  1. It’s impossible to answer the question in a logical way as there is nothing logical in the purchasing of football clubs. The majority of clubs down the leagues lose money so the majority of owners lose money. The only thing that varies is the about of money. So why buy a club - vanity, insanity, dodgy owners from abroad with obscure source of funds? Obviously reaching the Premier League brings in big money but there’s no guarantee of getting there or staying there. Lower down the leagues there are a few well run clubs that live within their means but the chances of success for them is limited. Being specific about City / Bristol sport, there’s no logical reason to buy the club

    Mbude.

It was only a few minutes on the pitch but he showed good ball control. There’s no need to get carried away by such a brief appearance but he did all that was expected.
  3. The entire City squad for that game have names from a bygone era. That’s probably because it is a bygone era. It’s interesting with the choice midfield & attacking players but a bit thin with defenders
  4. So, based on how City play in these circumstances, City to lose by 2 goals
  5. What, Tinnion should be starting? I’m all for experience, but…….
  6. That’s an excellent crowd under the circumstances. “Art’s Widest Momment; Mannerism”, narrated by Waldermar Januszczak was on Sky Arts at the same time. It’s obvious that the thousands of more cultured Rovers fans decided to stay in to watch it instead of going out in the rain
  7. It’s obvious John Atyeo’s left hip joint
  8. Unfortunate we’ve got Steve Lansdown, Jon Lansdown and Brian Tinnion. They’re not a trio to admit they were wrong so unless there is an unbelievable set of poor results for the rest of the season I’m sure Manning will survive. That said, City are currently 23rd in the form table with 3 points from 6 games. If that continues then I might be wrong about Manning’s survival
  9. To do that effectively you need players who are good at accurately crossing the ball and players who can bear tall defenders. City’s crosses usually get cut out by the first defender and the only person who looks likely to win a header is Dickie. Unfortunately he can’t play in defence and attack at the same time
  10. That was the most one-sided 1-0 I’ve seen for years. But for Max and casual Leeds finishing it would have been a massacre. Too many City players with no strength or pace and, tonight, passing to someone in a red shirt was next to impossible
  11. Ipswich 37 goal attempt - Maidstone 2! What a match
  12. Very true, but the same applies to a lot of mid table teams.
  13. I don’t agree with your assessment of Pring as I think he could easily play in the Premier League. However, I do agree with the bit I’ve marked in bold. There was the exception of the Hull home and Watford away matches but otherwise it’s at best one goal per match and often none - e.g. in the last 4 league games City have managed to score 1 goal
  14. It’s a little known fact that Robin Hood often wore spectacles bought from Spec Savers. In later life he wore contact lenses that were coloured to make his eyes look green
  15. Orange of course. Although robins are often called redbreast the colour is actually orange. Orange, as a colour, was unknown in English until the Middle Ages. Until then orange was just regarded as a shade of red
  16. This seems strange: ”Nottingham Forest’s iconic nickname, “The Reds,” is linked to the legendary folk hero, Robin Hood.” Robin Hood was traditionally shown dressed in Lincoln Green.
  17. That’s the standard of replies seen on the Rovers forum. You should try to be more respectful as Miah can’t help being a Rovers supporter. Remember the proverb - Manners Maketh Man
  18. I remember the “Matt Smith is awful” thread after his first game. Admittedly he was a bit rusty but it soon changed for the better
  19. We could have celebrated something more memorable - e.g. City’s first set of floodlights from 70 years ago. They were unique as each one could be lowered to the ground to change the bulb! You don’t get that with these new fangled lights. Harry Dolman had them manufactured by his company, so Marina could have come onto the pitch with a lightbulb and some fuses
  20. A good exciting match = a good atmosphere. When it’s flat, as per yesterday, it’s got nothing to do with the ground or whether people are standing or sitting. For most parts of the match yesterday it wasn’t particularly exciting so it’s no surprise the atmosphere was what it was.
  21. I know that Rovers are a bit toxic but I didn’t realise that the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority was involved
  22. I’m prepared to bet that the shirt will be predominantly red and the shorts white. I don’t understand what there is to get excited about as, in reality, there’s little variation year on year. It’s just a case of East St. Louis Toodle-Oo
  23. The was an Apple Wassailing ceremony in one of the allotments in Bishopston today. This obviously had a big detrimental affect on the Rovers attendance
  24. It (standing at the back or front of the South Stand) was included in some preliminary sketches of the stand. However, this had been dropped by the time the stand was built and supporters bought their tickets. If the back few rows were converted to standing any supporter sitting there who didn’t want to stand would be entitled to most Buying the houses behind the Atyeo - no.
  25. With the configuration of the stands, concourses, entrances, visibility problems for sitting supporters etc at Ashton Gate not much, if anything, is going to happen. A rebuilt Atyeo, after the purchase of the houses behind, would work but that’s not going to happen any time soon, if at all
