  1. Had to happen on today of all days…?
  2. Jesus man, calm down. All he asked is (in effect) whether this was legit or something you’ve mocked up. He hasn’t said he likes it or dislikes it and you’ve reacted like he’s come round your gaff, shat on your carpet and screwed your missus. I dread to think what happens if he expresses slight dissatisfaction with the design, but I’d probably be advising him to hire protection based on the last reaction!
  3. Can. Of. Worms. Firstly, it’s widely acknowledged that the “boomer” generation were the ones who benefitted the most from things like house price growth - notwithstanding the interest rates. Retirement/State pension age has also increased, and there is a real argument that those born post war got a far better long term deal than generations that came since. It won’t apply to everyone, but as a demographic, boomers benefitted far more than gen X or Z. However, I still wouldn’t equalise prices - because I do think, even with advantages, we still need to subsidise and look after the elderly for the whole, which includes some who have no pension to speak of. (and, cynically, equalising now penalises post boomers as opposed to those with the advantage). However, the logic of having to equalise minors prices is, frankly, bollocks. If I took my two along it would cost me £1650 if prices were equalised. Never happening, you lose the kids as fans and the club dies. OAP tickets are one ticket, not funding others, paid from a persons own income stream. Kids tickets aren’t. I don’t back OAP tickets being the same price as standard adults, but your “rant” is sorely misguided.
  4. It’s not really debatable. You’re quoting players wages who we want rid of as they’re above where we want to pay, and transfers that were made when Ashton was spending like a sailor on shore leave. Not aimed at you, but I’m not sure people understand the game has changed. £2m represents £6m over a 3 year cycle. From an FFP loss allowable perspective, that £6m not coming in would mean we’d have about 15% less wriggle room, in a period when we know it’s going to be tight. I’d argue that the loss of the figures quoted would be the difference between a possible and actual breach of ffp - so no, it’s not debatable that it’s a lot to us currently.
  5. No, it won’t, but there are comments on here comparing our cost to Bayern and Real Madrid….and to get there would mean we’d have to markedly reduce which was never going to happen. Would I like us to get to the Hoeness quote of £104? Yes, absolutely. But unlike Bayern, £2m is a lot to us… I was expecting static in view of the economic position. An increase of 75p a game is in the same ballpark there - my point is that it’s fine to moan about the cost, but this renewal hasn’t really moved that dial in any way shape or form. And in terms of FFP, it’d be hard to argue in any appeal that we had special circumstances if we’d put prices down at all….
  6. Clayton Fortunes boy plays for Mangos juniors. Clayton was reffing a game last season against my team and turned a blind eye to the most blatant of handballs by one of the Mangos team. He professed not to have seen it. I’m not in any way bitter over this.
  7. That’s what I said! There are, and I mean this in the nicest way, some bloody daft comments on here. The price rise won’t stop those who were renewing anyway doing so, and anyone expecting a marked reduction just isn’t paying attention. We’re failing FFP. Money from season tickets helps that situation. We may want lower paid players, but that scenario can’t occur until contracts work out. My question for anyone bemoaning the cost is “What did you expect, and what would it have taken for you to renew?”
  8. I’ll be renewing, but probably would have come what may, as I’m lucky enough for it to be something I can afford and adds real value as a family for myself and the kids. However, I totally respect anyone who chooses not to renew in view of the current economic circumstances. I’d imagine the club have made the calculation that those who feel in view of the economy have to sacrifice a ST would do so in any event. I don’t think the increase is unreasonable (for me and the two kids, it’s £16 extra), and the club have probably come to a view that the modest increase won’t turn renewals off. Bottom line - if you were going to not renew due to the economy, you likely wouldn’t renew even if we’d dropped 2%. If you weren’t going to renew due to the entertainment, you weren’t renewing whatever. If you intended to renew, the increase is small enough it won’t move that dial.
  9. Looking at Buck, he appears to have had a few games for Bath in 2018: https://uk.soccerway.com/players/oaklan-buck/526618/ There’s a Jeremy Newton who used to manage Swindon’s academy: https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/15906762.swindon-towns-academy-manager-removed-post-internal-investigation/ The term “legend” is thrown around too often these days, but I tell you, I’d dine out on sharing a pitch with a man who played for Bath for a small amount of time 5 years ago and probably has to wear a name badge so his own family know who he is
  10. As we know, it’s now common on Twitter to use the abbreviation for each team during a game. So, on Saturday, we should see the hashtag #BOUBRC. This can go slightly wrong. If Brentford played Stenhousmuir, the hashtag #BRESTS could arise. It can, however, go horrifically wrong. Nigeria and Ghana are playing today. And the hashtag compilers really haven’t thought it through…
  11. There’s a lot to unpack in the statement, but my reading is that Staines are accusing Downing not have having carried out Murder and Child Labour, but that the companies they have invested in have carried out those activities (amongst others). The Fraud accusation, in the context of the statement, looks a bit flimsy (basically they say they act ethically but don’t). It’d be difficult to say that Downing have influence over the companies they invest in (unless they own over x%), but what it does do is put them foul, if true, over Compliance and Due Diligence requirements for a regulated firm. Once you cut through all the rest, that’s where I think we are - with Staines using their tip-off over Russian funds to leverage the position as they want the grounds freehold back. At least, that’s my first reading…

  13. I don’t go for this wild speculation you reference. IMO we should wait it’s on the academies official site before commenting.
  14. I’m coming up to a renewal and having serious thoughts after having been with Sky for a similar time. To me, the one that’s totally on the table is the movies. You just have to look at the Oscars - films on Disney+, Apple, Netflix are the big winners. All the big budget Pixar/Marvel stuff hits Disney first and there just isn’t the value there for “must see” films. The big thing here is that it costs Sky nothing to have you as a subscriber, so they need to realise 100% of £70 is worth more than 0% of £140. The other thing I think they need to take notice of is the recent change in insurance regulation where you can’t charge a renewal more than a new customer. Sky are renowned for that and there is absolute readacross here to their pay TV model. If Dorries has a scintilla of intelligence (she doesn’t) it’s a wholly sensible thing for DCMS to go after.
  15. Can people stop saying Notts County!!! A quick look for County shows they’ve played AFC Wimbledon twice and not chalked up a win, so nope.
  16. As the right answers already been given a few times now, just to confirm: The question now becomes have they beaten Stockport and whoever else comes up, or will this just be a two month valid stat..
  17. I think, in hindsight, it might have been a level too high for him - but I get the logic that at 22 it was a bit sink or swim. He’d done well at Torquay, and IIRC he was lined up to go to Doncaster but got injured. Post that injury, he probably would have been best served going for a L2 loan for his overall career, but that wouldn’t have answered the question we needed the answer to (and I think he was up for a L1 loan as stated pre the injury). Difficult one as lots of circumstances conspired against him to get where we are, but agree, likely summer exit
  18. As the question is that “one English league club have beaten all of the other 91”, the question rules out Notts as they’re non-league.
  19. No correct answers so far but some thinking on the right lines…
  20. As seen on Twitter earlier, only one English league club have beaten all of the other current 91 competitively. Without cheating and looking, who?
  21. Oceans Eleven point deduction?
  22. **** me. I would reciprocate and nip down the Memorial in my City shirt, but I fear the resulting photo may be confused with the aid appeal for Ukraine when people see the post-apocalyptic backdrop.
  23. Oh for gods sake. Last year, Famara put an egg timer on his social media and this place was flooded with people saying “it means a new contract”. In fact, it meant he was as much worth as chickenshit from the moment he posted it to the moment he left and he was counting down the hours until he left and secured big bucks elsewhere. Moral of the story: Don’t even try and guess, as it likely means nothing. If it does end up being something, take it as a pleasant surprise
