  1. http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10298/liking-odds-bookies-giving optimism still flowing well.

6-1 for promotion www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/promotion4-1 for play offs www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/to-make-the-playoffs

sh** odds, would rather do Blackpool 33's Gary bowyer good manager and stupid odds

if we can bring in those 4 quality players then I'd like our chance a bit more. bit light atm.

Then came two voices of reason!

20/1 is a fair price but realistically are we THAT much stronger than last season right now if at all? The league is more competitive too. At the moment we will finish similar to last season I feel but these next few signings could push us on.

"if we can bring in those 4 quality players then I'd like our chance a bit more. bit light atm". - In our dreams. The clueless one seems to be struggling with recruitment.

  2. I assume FGR won yesterday's game as there is no "Official FGR v Bristol Rovers" thread. Instead one complaining about treatment of fans and another complaining about the catering.

However, gasp, shock, horror, the 2nd post on page 5 of the "Vegan Rovers" thread is a post calling for debate rather than abuse! http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10284/vegan-rovers-gas?page=5

First time I've been on here for a few days and it's just the same kind of School play ground crap that was on here last time.I used to use this forum because I could find out things about our club that I probably couldn't from the official club website and there were interesting debates that I felt I could get involved in but those days seem to be gone now.Shame. To have a proper debate you have to argue your case against opinions you don't agree with but there are many on here that simply hurl abuse at anyone with alternative opinions. All opinions however unpalatable should be heard and argued with or against to make the forum work properly in my view.

Is it me or is it generally more common place these days, cup shocks ain't what they used to be!

Correct. Just like in Athletics etc, the best can only get to be so good. All those below them gradually catch up. This leads to records rarely being broken and upsets no longer being upsets.

That's what happened last season, isn't it..?

I'm sure I remember hearing numerous times around last Christmas, that that's exactly what was going to happen.

Is it true about the gashead with his four way accumulator? Rovers promoted, City relegated, UWE being ready for the 2017-18 season & Barcelona playing the first game there.

Looking forward to 6666 days and 66 minutes - evil moment

If in August 2018 they were above City after the first game of the season, that's 386 days away, so worst case scenario, 6,486 is the minimum number of days they will be behind City.

  6. A voice of reason (Kingswood Polak) and then comes the put downs (Icegas and Harvey Specter);  http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10152/bigger-club-bristol-city?page=5 a thread about will they ever be bigger than City.

Regardless of who bankrolled, their infrastructure is a country mile ahead of ours. Their academy is already producing and their PR and media are so far ahead it would take us a number of years to just equal that. I've been going since 68 and, the 1982 debacle apart, they have always had bigger support and the sale of ST's alone puts us way in their looming shadow
    Just the facts mam

    Sorry,that's complete crap.
I would happily stay in the shadow if it meant we didn't lose our identity and become a plastic club with a plastic fanbase and ownership as they have.

  7. Not one, but two goalies for the gas. Just scroll through these two links to see the proof. :P

http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10151/signing-joe-lumley He's recently been on tour with QPR in Portugal, they return today. Therefore, I'm guessing there would have been talks with DC & his agent while he's been training? That's usually the case when a player's away..maybe now Joe's coming back to England, he could be in Bristol the coming days to sign that elusive contract...?

http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10150/trialist-confirmed "It's one week, and I will be offered a contract should I play well."
"My goalkeeper coach from my Nike Academy got in contact with Rovers." and what says it all; "I dont know much about the club, no players, staff, or history. I hope to learn everything very quickly."

  8. OK, which of you has been posting on there? http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10141/trust-wael

Its the best policy for genuine rovers fans.
Trust him to deliver the top 6 budget promised.
Trust him to develope the training ground.
Trust him to secure UWE if its in the best interests of the football club or start from scratch on an alternative project.
We will have a good idea of the playing budget by september 1st and the other projects in the reasonably near future so at the moment the only real option is trust.
The tweets of the peterbro chairman have given us all an incite into the difficulties of the transfer market and its such a short period until we know whats going to happen on these big issues in my view.
So it might be corny but im going down the trust in wael route and hope others feel the same?

Just looked on sagchat, Wow they are Bitter! the few half sensible posts drowned out by bile and vitriol.

There was one post starting "City fan here in peace" and some of their regulars were demanding the post removed as it's from a City fan.

  10. So the gas have friendlies against Yate and Melksham on the same day.

It becomes amusing when one of the blue few complains a non league team has a £7 million pound stadium and then another realises there's several non league teams with better grounds than the Mem.

    http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/9989/friendly-melksham

Then for a real laugh and delusion; http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/9974/bournemouth

So many similarities not least of all the managers style. Together anything is possible.

I just realised something watching this, it doesn't matter how much money you have in football, it is about the togetherness and that is what DC is achieving with us, team spirit, two promotions in two seasons, top ten finish, players proud to wear the shirt, good attacking football, playing for each other, a young up and coming manager with bright ideas. A proud football club. That is something they don't have over the dark side of Bristol and that's why they are so obsessed with us, it strikes me that they are envious and jealous of what DC is doing hereSo we have to believe that we can do the same as Bournemouth, get behind the lads, even when it's not going right and we can succeed, pass them and be better than them. Sorry to go off gas topic but WTF is going on in Bristol these days - a naked bike ride . What is that about?

The World Naked Bike Ride takes place every year in cities around the world. In Britain we have them in Brighton, London and Bristol. Cambridge stopped having them because plenty were prepared to ride, but no one wanted the bother of organising it.

The event is / was an anti fossil fuel event, but many participants these days do it for the fun / thrill  and aren't bothered with politics.

Thinking about it, Gary Johnson could have taken part when he threatened to bare his backside in a shop window if a certain player scored for City.

  12. http://www.efl.com/global/appendix1.aspx

1.4    Each Championship Club shall with effect from the start of Season 2012/13 (or with effect from the start of its fourth Season in the Championship if later) only admit spectators to seated accommodation, and there shall be no standing terraces. So IF the gas were to be promoted, they'd have to upgrade the Mem or move / ground share. Both options would cost them money.

7.1    Seats should be individual seats with tip up bottoms and include backrests. Alternatively, other than the Directors Box, the seats can be of the plastic moulded type complete with back rests or other types of seats provided they have back rests.

The nature of that result will be thoroughly investigated for sure......

Some of the games in the IPL make me wonder about betting syndicates. In the last week, one game I was watching the score was 127/2. I popped downstairs for a drink, came back to find the score was now 130/7! In another game the team which batted first scored at ten an over. The second side promptly scored at 12 an over to secure a comfortable win. Yesterday one team was 111/0 after 11.5 overs. Their first wicket then went down and it was 154 all out. In another game one side, bear in mind these are T20 games, was all out for 49. Their batting line up featured Dhoni, AP deVilliers and another top batsman. None of the three managed to break into double figures.

  14. Wow! I read to the end of that Wikipedia article. It describes how Goodnight Irene became their anthem.

The song which is synonymous with Rovers is "Goodnight, Irene", which was written by Lead Belly.Opinions differ as to how this came about but it is thought to have become popular in the 1950s when a version of the song was in the British charts—the line "sometimes I have a great notion to jump in the river and drown"—seemed to be particularly apt when Rovers lost as the Bristol Frome flows alongside the old Eastville ground.[

They were certainly nomadic in their early years; "During World War II, some friendly matches were played in Kingswood, and in their early history some games were played at Parson Street, Bedminster"

That was always a lie.  They were a southern league club when we finished second in first division of the football league and runners up of the FA cup.

Quite right sir! During City's first stint in Division One, they were two promotions away from City.    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Rovers_F.C

In 1899 Bristol Rovers joined the newly formed Southern League, where they remained until 1920.
