  1. You realise what you’ve done, don’t you? You’ve started your son on a lifetime of raised hopes, only to be dashed by crushing disappointment, following City.
  2. Millwall only missed out on the playoffs last season because the threw away a 3-1 lead on the last match. An away win there is an excellent performance. City never looked in danger
  3. Have you heard it’s in the stars? Next July we collide with Mars
  4. I imagine it would be a bit like “John Otway The Movie”. If you haven’t watched it, you should. It’s on Netflix
  5. Ivor, you’ve suffered more than most of us but you still keep supporting City. This must mean something and, whatever it is, I’m sure it’s the same for all City supporters. Far better than the modern trend of just buying a shirt of whatever team is doing well in the Premier League and “supporting “ them
  6. In the modern football world clubs like City have not choice but to sell good players. Financial considerations are one thing but gone are the days when a club can keep hold of a player who wants to move. Although Scott did not submit a transfer request, he’s refused a new contract. Moving to Bournemouth with increase his salary to a level far beyond anything City can pay, so why would he stay? Another factor is how the club attracts young players. The current policy enables them to get into the first team at an early age and the club makes it clear that if a Premier League club makes an acceptable offer it won’t block a move. If there was a policy of holding onto young players who could earn far more in the Premier League, then the incentive to join City would be less.
  7. Pearson is a realist. Scott has the ability to play in the Premier League and he wants to play there. It’s unlikely City will get there any time soon, Scott will get a big pay rise and City need the money to stabilise the club after the previous crazy spending. Pearson knew this was going to happen and, after being a manager for so long, he can’t possibly be surprised that Scott has gone. He may seem a bit grumpy but that’s his natural demeanour
  8. If you’re going to wear a tie you should go the whole way - double breasted suit and bouffant hair. Which town?
  9. Remember, the transfer window doesn’t close, it slams shut!
  10. Mods - could we have a permanent thread entitled “City Website and Phone Problems”? The issues never go away
  11. I’ve followed all the tips given above (thanks) and then the pass showed the Birmingham match, but it was in the expired passes section for some reason. Then after selecting the “unhide” option it moved back to being a live pass. This is fascinating but there must be better ways of spending my time
  12. If the season started at the beginning of September it would finish at the beginning of June, with the Championship play off final at the end of June. This isn’t really appropriate for what is a winter game. I don’t think playing more midweek matches to ensure the same end date is practical as we now have international breaks to fit in. Throw in a good cup run and postponements for some teams and it would be a nightmare. Looking at it from another perspective, it’s only people with school age children who are forced to have holidays in August. There are many supporters who don’t have young children and they avoid holidays in August
  13. Back in the days of yore, when people paid cash on the turnstiles, there was a very good reason why some clubs were reluctant to publish accurate attendance figures. Tax paid is direct related to income received, so the lower the attendance the lower the tax etc. Of course, I’m not for one moment suggesting an honourable club such as City would have deliberately published artificially low attendances
  14. Based on his post match press conferences, he could make a good career as a Stanley Unwin tribute act (one for the oldies)
  15. On yesterday’s showing just about anybody could replace any of City’s midfield players. It was a lacklustre performance, defensively and attacking. That said, I’m still optimistic for the season, as per every season
  16. So, you’re happy for City to finish anywhere from first to twenty first in the league. You should put a bet on this as, I think, you’d have a good chance of winning
  17. A friend of mine didn’t want a digital card so he asked for a plastic one. As it hadn’t arrived by today he rang the club and, after a lot of effort, was emailed a ticket to print at home. The reason for no plastic card was the demand was greater than expected and they’d run out of plastic! Ran out of plastic - that’s a Rovers fiasco
  18. I had a look at the planning application site. It seems as though there has been a campaign by Rovers fans to bombard the council with letters of support. Unfortunately, most of them have missed the point - i.e. you've got to comment on planning grounds. Most of the letters of support just say it will be a good thing for Bristol Rovers, which is totally irrelevant for a planning application
  19. So, it’s a stand with a few bits of metal that can be bolted together, in no time at all, and just plonked on the ground. A few weeks ago they were comparing it to the Atyeo stand! The Atyeo, which is a proper stand, took months to build. It’s neatly 30 years old but obviously futuristic compared to the Rovers latest effort
