal to acknowledge any mistake he’s ever made (the role of Mark Ashton, his indulgence of LJ, the ridiculous Holden appointment for starters).

Who in their right mind wants to hear more nonsense like this?

Obvious that he’s not really interested anymore & has handled over to his mediocre son.

Agree, also how many years has he been claiming to be “looking for investment”? Are we really that unattractive that no one will invest? Is he talking out of his arse and not actually seeking investment? Or does the stupid Bristol Sport folly make investment impossible?
