  1. Park of the job package is: ”Discount in the Bristol Sport store” As there is never any stock this is a big benefit
  2. My first pair cost £4 19s 11d. A bargain! I can remember the convoluted way you had to tie the laces on the old football boots. Underneath then round the back then a few more bits
  3. This is what we don’t get anymore - orange footballs in the snow and players tap dancing around like Bamby on ice. Those were the days
  4. Newcastle in the first Premier League home match of next season
  5. This was the most exciting part of the game https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/13040493/brawl-breaks-out-at-bristol-as-tensions-boil-over
  6. The one bit of excitement https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/13040493/brawl-breaks-out-at-bristol-as-tensions-boil-over
  7. That’s a key point. The subs didn’t change the game plan. It was the same formation and tactics with just different players. If the starting plan was obviously not working for over an hour, why stick with it? The only slight change was when Cornick came on. This was only because Sykes was injured, and there was no other option, so he ran around a bit
  8. I’ve watched a lot of awful games and they have tended to become a blur. They often have a common theme - a freezing cold winter night with sparse crowd. Nowadays, with a 20k crowd, you are protected from the howling winds. In the League Division 4 days and crowds of 8k it could be very cold. When I took my young son (child cruelty?) I always had to sit up wind from him to act as a wind break
  9. I agree with most of what you said except for the big I’ve highlighted. The only real bit of excitement was when Williams had a punch up with a Millwall player in front of Area 51. Both could easily have received a red card
  10. In any sport the old adage “play to your strengths” is the best advice. The big question is, what are City’s strengths? Definitely not the style of play we saw today, but the basic fact is the City squad is not good enough for a top 6 finish. Too many bargain basement signings.
  11. I see it as cushy for one simple reason - as long as SL / JL are in charge it’s highly unlikely he get the sack. If things go wrong there will just be a reorganisation and he’ll be given another job
  12. The bit I’ve highlighted sums it up. A cushy number and unlikely to be sacked
  13. In a well run organisation, football or otherwise, you don’t promote someone to a higher grade difficult job because they are a legend. You give the job to someone who has the skills and knowledge to do it. Sometimes it might be a development opportunity for someone who is capable of quickly making the step up, but that’s not Tinnion. If he needs a couple of years to get up to speed he should do it at another club, not City who are supposedly a potential Premier League tesm
  14. The USSR used to be good at this. If anyone fell out with Stalin he simply disappeared from History
  15. Well done again @Jerseybean . You mentioned that in 1974 Millwall played the first ever league game on a Sunday. In this match ex Bristol City player Brian Clark became the first player ever in the Football League to score a goal on a Sunday. Not a lot of people know that. I can remember Brian Clark from the 60s when he formed a deadly partnership with John Atyeo and Shadow Williams
  16. We may not agree on this but I respect your opinions as you’re one of the sensible, informed posters on the forum Selling timeshares in Spain?
  17. Even if all the Fleetwood fans are singing his praises, which I can’t imagine to be true, it’s significant that his reputation at the last two “big” clubs he managed is still negative.
  18. Some comments from fans aren’t complementary: “Just give up mate. You're not meant to be a manager." “How do you get sacked twice in the same season before the new year? Please, ffs, no one ever give him a job again. Worst manager in the world."
  19. The modern equivalent is players wearing pink boots, though I’m sure they do it for totally different reasons than Herbert Chapman cunning plan
  20. Teams play in their away kit on a regular basis when there is no colour clash. It’s due to one thing - money. Clubs want to sell as many away shirts as possible and the more they are worn the more they sell
  21. I said earlier in the thread that everything about Birmingham is dull and drab. The first 45 minutes confirms this. It just needs City to create and take a chance to put some pressure on Birmingham. If they go one down the natives might become restless.
  22. There is something about Birmingham that’s just dull and drab. The City, the ground and the teams over the years just been awful. Now there’s Rooney to throw into the mix and he’s dull, as a manager, as well. I find it very difficult to look forward to a Birmingham match with any enthusiasm. This time it could be different because of City’s recent wins but I don’t want to be too positive as that would be tempting fate.
  23. What have you got against Clifton St Vincent?
  24. In theory Torquay should be challenging Yeovil at the top of the league but they have a lot of injuries. This post from their forum yesterday: “This is an interesting subject and to put some flesh on the bones I have looked at the season to date. Excluding Dawson who has yet to play I looked at 7 players who if fit would start with 1 possible exception. Asa Hall. Club Captain. Has played only 6 League games out of 23. Sub 2 Games. Tom Lapslie. 11 games in the League but injured on 5 Dec via Weymouth in 27th minute. Aaron Jarvis. 13 games but injured in 95 min at WSM on 24th October. Knee injury likely out for 3 months. Finlay Craske. 11 games 3 of which were as a sub. Injured at H & R 28th October. Jack Stobbs 20 games until appeared to pull a hamstring via Weymouth on 5th December. Brad Ash. 21 games but sustained a stress fracture via Weymouth on 5 December. Will Jenkins Davies. Ever present 11 games until injured at Hemel Hempstead on 23rd Sept. Recently returned to fitness. In the circumstances I think we have done well to be in 3rd place at Christmas.”
  25. John Otway regularly plays (if you can call it playing) at the Thunderbolt on the Bath Road and he’s great. Admittedly it’s an acquired taste. Cor baby that’s really free!
