Having suffered years of failing to understand lots of what LJ said I’m now trying to come to terms with Manning speak.

Here’s my best effort at an interpretation / translation of recent LM comments.

LM I’m not on social media, so I genuinely don’t hear it but I’m not stupid, I get the industry, I signed up for it, right?” Manning said. “Unfortunately with football it’s changed where three/four games and it’s where the world is at, short-term and everything straight away.”

= Football is a results based business. Our poor recent results, understandably, are a cause for concern to everybody. I have now presided over 26 games as Head Coach of Bristol City and everybody including the fans rightly expect that our results and performances should have been better and there should be more evidence of progress.

LM "For me, of course I want to win. It hurts me. I don’t want to go home having losses but I don’t see the point of wasting energy getting down about it. I’ve had to scrap, I’ve had to fight, I’ve had to graft to get where I’m at and they’re the behaviours: treat people properly, that doesn’t change, come in, drive a standard every day, deliver the work we deliver.”

= Umm….I don’t like losing and whatever happens I will keep doing the same things, I believe it’s important to treat people properly. Genuinely hard to know what ‘they’re the behaviours’ ‘drive a standard every day’ and ‘deliver the work we deliver’ actually mean.

LM “I’m fortunate in that I’ve got a lot of good people around me, the staff have been great: Hoggy’s been terrific, Krausey, Brian, Pat, Ciss (Khalifa Cisse) - there are loads of good people who see the good work that’s happening every day and that’s the only way that you change it.”

= I work with good staff, things change when you constantly and consistently do good work.

LM “Am I emotionally fully all in? You only have to ask the people around here with the way we work and the hours we put in. My energy has to go into the players, they’re the most important people.”

= I can’t answer that question, please ask others. If it’s about hard work and long hours then we are OK.

The club are trying to quell discontent by asking the local media to run puff pieces, and it isn't working

What the club actually need to do is sit down with the fans let them air their grievances and not dismiss us out of hand,

The situation is solely the clubs making and all this bullshit is just driving a bigger and bigger wedge,

That crowd reaction and turnout on Sunday is in real danger of becoming the norm if they aren't careful and stop this slide soon,

But they won't because of the ego's involved, I've seen it outside of football in business, it happens all the time, double down on a failing strategy because the peasants are wrong, and then the business dies

@Monkeh is anything happening now with the Portishead line? Ive heard a new business case has to be approved.

Apologies for tagging you, but you seem to be involved in some way.

We are still working, nothing was ever going to happen until cp7 which starts in April, its one of the projects that hasn't been cut so I'm expecting it all to start soon

  3. For further context for those express/mail readers unemployment stands at 4.4%

Did you know we also pay benefits to people in employment, I guess those scorngers trying to make ends meat on minimum wage are lazy bustards too?

Or those people on 60k who can now get child benefits, they are lazy?

    **** sake

I’m not saying they’re not. Doesn’t mean you should get discounted season tickets. Just another dumbing down woke thing to say. For every person on benefits through no fault of their own , there’s 20 lazy bastards that can’t be bothered to work . Do you think they should get discounts ?

The biggest load of daily express inspired tory backed horseshit I've read,

Why would 20 people choose to be destitute,

Yes there will be some but 20 for everyone benefit claimants? Have a word with yourself you moron

Further up I proposed a loyalty discount increasing each year. That would be one measure.

The fairest way would probably be a discount for those on government benefits, but I’m not sure if that could realistically be implemented. It’s the only real way to identify those who need the help, although some might argue it’s not a reasonable threshold.

    Good suggestions and worth exploring,

There's always arguments for and against, but at least you've got a suggestion,

Thanks and I am being sincere not sarcastic

Missed a few things. I hope Liam turns it round but facts are facts and, actually, judging him on the facts because they are so poor at present SHOULD make it easier to confirm that he has made some positive changes in due course if and when he manages to do that.

My main concern this season is that he reverses the last point and gets a minimum of 6 points from Huddersfield, Blackburn and Rotherham. I'm sure that will trigger a particular poster but never mind.

I dont like manning as I don't think he's the right fit for the club, but I'd love him to turn it round because it means my club is performing,

That dire performance against Swansea, it could be a turning point, I doubt it but it could

Ah yes, the old “but interest rates were 15%” argument.

They were, but it was 15% on a much smaller sum relative to incomes. The table below shows the effective interest rate over the past few decades when taking that into consideration. What it means is that today’s interest rates are now a very similar financial burden on homeowners to that 15% peak. And that’s on top of the cost of living crisis.

I am not pretending for one second that all pensioners are rich. And indeed every generation faces its challenges. But nothing I have said “rewrites history”, and it remains undeniable that - overall - wealth distribution in the UK today is skewed towards older generations - which is why a broad-brush discount for OAPs is so outdated.

It's fine to say it's outdated but how do you introduce something that benefits people who need it,

I dont mind tearing a system down but you need ti offer something to replace it

So in summary, I think we are in an age where people like to rewrite history and if enough young people convince themselves that current pensioners had it so easy then it must be true, when that was actually far from the truth in most cases

Payback time will come when they themselves reach pension age and the next generation of young ‘uns are telling them that THEY had it so easy!!!

    True,

My dad doesn't earn anywhere near what I do and he's a pensioner,

Like with the youth, not all are lazy, like with the middle class, not all are tory voters and like with the old, not all have money to burn,

If it ain't broke don't fix it, if anything we should reinstate student prices

There are lots of very balanced comments on this subject. However, its a shame that quite a few people cant state an opinion without getting personal. Whatever your thoughts are about BT, LM or JL, they are just people trying to do their best. Just use facts and evidence to form a critique, dont get personal.

For what its worth, Ive been a fan for 40 years and weve mainly always been sh1t, lost to teams we should beat, and made crazy decisions about managers and coaches. We are probably in better shape now than we have been for most of that period but there is no doubt in my mind that we would have been in even better shape had we not sacked NP, and I wont ever forgive the people involved in that decision - I just dont think we need to be abusive to them either.

Good post, and I don't agree with the op, but people need to respect a well thought out post, and treat it as such

Not forgetting Tins played a key role in the signing of both Antione and Alex Scott, which consequently netted the club £30 million plus. Transfer income might not matter to the OTIB Taliban, but it puts him in significant credit with SL

Both were signed before he was academy manager, he was loan manager, he wasn't involved in signing players then

Communication really has been as bad as I can ever remember this season, bordering amateur and unprofessional at times.

For a management team that claim to be progressive and forward thinking they are clueless when it comes to getting the fans (life blood of this club) onboard with the plan.

Tinnion for all his positive points and service to the club is out of his depth even if LM proves to be a success, just doesn’t have the presence and expierence to direct our football club.

Communication fell apart the day Lisa knights forced beanhead out of his job

I don't care if I get shot down, that's fine, but I am sick of the negativity towards Tinnion.

I love the guy.  Pure and simple, he's a city legend and was in the team for my first four years as a fan and had a left peg I absolutely worshipped.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about his football legacy, I think it's cruel and unfair the way he's treated on here, quite often as a figure of fun and with his intelligence and communication skills being mocked and belittled, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

He's not our enemy, he's our ambassador, he's a man who's gave most of his working career to our club, even though being a Geordie and having no previous affinity to the club.

We know he's not the best fit for the job he currently has, but he had the ambition to go for it, the same as his stint as a manager, he wasn't up to speed, but he had the ambition and drive to go for it.  I respect and love that.

It's not his fault if he's not right for the job, it's up the people above him if they feel he should be replaced.

Personally, I want him in charge of the academy, that's his best fit and hopefully he will be back there sometime in the future - back within his comfort zone.

But in the meantime, he will definitely be giving everything to the club and deserves much more respect and our support.

You don't have to love Pearson and hate Brian, you can appreciate them both!

And even though I don't agree with Manning being our gaffer, I can see the reasons why he was recruited.

I dont agree he's brought it on himself,

But I won't shoot you down for your opinion and what is a very good post
