  1. The points dropped by Leeds that day helped ensure Arsenal and not Leeds were League Champions that season. The Leeds fans rioted and their first few home games next season had to be played at least 10 miles away from Leeds. Referee Ray Tinkler and his Linesmen continued to officiate at matches.
  2. Correct; "Prices should not be more than £20.00 for the top level and slightly lower for the lower divisions". The clubs converted terracing to seating and the improvements had to be paid for plus, seats= lower capacity, therefore admission had to increase for clubs to maintain their income level.
  3. Yet, today if someone reported to Jurgen Klopp "There's a talented 19 year old playing for Scunthorpe, we really must sign him". They'd never be asked to scout potential players again.
  4. When Lord Chief Justice Taylor compiled his report, who set his terms of reference for his recommendations? Apparently he was charged not only with making football grounds safer and to introduce "the gentryfication of the game". In other words get rid of standing people singing & shouting and replace them with neat rows of seated spectators who will merely applaud politely at the final whistle. The adverts during televised matches would be for beer, cigarettes(before being banned) and fast cars etc. Now the adverts will be for investment plans and tampons. Further; why only football grounds? At Cricket and Rugby grounds, you can still stand with a beer in your hand. Is it because they are "establishment" sports? Really annoying if a stadium is used by different sports with the same Stewards monitoring the spectators.
  5. Yep; progress as far as poss' That will raise the club's profile and bring in extra revenue.
  6. Thinking back there was THAT game at Coventry where ko was delayed 15 minutes to get everyone in. The two teams then knew what was required of them.
  7. Nat League South table this morning; Yeovil remain 10 points clear at the top, but Bath down to 6th, Torquay drop to 8th and out of the play off places. WSM 18th and Taunton 19th.
  8. On the last day of the season, to ensure no one goes into a game knowing their required result, all games kick off simultaneously. If one crucial game had, due to " a medical emergency", a ten minute stoppage in the first half, would that be relayed around the country so that the second half of all games would be delayed by ten minutes?
  9. And next month is 50th of that Tuesday afternoon at Leeds.
  10. Norwich fans ain't happy with their own players or fellow supporters. https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/155066-todays-the-day-the-joy-was-finally/ and completely for now, sucked out of this great club. Nigh on 20 thousand supporters there for an unfashionable but potentially exciting tie against a mid table league 1 side. Starting with our main strikers, our best defender and club captain and defenders who have been involved enough this season. In fact other than Forshaw virtually every player in that starting line up had previously started games recently. It was a strong line up. The ground is full of new young supporters, probably here for the first time this season, excited at a potentially positive attacking display by city and what do we end up? An abjectly poor, lethargically mind numbing, painfully disjointed and frankly tediously boring 1-1 drab 90 minutes of uninspiring pointlessly ineffective football. Hang your heads in shame Norwich senior management. The coaching/tactics/in game management/will to win attitude/forward fast integrated play/aggression etc etc etc, is missing in action yet again. Enough is enough. Sort it out NCFC, this is simply not acceptable, otherwise I strongly suspect you will reap the whirlwind that is coming! Even the diehard ‘ happy clappers ‘ on here are keeping well below the parapet tonight.
  11. Oh dear; they had players out injured and we were a bunch of bruisers. https://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=187728&start=960 When you are in the last 16 of the Europa, top 6 and going for top 5 in the second half, and the opponent is a bunch of bruisers out to hurt you, you are not likely to "stand up" - and rightly so. I'd be very surprised if the management instruction was not to get involved in tat for tat and risk getting seriously injured. The fundamental problem was our thin squad. And given our thin squad, we should have protected them by sitting senior players out. But if Moyes had done that, he'd be battered. It'd always been a risk to play our best eleven of fourteen trusted players against a bruiser of a opponent in a cup tie. Other posts are more even handed. Well done, Bristol. No fear football. Came out fighting and exposed us as a bunch of prima donnas. Even Mad Vlad wasn't up for the fight! Replay should be tasty. Bristol City should have won they were far better.
  12. A complete team performance and you could clearly hear the fans on that link. Well done to all.
  13. Both pass and finish were top class. Shut that transfer window now.
  14. Listening to the pundits on SSN saying how this will probably be the last season for cup replays and citing fixture congestion. It was apparent to me that the complaining clubs were involved with the Champions League (which will be expanded next season, the World Club Championship (I remember when it was the European champions v their South American counterparts) and their mid winter breaks. So another tradition and possible money raiser for the lesser teams should be scrapped simply to help a handful of top teams?
  15. For two years I was stationed at RAF Coltishall, 10 miles North of Norwich. Going home for the weekend was a major undertaking. Had to leave Bristol 3.00pm Sunday to get back to Coltishall in time.
  16. Fifty years ago; Don Gillies, Gerry Gow, who came from Scots non league, Billy Menmuir and the others; their careers did OK at the gate.
  17. Now we must ready ourselves for some Gas Logic. Norwich won at AG. Rovers drew with Norwich; therefore Rovers must be better than City. As I said, Gas Logic. e
  18. That's enough about their women, now for a description of their menfolk.
  19. One team in white shorts, the other in black.
  20. 44 years ago in the 3rd round; Rover 1 Villa 3. City 6 Derby 2. Both at home for a 3.0-0pm ko. Odd thing about the City result, Derby had visited AG in the league just a few weeks before and won 2-0. Also that day Halifax v Man C on a pitch that would be deemed unplayable these days.
  21. I see a Torquay player has gone on loan to Livingstone. Livvy must have a fine scouting network to spot this player and get him on loan. Who's paying his travel fee, or given the distance, will he Walk 500 miles?
  22. Correct. Boxing Day 1978 we beat Coventry 5-0 and there was talk then City might finish high enough to qualify for the UEFA Cup (as was).
  23. That 76 - 81 strip is available from UK Soccer Shop (whoever they are). http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Bristol_City/Bristol_City.htm Historic al kits also have a shop at Malvern 07759 923657
  24. Fifty years ago, 1973-74, if you offered two tickets for the game v Leeds, we'd have bitten your arm off!
